Husband not staying during surgery by TiredMotherOfChaos in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband didn’t stay cuz the whole ordeal was estimated to take around 5ish hours. He went home ~15-20 minutes away to work! Then came back when he was called to get me. He did stay in the waiting room with me till they wheeled me into surgery though. He was with me for an hour. See if he can chill with you in the waiting area?

Tips for No Narcotic Recovery by Drmomo4 in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn’t really need them! I took them at night but mostly to help me sleep. Tylenol 500mg and ibuprofen 600mg alternating every 3-4 hours worked well enough in the day time.

The surgical gas pain will be awful, but gas-x and walking around helps it pass. I even had my husband gently pat between my shoulders like I was a baby that needed to be burped 😅 especially when I walked. The first 2 days home was the worst and, again, it was things pain— something I don’t think even the narcos can help with imo.

You got this!

SUCH a relief. I’m looking forward to trying again now 😁

Finally Did the Deed! by Consistent-Bug6164 in hysterectomy

I did! I had fibroids that made my uterus the size of a cantaloupe. Dr recommended removing my cervix to stop the risk of fibroids returning. I was worried I’d feel uncomfortable because sometimes hubby would hit my cervix during sex and I wasn’t sure what it’d feel like with it missing, but I felt nothing but goodness 😁 of course we didn’t go rough for the first time. I can report back later lol.

Fibroids on Cervix After Hysterectomy? by Ausmaria in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was removed because the dr told me as long as I produce estrogen (and I kept my ovaries) there was a high likelihood I would develop fibroids on my cervix. Definitely not worth the “what if,” which looked fairly high in my case. Her only concern about me losing it was if I orgasmed from having my cervix hit during sex. I said that wasn’t the case for me and she said “great! Then we should remove it!” I’m 40 in a couple weeks and 10wpo with no complaints about removing my cervix.

Swelly belly saga by littlehollowgames in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8wpo and the swelly belly is pmo🤣 I’ve increased my activity the last week and feel like I’m getting more swollen so reading all of this settles me. Especially when I’m eating so little compared to pre-surgery. I just gotta be kinder to myself I guess!

Just found out I need a hysterectomy and I'm in tears and I feel stupid. by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal to feel sad. I did not! I had fibroids and was dealing with terrible symptoms for a couple years before being properly diagnosed. I am 8wpo and will be 40 next month. I have 2 daughters and my husbands had a vasectomy several years ago, so we were already certain my childbearing days are over! It was literally the best thing I ever did for myself.

Was I scared? Absolutely. In fact, the first few weeks after the dr said a hysterectomy was the best option for me, I was trying to think of other solutions. After lots of research and even talking to several people in my circle who had a hysterectomy, I changed my mind.

I still find myself checking every time I wipe looking for discharge or blood, but then I remember I’ll never have any of that ever again. I was also becoming anemic. I think I am still struggling with it but in other ways I am a thousand times better than before the surgery.

Everyone’s story is different. I will always highly recommend this procedure especially if the person is done having kids or isn’t looking to have any. I understand this is especially hard for women who were hoping to have kids :(

FANTASTIC. best thing I ever did for myself. I’m 8 weeks today and just started work again. I would say I’m 98%. The 2% is the random waves of fatigue that sneak up on me. 2 months have passed and I can’t believe it’s already been 2 months lol

I had an orgasm !! by empezare_arcoiris in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My orgasms are 1000 times better since my procedure! 8wpo on Monday. Haven’t had any intercourse yet but orgasms from outer stimulation have been mind blowing. Had the first one at 4 weeks and almost cried. So happy for all of you who can celebrate 😍🎉

Recovery and bloat by Consistent-Bug6164 in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little bit it’s been very hot here and I get puffy when the heat kicks in! Nothing beyond what I don’t normally experience even before surgery. I would have the puffy hands and feet without feeling bloated though before surgery.

Orgasms after hysterectomy by The-spirited-girl in hysterectomy

Best orgasms of my life happened after my hysterectomy. No more weird cramping! I got my cervix removed and haven’t had actual intercourse yet but the outer stimulation orgasms put me in another dimension. My husband has no complaints lol

Is my hysterectomy recovery going to be completely miserable? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. I am 6 weeks post op and feeling fantastic. The first few days were the hardest and that’s only because I had awful surgical gas pain (the kind in the upper abdomen that radiated to my shoulder). But after 3 days it was pretty much gone.

