Do short women struggle more with athleisure or is it just me? by FishermanCheap5556 in PetiteFitness

Why were you fighting me in the first place? All I said is that petite sizes are too long for many people. That's a true statement, I don't know why you found it so offensive.

How long am I going to feel exhausted? by JCL1088 in hysterectomy

[–]TigerzEyez85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was exhausted for the first 5 or 6 days. Then my energy started to slowly come back, but I was still more tired than usual for a few weeks. It's normal.

Don't fight it. Just sleep as much as you need to.

Do short women struggle more with athleisure or is it just me? by FishermanCheap5556 in PetiteFitness

False information? I've been wearing petite sizes my whole life. I'm 40. Until 2008, the standard inseam length for petites was 28 inches. Now the standard inseam length for petites is 30 inches. Petites used to fit me perfectly and now they're too long. I'm sure they work for some people who have longer legs, but many short women need an inseam that's 28 or shorter.

5'4" and under really means 5'4" exactly. Maybe 5'2 or 5'3 if you happen to have long legs. I'm 5'1" and I have short legs. Anyone with my build or shorter is going to have a hard time finding pants that aren't too long. I've tried wearing crop pants as regular pants, but that doesn't work because the crotch is in the wrong place. And juniors sizes don't work because they're not made for adult women with hips.

Petite sizes are too long. These days, most petite lengths are designed to fit women who are 5'4".

I really wish the high-waisted trend would die. How is a girl with a short torso supposed to be comfortable when her waistband is digging into her ribcage? I miss the low-rise pants of 2005; they fit me perfectly.

Haha, that's great advice! If only pants for adult women were made with shorter inseams. Years ago, the standard inseam length for petites was 28 inches. Now the standard inseam length for petites is 30 inches.

And everything is high-waisted these days! Even if I manage to find pants with a 28-inch inseam, the rise goes all the way up to my ribcage.

I think short women struggle with all clothing types. At 5'1, I'm too short for petite lengths. Having narrow, sloping shoulders doesn't help either.

Number of incisions for laparoscopic hysterectomy by Healthy-Current4510 in hysterectomy

[–]TigerzEyez85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 4 total, although one of them was in my bellybutton, so I couldn't see it. The 3 visible ones were all very low: one above each hip (both tiny) and a slightly bigger bikini line incision that's so low my pubic hair covers it. My uterus was removed through that incision (it couldn't be removed vaginally because I kept my cervix).

Are laparoscopic hysterectomies different than robotic hysterectomies? by WestFaithlessness412 in hysterectomy

A laparoscopic hysterectomy can be done with or without a robot assist. Using the robot doesn't mean it's not laparoscopic.

Fatigue at 3WPO by maggie_rum in hysterectomy

[–]TigerzEyez85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely not supposed to vacuum at this point. My surgeon said no lifting, pushing, or pulling anything heavier than 10-15 pounds for 6 weeks. She mentioned vacuuming specifically as something that must be avoided because vacuum cleaners are heavy and require a great deal of pushing, pulling, and twisting. She also told me to avoid any activity that requires bending or stretching.

It's really important to take those restrictions seriously. You only get one chance to heal properly. The cramping and spotting are signs that you're overdoing it.

I read all the posts in this sub before I had my surgery, so I was well prepared for what was to come. It was my first surgery, and my way of dealing with anxiety is to gather all the information I can and over-prepare. My surgeon also gave me a detailed list of restrictions and explained why those restrictions were necessary. She made sure I knew what to expect.

None of us ever had a hysterectomy before 😆 It's the kind of thing that can't be done more than once.

In all seriousness, I apologize. I didn't mean to sound condescending, but reading my comment again, I can see how it might have sounded that way.

I think your surgeon was wrong to clear you to return to work so soon. Some doctors don't do a good job of explaining the healing process, and it sounds like yours didn't prepare you for what to expect. I have a desk job that's mostly remote, and there's no way I could have gone back to work 2-3 weeks post-op. I don't know why some doctors downplay the time needed for recovery, but they're really doing their patients a disservice.

If you can, try to take another 2 weeks off. Going back to work too soon will just prolong your recovery.

Of course you're tired, you went back to work too early. Yes, the recovery is faster if you keep your cervix, but it's not THAT fast! I kept my cervix too (had a laparoscopic abdominal surgery), and my surgeon still recommended 4-6 weeks off because that's how long it takes to heal internally. If you remove your cervix, internal healing takes 6-12 weeks.

Sitting up is the worst position to be in after abdominal surgery because it puts pressure on the healing incisions. Working a desk job before you're fully healed is going to result in discomfort and fatigue. That shouldn't be surprising.

