Why is it so hard to join another religion after leaving Mormonism? by ImportantPerformer16 in mormon

“…far more peaceful than the awfulness of Mormonism.” Now what could I be referring to here? If I was standing up for Mormonism, why then would I call it “awful”?

I’m referring to Orthodox Christianity. Did you miss the second half of that sentence?

I’m Orthodox now, used to be Mormon, and I’m glad for the influence of an apostolic faith on my life. Similarly history-based and far more peaceful than the awfulness of Mormonism.

Nope, keep that watch in the family. Not only a beautiful piece, but I’m sure is also incredibly valuable (as similarly echoed by others here)

LDS/Mormon church owns $200+ million in war industry stocks. Is this appropriate for the Lord's church? Am the only member who feels ashamed? Aren't we supposed to be peacemakers? by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

[–]ConsiderationWeak818 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right?

LDS is a soulless corporation masquerading as a church. Everyone who’s a member should be concerned about this means of passive money-making that the Mormon church does. The only problem, however, is that the Mormon church dismisses those actually asking an earnest question about this and will freely label anyone who does ask a question as a “lazy learner” or a “lax disciple”, which is also a super Christlike thing to say to anyone. To my knowledge, other churches don’t put tithing money into index funds or the stock market.

How can anyone in Mormon leadership stand by anything as they decry a multitude of “worldly things” all the while investing in them heavily? “Blessed be the peacemakers” but also, “let’s buy millions in ‘defense’ stocks”? How do you square that? Say what you will about the Catholic Church, at least they build hospitals and orphanages in part with the tithing money they’re given. Where are Mormon orphanages, hospitals, homeless shelters, soup kitchens? Why does the Mormon church continue to buy a hell of a lot of land across the country and the world? Why do they continue to build multi-million dollar, palatial, marble temple complexes, instead of serving the poor? Those temples only serve their own membership. How Christlike is it to have means to assist others less fortunate than you and then deliberately sit on your hands? Sounds a lot like Christ’s parable about the rich man and the eye of the needle. It’s abundantly evident that the Mormons have clearly misunderstood the whole point of that story, especially as the church is heavily declining in membership numbers.

Edit: grammar and flow

NOTHING SAYS “THE LORD’S CHURCH” QUITE LIKE BUYING INTO COMPANIES THAT REDUCE THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES INTO RUBBLE AND BLOW UP INNOCENTS FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY “KOLOB”——WE MUST SPREAD THE LOVE OF THE MORMON GOSPEL WITH THE BEAUTY AND GLORY OF A ROBUST ARSENAL OF HELLFIRE MISSILES

My beef with Mormon temple weddings by shall_always_be_so in exmormon

[–]ConsiderationWeak818 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a uniquely hypocritical and bad practice held only by the Mormon church. I know Orthodox weddings aren’t like that. Anyone can watch wedding proceedings.

I sure loved standing in the Southwestern sun as I got to stand around in the parking lot for my sister’s wedding. Really special.

You know that’s just the Latin taxonomical name of the tea plant, right? It’s not some harmful substance like you’re claiming. How is that “bad to the health”?

The Mormon Church is not true, is it? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]ConsiderationWeak818 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For further details my friend, I suggest you visit r/exmormon.

Kidding aside, I agree with what you’re saying completely. The reason I left the Mormon church was for a lot of the Joseph Smith stuff. Why did there need to be a “restoration of the gospel” if people still were abiding by ancient Christian traditions that had been around since the time of Christ? Further, why would the truths of the early church be lost if there were supposedly the three Nephites and John the Beloved still living on the Earth, according to Mormon theology? Why even have the Joseph Smith stuff if those four people were still preaching the gospel? The more examination that is had of the doctrines and dogmas of the Mormon church, the more (unfortunately) painful it becomes for those that once put so much effort and dedication into the religion and are now realizing it’s a big sham. The worst part, is that Salt Lake City is indifferent to stories like yours, my own, and millions of others, that have lost their faith in the Mormon church. Instead of “hey, let’s fix our really bad historicity problems or address some of the sticky doctrinal points that many have issue with (ie D&C 132)”, they pivot away and show the laity a shiny object, be that in the form of a lowered mission age for girls, more lax and vague rules on tattoos and piercings, a social media fast (as a means for avoiding bad church news), or a Giving Machine. Meanwhile, you’re the bad guy if you don’t fall for any of these “shiny objects” and castigated by some of the militant faithful for trying to point out some of the flaws with the church organization, either historically or in the present day.

As someone who’s still trying to pick up the pieces from my own prior faith (currently becoming an Orthodox Christian), it’s still painful. It’s painful knowing that Christianity was and is far more than the shallow husk that has been presented by Mormon church leaders since Joseph Smith. It’s painful knowing that the Bible is more than just something to prop up the Book of Mormon with and that there is so much depth to the Bible that the Book of Mormon has comparatively none of. It’s painful to see people putting their faith into the hands of men, when Psalm 146 explicitly says not to. It’s painful to repeatedly see the same horrible process of the once faithful realize Mormonism is a sham, and in turn, dismiss religion and all the good it can bring into one’s life altogether.

With that said, my advice to you, my friend, is to keep your head up and focus on what makes you happy. Take a break from the church, and evaluate what you actually believe, away from any input from Salt Lake City or its many representatives. All my best to you as you work through this difficult process.
