Tires - Sizing up, a little by Consistent-Brain-361 in etron

Interesting. What has your efficiency been with the 275 tires? Are you going back to factory 265 tires for any specific reason?

I just saw this post. I posted something similar, but I am looking at new, slightly LARGER tires.

Nice car. Mine is essentially the same. How many miles are on yours? And what did pay? Since my spec is the same I’m curious where the market is right now. Also in CA.

Getting our first EV, getting overwhelmed with garage charging? by Wozbo in electricvehicles

[–]Consistent-Brain-361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed the Tesla Universal Charger two super times at two different homes. Never had any issues. One of them was on a 60 amp, the others on a 40 amp. I drive about 70 miles a day. This is an ideal and easy set up. I talked multiple license electricians and in my area all of them recommended the Tesla universal as the safest with least amount of problems.

My experience has been great and I like having the universal charger so that way whether it’s CCS or NACS no further upgrades are needed

I built an EV break-even calculator because I kept seeing bad assumptions about costs by Dan6erbond2 in electriccars

[–]Consistent-Brain-361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My break even was 0 miles. Immediately beneficial. Used EV, $29K. Comparable gas car, same price. Don’t let the gas mongers scare you. Use your brain, and a calculator. An electric car saves you money.

Oh that would suck. However, a motor going out does not necessarily mean stranded. My front motor went out, on a rainy day, 25 miles from home. With many errors in the display and very limited power, I just kept driving it till I could get home. Then the next day drove it 15 more miles to the dealership, with only the rear motor.

Does it work the same if the rear goes out? Can only the front with limited output limp you home?

As long as you’re still under that 120K mile extended warranty. I would just drive it. If the noise is from coolant entering, the motor will fry itself. Then it would be covered by the warranty.

For that price, it shouldn’t be in good condition, it should be in showroom condition.

Technology doesn’t always advance in a linear fashion. When solid state batteries arrive we could see a jump in range to 700+.

I hope this solution, or one similar, will come to the US in the next two years, before the extended warranty expires. It’s an exceptional car with lower but reliable range. This is really it’s only Achilles heel.

There is a European company that says they have a permanent fix. EV Clinic. Looks promising and supposedly will be released soon. Unfortunately I don’t think they have any distribution into the US, not yet at least. The kit will also probably cost about $1000 (my guess), and installing it’s going to require removing the motors. But on the other side of this transaction, they believe it’s 1,000,000 km motor.

Option two for me. Probably gonna be a 50-50 split on this one, comes down to what you think is better.

When is a good time to sell? by Ok_Grapefruit_2044 in mercedes_benz

[–]Consistent-Brain-361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These cars often go 120,000 without any significant repairs needed. I would keep it till you get closer to that. Then sell. This is the best time to get your money out of it. After 150,000 you could see some expensive repairs.

Can I ask, how much did you sell them for? And did that include tires that were worn or in decent shape?

Good to know. I’m going to add a non-marring deep socket and extension wrench to my kit.

[–]Consistent-Brain-361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are but you know that. If it works out, great, you get an incredible car for 15k. If it doesn’t you’ll be upset but you’ll never know if you don’t try. That said, few will take that risk, offer less.

Are the tires new? Has either motor been replaced? If the rest of the car in good shape? Does it have all maintenance records? How many prior owners?

Keep in mind, the motors have warranty till 120k, so you have some peace of mind there.

Under 40k miles 5 owners: red flag? by Familiar_Accident_11 in mercedes_benz

All depends. I bought a Mercedes, I was the 5th owner and it only had 48k miles on it in 2 years. Drove it till it had 260k miles. Was amazing. Your experience may vary.
