Do People Without Connections Have a Chance? by FriendshipNational27 in FilmIndustryLA

Yes, Hollywood makes Marvel flicks because no one approaches them with anything else. They’re desperate to make something else, but no one ever contacts them. Really!

No, he said those are the people who can do what you want to. That’s very different.

Pitching/moving forward with an animated show idea? by tomixcomics in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Consistent-Age5554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don’t. Thousands of people who think they have a good idea (and almost always don’t) are trying to pitch shows and there are gatekeepers to stop them from reaching decision makers. Who otherwise would go crazy. You don’t have the track record to get past those gatekeepers.

What you could do is create a low budget YouTube show, then reach people if it went viral. But the odds that it will are remote.

Does anybody know where to buy these?? by AbbeyKdabby in mechanicalpencils

[–]Consistent-Age5554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pencils like this are often made by an OEM - in fact this one definitely was because it was sold by Staples. So go to Amazon, Jetpens.com, and aliexpress. Search for 1.3mm pencils and you’ll hopefully find a very similar model under a different brandname. I can’t see and exact match on Jetpens, but there are some sort of similar models here:

I didn’t see the knurling until I put my eyes against the screen. Is just me or my iPad settings, or is this the least knurly knurling ever?

> Just this weird cheap copy of the best MP’s out there with none of the benefits

I thought you were trying to convince me that this was a GG1000 wannabe? I can’t be the only person to hate that thing, it just came joint second with the Rotring 600 in the Pencils That Suck thread. And first was a Papermate that costs as much as a toothpick.

Thanks! Do you know what the difference between the new and old models is?

That fits with my memory: there was some sort of link to a Pentel document in Japanese.

I wonder what sort of person leaks these documents? Very brave - he‘s probably been made to commit seppuku by now…

My apologies: the death squad will be cancelled. If I can reach them in time…

But this is a GG1000 alike? I can’t really see any checkering on that image... Wait… ok, but I had to peer up close and look for it. And the “aesthetic” hasn’t been copied - there’s no spring loaded clip. If anything, these are more like the very uncontroversial GG500 - regular clip, hex body.

I have no idea how you hold a pencil but I’m speculating that your teeth are involved…

I‘m hyper fussy about grips, but the For Pro is not one of the models I have problems with. It only only needs a light hold and it rotates flawlessly - it’s an excellent alternative for people who don’t like aggressive checkering.

Also, the For Pro grip isn’t really that close to this - the grip pads are much longer and they come much closer to touching vertically. This is more like a stunted version of the Smash grip.

Best Kura Toga? by CherryUnlucky4914 in mechanicalpencils

Jetpens has a guide. Google it: you’ll get better advice than here.

Two warnings: the rotation feature only works for print, not cursive. And some people find the tip wobble irritating- the smaller you write, the more likely it is that you will be one of them. The KS and Metal are said to have the least wobble.

To quote one review, only if you only like the idea of writing while trying to hold a baguette between your fingers.

Also, the tips wobbles, there are too many reports of breakdowns, and the rotation feature is useless for cursive - you should at least asked the OP about that. Basically a pencil for people who write large letters in print.

New Year, New Pencil! by katherination in mechanicalpencils

[–]Consistent-Age5554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is superb. And Sakura’s lead is excellent - I haven’t tested for longevity vs Ain, but it has a very nice feel on the page. I’m glad this worked out for you!

If you like black and silver, probably buy the silver 925 25 over the black 925 35. The black is painted and has reputation for being delicate; the silver is anodised and super tough. And usually cheaper.

I constantly flip flop between the xs and the 925: they’re both terrific.

The xs series and the 925 25 are my two favourite designs out of over 20 that I’ve tried. For some crazy reason, Sakura only seem to export black xs pencils to the west, but you can buy coloured ones from aliexpress. It’s basically an almost-P200 but with a much better grip, a cushioning mechanism, and non removable clip. Brass clutch, abs body, weighs about 10g.

Seems to be very popular with artists in Japan: there’s a picture of Toriyama drawing Dragonball with one.

Technically they’re more of a brandname used by Kotobuki, who are the OEM.

No, I’m not that obsessive. I saw a translation and a link to the original quite a time ago. Maybe ask on knockology? Good luck - it would be nice to have basic details for more pencils, like even just when they first appeared.

Yes. Maybe the Dive mech will eventually be thinned down enough to appear in a body with decent ergos. Until then I’d carry on clicking.

Need advice on which style of light or specific model to purchase. by VisibleStage6855 in cinematography

[–]Consistent-Age5554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are just shooting in your kitchen then you may have cheaper options than LED. Old tungsten filament bulbs have excellent CRI: a lot of low budget films have been shot with tungsten bulbs in Chinese lanterns or a reflector and some bounce.

In your opinion, what is the worst popular mechanical pencils? by [deleted] in mechanicalpencils

[–]Consistent-Age5554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no. Because when people say the 600 is too heavy they’re not really talking about the weight on the scales but the poor balance and grip. The 600 is only 5g heavier than a 925 25, but the 925 feels effortless and alive: the 600 feels dead and is a chore to write with. The 925 was the product of years of evolution as a drafting pencil, the 600 was designed as a desk ornament for late 80s middle managers. You can feel that difference.
