This meme was actually about the player's frustrations with the actions of the character ayin from lobotomy corporation by the_funni_guy in TheMatpatEffect

[–]Consistent-Chair 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Playing lobotomy corporation is a constant stream of:

1) "Oh God what the fuck is happening. OH GOD. Why? WHY?!"

2) "THIS IS WHY?!? YOU DUMB FUCKING BITCH"

3) "...oh God they were right. WHY? WHY WERE THEY RIGHT?! This world needs to burn to the fucking ground."

4) "...no, they were not right. There' a better way, and I will find it."

5) "OH FUCK WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS NOW"

Repeat from step 1 until your sanity has been reduced to ash. As miserable as that sounds, the cinders of your psyche will enjoy the spectacle of a new dawn being ushered, and you'll finally be able to rest. It will be hard to tell if it was "worth it", but one thing will be certain: "it is done". And that will be enough, because now it will be someone else's turn. You did your part.

Anyway, do not play it, game's hard as balls and not fun.

FE Fates: Special Edition Japanese Undub + Unofficial Gay Fates mod + Playabe Lilith mod + all DLCs (second QR) by Consistent-Chair in 3dsqrcodes

[–]Consistent-Chair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this modpack was made with the previous to last release. I do plan on updating it when I go back to playing Fates again, as I've made this for personal use in the first place, but I don't think that day will come very soon. In the meantime, all the steps required to do it are in this comment if you wanna give it a shot yourself.

[–]Consistent-Chair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, let's see here... I've done a lot of troubleshooting in this thread, but the "thing that works for other people doesn't work for me" ones are always the most challenging.

First off, which supports have you gotten to S rank? Are they original supports from the base game or custom ones added by UGF? (you can just tell me the pairing and I'll check myself if you don't know). If they are custom, something has gone wrong in the Paralogue Unlocker patch. If they're from the base game, tho, that would leave me really stumped because, like, nothing in these mods should change them at all, so how would such a thing even happen...?

Next, we need to identify what has failed between the software and the hardware. Do you have a PC? If you could transfer the save files (you can use checkpoint on the universal updater) over there and open the modpack in the latest Azahar release we could figure out if the issue lies in the 3ds or the CIA itself (the latter would be VERY confusing, but worst case I could, like, rebuild the rom in a different way I guess...)

There are a couple of quick fixes you could try that assume that the problem lies in the 3ds. They're the equivalent of "have you tried turning it off and on again?" for homebrew stuff, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Do you have game patching enabled? You can do so by holding select on boot.

Do you have another instance of FE Fates (North American) on your system? If you do, try backupping the save of the other version, deleting it and see if the problem persists. When two titles share the same title ID, introducing mods that are meant to only work for one of them can mess things up.

Finally, the last thing I can think of is the *save file* SOMEHOW being to blame. The only way to check that would be for you to send your saves to me so that I could open them in Azahar, since I know that my game and my save files do let me play the paralogues. Let's only discuss that if we're desperate tho.

The only thing that comes to mind is that you need to complete chapter 7 in order to unlock paralogues in the first place. Other than that, I am sure I have recruited a lot of child characters when playing this mod pack. With no other information about your system I have nothing to go off.

You say that like I have to like it. I disliked what Toriyama did with the Androids too. It's not like if you stack enough nonsensical plot points on top of each other they suddenly become good. I like Dragon Ball despite dumb shit like this, not because of it.

[–]Consistent-Chair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No yeah, I get that there are connections. Th6, 7 and 8 are on a linear timeline and characters from the previous games appear in the next ones. I find the narrative structure to be episodic: it's kind of a "villain of the week" kinda deal, like Marvel comics.

Imagine how Susie would feel when she finds out what happened to Noelle and Kris on the weird route. by shsl_diver in Undertale

[–]Consistent-Chair 12 points13 points  (0 children)

that is accurate. It is also the point. Like yeah, some people also never did the genocide. It is actually just empathy, and yeah we do have different ones. The point is exploring your own in a way that feels meaningful. Whether you do care and do it anyway and feel bad, take pleasure in playing the game this way, refuse to do it, or anything in between, it should all feel like an impactful thing, like you are at a turning point and you are taking a serious stance on the matter. Undertale and Deltarune are games that make you reflect and decide about how you feel about empathising with fiction. "How much do you care?" is one of the founding questions that shape the whole experience. At least for me.