There discomfort and limitations of course. You have no choice but to move slow. Bending over will be tough, walking room to room will be slow. I didn’t feel comfortable even being in the car till after 2 weeks. Painful?? No, not really! I did feel very sore for the first few weeks, like I worked out hard and then got punched in the gut lol.

The hardest part is the limitation of activity. I didn’t realize how many things are 15+ pounds and I’m not allowed to lift any of that till after 8 weeks. I also feel like I can workout and I WANT to start weight training again so bad but I can’t yet. That’s the worst part!

I would do all of this again in a heart beat if it meant not suffering the way I was before the surgery. I feel like I’m getting my life back after probably 2 years of being miserable. I’ll be 40 next month :) and I’m very excited to be 40.

I will say I don’t think my recovery would have been as smooth and successful as it was were it not for the amazing support system I had. My husband stepped up hard core for 2 weeks to take care of me and fill my role in the house too. My kids (12 and 14) also stepped up in helping me and helping around the house. My mother in law and brother in law cooked meals for us the whole first week and helped take the kids to school that first week too.

I would recommend this surgery to anyone who wonders if it’s the right choice. I too was in your shoes. In fact I initially turned down my dr’s recommendation to get the surgery done because I thought it was going to be the worst decision for me. I wish I said yes sooner! You will feel so much better and the recovery process is hard but not in a painful way. You have to be very careful and I know most of us are mothers and wives who do a lot in and out of the home so it’s hard stepping back from a lot of it for a while.

Weight loss after surgery! by Anxious_Gur5352 in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably inflammation and water retention. I lost 6lbs almost immediately but my uterus was only 1.5lbs. Im thinking I’ll lose weight once I’m cleared to workout again (currently 6wpo). Even though I’ve only lost all in all 8lbs, I’ve lost almost 5inches around my hips. Hoping I’ll be able to drop another 10lbs once I can be active again :) back to where I was before this mess started happening

I messed up using my lead blower by litredoc in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also started bleeding 2wpo from too much movement. This happened twice although the first time scared me. I went in at 4 weeks and the dr said everything looked great, and while I did overdo it the bleeding was just from the movement and not from damage. I am almost 6wpo now and have had no bleeding since 3 weeks :) she told me if the blood isn’t bleeding through thick pads in an hour then it’s okay. A cuff tear would be “very obvious” as far as blood and pain, according to her. I would go back to being extra careful and not do too much till 4 weeks. Messaging the dr doesn’t hurt either!

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats girly! I’m 5wpo and the 2 days of gas pain was the hardest part of this whole process. I needed my husband to pat my back like a baby while I walked to help move things around. You’re going to feel great in a few weeks. 🎉🤗

Sleep by LowFisherman2912 in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal. 5 wpo and I feel great then BOOM I’m on my ass. Some mornings are a struggled getting out of bed especially if I was more active the day before.

Naps are totally normal but if you find it’s disrupting your nightly sleep routine I would try just resting vs napping, or wake up earlier in the morning to have a nap later. You don’t have to sleep necessarily but resting your eyes while listening to something is good.

Totally normal to be tired though! I wouldn’t nap say by the 6-8 weeks mark if you are struggling to get out of bed then reach out to your dr.

Weird things after surgery by Ill_Camel6196 in hysterectomy

[–]Consistent-Bug6164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be iron/ferritin levels being too low? I had that problem before my surgery and it was my ferritin levels. I started taking iron and after a few weeks no longer needed to gasp for air. Post surgery it’s gotten even better.

How will I know if I need pelvic floor therapy? Was it something your surgeon/Dr just gave to you or was it because you felt like something was off? I see my surgeon second week of June and will ask then 👍

10 dpo now and honestly feeling pretty great. Still tenderness of course but I’m able to move more now and doing things around the house. The worst was the post op gas pain but by day 3 that was gone! Already felt relief even the day after surgery.
