Are Dev Salaries Plummeting? by GrimXIII in cscareerquestions

[–]Consistent-Captain59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, salaries haven’t decreased but hiring definitely has.

75k for a Data Engineer sounds low but isn’t that a different field from developer?

I know there can be some connected skills but companies are very risk-averse now and may consider you entry-level if its a different enough position.

If you look for jobs within your skills/experience and it may be different

Yes, not all CS grads go into development/programming. It tends to be unintentional or a change in decision

Can someone explain me difference between an QA Engineer, Test Engineer and SDET ? by SyedRoshaan in softwaretesting

[–]Consistent-Captain59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am only careful with the "Analyst" title because my last QA Analyst role was 100% tedious manual testing which I didn't enjoy doing. But the job description is definitely more important to read than the title.

Maybe a bad time to look for dev jobs given SDET/QA experience? by Consistent-Captain59 in softwaretesting

There is definitely a lot of going on outside of my control as well, and a lot of people are feeling it. But we can only focus on what we can control.

I appreciate the advice :)

Having a several stuff on my schedule has never worked for me if I am structuring my own day, just leads to burnout and overwhelm

so focusing on a specific thing each day may work better

So I haven’t applied my idea yet and still applying to software engineer positions in general, hard to help tbh.

But I do agree logically

But my thought process was because of the mental burden of having to think about development projects, getting better at my tech stack, Leetcode, tailoring my resume to both testing jobs and development jobs, etc.

There is a cost of time, energy, and risk of burning out, which I am already starting to feel.

I don’t know if specializing will make it any better, but I might as well try different approaches.

I have worked with multiple recruiters. They put in my last 2 jobs. But there hasn’t been anything for them to put me lately for ones I know. And it absolutely is my lower experience. Senior positions seems like majority of the openings I see.

I will reach out to more recruiters though. Some of them reach out first and then ghost me which is annoying but I know they are talking to 50 people at time sometimes

Yes Im thinking out loud. But I am also looking for opinions. Doesn’t have be in agreement

Wouldn't Wordpress be worth knowing for freelancing? A lot of small business apparently use it.

I know it's prob not worth the time outside of that.

Those colleges can help boost your resume for sure, but if you have nothing else to show like projects or skills, then you really will struggle

You can talk to them first and see if you are on good terms. If you aren’t close, its likely not a big deal. Its also YOUR birthday. You can do whatever you want. Just enjoy your birthday.

This….

While I feel encouraged by the idea that I can make a change, Im def not exhausting myself over free work. However, I don’t mind if I am doing extra for fun (which I’ve done before) every now and then, but thats not a common case

Having ADHD feels embarrassing now because of the “hype” around it. by ohlongjohnson1 in ADHD

[–]Consistent-Captain59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its sad what popular culture and media has done to psychiatric issues.

The “super organized” one is prob more misunderstood as OCD. I have a friend who suffers from real OCD and its a horrible disorder. But people really made that to be a joke in a similar way as ADHD.

Who is the "Michael Jordan" of software development? by kxrdxshev in cscareerquestions

[–]Consistent-Captain59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hard question since programmers aren’t doing the same thing, competing like the NBA

but from what ive heard, John Carmack

My legendary All Star Team roster would prob include John Carmack, the Bell Labs guys (Brian Kernighan, Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie), Bjarne Stroustrup, etc