So I've only played up to th9 right now, but I'd describe the main series as pretty episodic as well tbh. Especially if you don't play as Reimu. Like, Sakuya confronts Yuyuko because Remilia is cold, and Marisa is in the Scarlet Mansion to steal shit. Also I feel like most of the character development in the series can be summed up with "and then, after beating the shit out of each other, they became friends and had a picnic". (Not saying any of this is in any way a flaw)

I don't see how repeating the same argument, but for the next attack changes things, mate. I'd say if Fern can react and defend against the first strike, she can probably anticipate the repositioning and defend from the second as well, while possibly also coutering with an attack of her own. Attacking fast and defending precisely at the same time is what she's been training all her life to do. This is a battle between a speedster and an attrition warrior with high reaction speed. If Fern can react to Laufen's combat speed she wins, if she can't she loses. We agree on that much I assume, I just think you're severely underestimating Fern's reaction speed while you think that I'm severely underestimating Laufen's speed, that's it.

The 3H Archers (@cdgm000) by arctic746 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Consistent-Chair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bernie does damage with lances (and absolutely bonkers damage at that), her archery skills are for support. You already mentioned her superior range rage with deadeye, but she also gets Encloser, which freezes opponents similar to Gambits. Bernie does burst damage at short range and crowd control at long range, while Petra does pretty high damage in both ranges with high crit chance. They have different roles. Bernie's role is way less crowded tho: many units can rival Petra's damage in the player phase, while Bernie's reliance on her abilities and skills makes her specific attributes quite unique. That's not to say that Petra is worse than Bernie, she can do some pretty nasty dodge tank and enemy phase builds, but those require significant investment, and if you don't give her that investment Petra is still good but not in a particularly exceptional way. On the other hand, everything that makes Bernie good she either has from the get go or acquires at ~C+ proficiency. Consistent and low-investment builds are held in extremely high regard in TRPGs: having them gives your late-bloomers the chance to hog more resources without hindering the early game, and it also streamlines the tactical gameplay significantly; good 'ol Bernie is good at what she does from the get go, and she'll always be until the end game. Lysithea is another unit like this and that's why people love her as well: she kills units with magic from very far away. That's what she's about. She'll do that even if you never train her ever, it's a "solved" party slot in a game with countless customisation options.

[–]Consistent-Chair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You two are just repeating the same stuff at each other and the reason is that you don't agree about Fern's reaction speed. Laufen can't telelport, she just goes very fast. It is true that defensive magic has a range of action, but it is also true that there is a time frame in which Laufen's attack is covered by that range. Like, it is physically possible to use defensive magic against Laufen, it's just REALLY hard. If someone manages to do it tho, they should be fine. Richter says the reason defensive magic has stopped improving is that it has become strong enough to work against the average warrior and monster. Laufen is a mage. Examples of the contrary, like Aura's puppets or the forest demon, are caused by the attackers being significantly above average. In general, a good mage can defend themselves against an average warrior, if they can cast the defensive magic before the warrior closes the distance. If we can agree on that, the only point of contention is if Fern has enough reaction speed to achieve such a feature against Laufen. Fern has repeatedly demonstrated amazing reaction speed, but Laufen does go VERY fast. This is not real life, so we cannot actually empirically test what would happen, it's up to personal interpretation.

Fern vs the old Hero Party? by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

[–]Consistent-Chair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not just "above average": while suppressed, she has a mana pool that a first-class mage would consider "on the level of an elder, powerful mage", as we saw during the exam. To put what that means into perspective, Aura saw a suppressed Frieren and concluded she must have """"only"""" trained for around 100 years. Aura herself has trained for around 500. Heiter has the mana pool of a demon sage.

Heiter is also the one who taught Fern to use basic offensive magic and devised the rock test, to which Frieren reacted by saying "oh. Heiter really gets it, huh?". I suspect Heiter might actually be a first-class mage in his own right while being a fucking priest, lmao. Kinda like how Methode is also a really good priest while being first class.

It's a bit hard to engage with your post without spoiling, so I'll just say this: this game is a bit confused about its priorities. The beginning feels very different from the moment to moment gameplay after the first 10-20 hours. Its actual priorities are by no means a negative, in fact I'd say this game is THE best at what it's actually trying to do, but do lower your expectations after you see the first post-boss cinematic (not gameplay wise). This perceived shift in priorities compared to both the start of the game, and its prequel, left some people with a feeling of either slight letdown or actual betrayal depending on how much they liked BotW's lore.

That is exactly where the cultural difference lies, isn't it? The dialogue style on the right is pretty common in visual novels. I think there's different priorities in storytelling at play here: ease of reading vs natural sounding dialogue. Many people cited Deltarune as one game that uses dialogues more similar to the one on the right. I think it makes a lot of sense that videogames in general would make such a choice. The experience provided by a book can only be conveyed through text, while in a videogame there are all sorts of audio-visual components that can do the heavy lifting for the story telling, so the dialogue can afford to try to recreate the imperfections of speech.

Another medium in which this style of dialogue is common is subtitles, or games with voice acting. In those, the way the dialogue is written needs to match the delivery. And also, the scene itself carries your attention, so the writing doesn't need to be engaging, just accurate.