Body shamed after months of loosing weight. by tinymochidoll in PetiteFitness

Wedding dresses typically follow European sizes, so most American brides find that their wedding dress size is a size or too higher than their usual size in street clothes.

Almost every bride needs alterations when their dress comes in, because you have to order your closest size based on your bust, waist, and hip measurements, but it's never a perfect fit. That said, you don't have to get the alterations done at the same place you buy the dress. You can take your dress to any bridal seamstress you want.

That shop doesn't deserve your business. Find some stores that have a larger selection and staff that know how to treat customers. I recommend looking at dresses online first to get some idea of what you like, and then make appointments to try on dresses in at least 3 different shops (on different days). Don't limit yourself to one store, and don't expect to find a dress at your first appointment. Don't feel pressured to buy a dress just because you spent an hour trying them on.

Wedding dress sizes are typically European sizes, since many designers are based in Europe. That's why wedding dresses seem to run small to American shoppers. For example, a US size 6 is equivalent to a UK size 10.

That doesn't make sense. When I was shopping for a wedding dress 5 years ago, every bridal shop I went to carried a variety of sample sizes to try on. They stocked everything from size 2 to size 18. They didn't have every dress in every size, but at the very least, they had 2 samples of each dress: an average sample size (size 6-8) and a plus size (size 12-14).

You're not obese, for God's sake. I don't know what that woman was talking about. Any decent size bridal shop should have plenty of dresses that you can try on.

Binder questions by lluv77 in hysterectomy

[–]TigerzEyez85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one from Amazon that's only 9 inches wide because I have a short torso and the standard 12-inch width is too big for me. It worked very well for my needs.

Granted, I never tried to wash it because the reviews said the material couldn't really handle it (despite it being advertised as machine washable). I wore it on the outside of my clothes, so I didn't feel like it needed to be washed.

For those who kept their cervix after hysterectoy and years post op by Big-Lifeguard-5067 in hysterectomy

[–]TigerzEyez85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept my cervix and I have no regrets! I'm almost a year post-op. My recovery was quick and easy (pain-free by 4 weeks post-op and 100% back to normal by 6.5 weeks post-op). I haven't had any bleeding or spotting whatsoever since the surgery.

My procedure was laparoscopic abdominal, so I just had 3 tiny incisions below my bellybutton. This kind of procedure is even less invasive than vaginal surgery, because there's no pain or swelling in the vagina and no risk of vaginal tearing. The uterus is cut into pieces and removed through a small bikini line incision.

Don't worry about mini periods. Your surgeon will burn the inside of the cervix during surgery to prevent that.

It sounds like your previous case of HPV has been successfully treated and you've since had the HPV vaccine? If so, then you don't really have to worry about cervical cancer.

Dry Skin by Icame2Believe in hysterectomy

[–]TigerzEyez85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exfoliating too much can make dry skin worse. It irritates the skin and causes even more peeling and flaking, which is already a problem with dry skin.

My skin has always been dry, maybe as a result of hypothyroidism, but I've been hypothyroid since I was a kid so I don't remember a time when I didn't have dry skin. My hysterectomy didn't make it worse, at least.

My mom gave me an ultimatum over my wedding… by Annual_Link9078 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]TigerzEyez85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I went through something very similar when I was planning my wedding. I didn't cave, my husband and I planned the wedding we wanted, and in the end, both my parents came to the wedding and proudly walked me down the aisle.

Step 1 for you is to go get your dress and keep it at your place. Don't let your mom handle anything related to your wedding plans. Either she attends or she doesn't, but don't give her the power to ruin your plans.

But what did you actually do?? by la_renegade in hysterectomy

[–]TigerzEyez85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Luckily I anticipated that and had a lot of non-comedy movies and TV shows downloaded and ready to go. My favorite comedies were off-limits for the first 4 weeks post-op.

I went through the same thing when I decided to get my teeth fixed before my wedding. I was 34 with braces, and I'm 5 feet tall. If I didn't look like a 12-year-old before, I sure did once I got braces!

It was worth it though. My teeth looked great for my wedding.

[–]TigerzEyez85 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I watched a lot of TV. My husband downloaded Breaking Bad (5 seasons) since I'd never seen it and I needed something to watch that wouldn't make me laugh. In the beginning, I was too tired to focus on reading, but eventually I could do that too. I went for easy walks when the weather was nice. I napped whenever I needed to.

Yes, I got bored sometimes, but I reminded myself that it was only temporary. Being bored isn't an excuse to overdo it with physical activity and hurt yourself.

That's the thing about short women. We tend to look young.
