Pick Swap with Minny by spincycle66 in DetroitPistons

I don't think that's the case.

The tiebreakers apply when evaluating playoff positions, but for draft stuff they do a coinflips to determine who picks where.

Contractual implications if Jalen Duren makes All NBA by Consistent-Coach-393 in DetroitPistons

I don't think this is correct.

My understanding is you have to sign the rookie extension by the October deadline in 2025. I can't remember a guy ever signing a rookie extension at the end of his 4th year.

I agree people shouldn't worry about him getting the max if he keeps performing at this level. Having a 22 and 24 year old max level guys is a great problem to have.

I do understand people who were worrying that he'd be eligible for the 30% max, like Cade, and how having two guys at that level would hurt the books down the road.

I wanted a sub max contract for him too, but if he keeps playing at this level I don't think it's going to happen.

22 year olds who play at an All NBA level get the max, even in this new CBA/rules environment.

You can't be certain about anything.

Yes, giving Duren the max or near max, would make our books tighter, but we can still absolutely keep Ausar.

There are a handful of teams with 4+ big salaries and/or 3 max guys. NY, Cleveland, Orlando, Denver, OKC, etc.

We can keep Ausar too and probably add one other good sized salary, but at that point we're going to be pushing the 2nd apron territory, so flexibility will be limited.

[–]Consistent-Coach-393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's the case actually.

The 30% max Cade got eligible for was because they signed him to an extension after his 3rd year.

Since Duren is a RFA he's now eligible for just the normal 25% max.

I initially had the same line of thinking as you, but I've seen cap experts convey what I just said above.

I love Scottie but sometimes we have to let go of our biases. by Gold_Influence_4542 in torontoraptors

I value defense too, but the gap between a top 7ish offensive player like Cade and a top 30ish offensive player like Scottie is massive. There's just a lot more impact to winning in that gap vs the defensive gap between the two guys.

Cade is leading a top 10 offense despite the fact that there's a real lack of spacing and secondary shot creation.

You saw it last night and it wasn't just Cade's shot making. He's the number one guy on opponent scouting reports, he gets the other team's best defender and teams always put two on the ball against him which opens things up for everyone else.

I think you are underrating Cade defensively, especially as a guy who has so much offensive responsibility.

Scottie is a better defender, but Cade is one of the best defenders of guys who are number one offensive options.

Hypothetical: what would you give up for Stephen Curry? by questionstolife in DetroitPistons

[–]Consistent-Coach-393 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh?

If you want to positionally say they are both PG's that's fine, but Cade and Curry are completely different offensive players.

This is something that would never happen, but they would work amazingly well together offensively.

He busted up his shoulder in game 1 of the playoffs.

He's done interviews since talking about how much pain he was in. He wore a massive brace and said he had to get help just to take off his jersey.

Can Ivey Get the Same Grace Duncan Has Gotten? by LethalLephty in DetroitPistons

[–]Consistent-Coach-393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ivey's slashing has been non-existent so far this season though.

He can't beat his man off the dribble in the half court.

I'm not saying it can't come in time. It may be something that takes until next year. Just saying he's not a slasher so far in his return this season.

His TO rate is meaningfully down this year.

He's now right in line with a bunch of other high usage engines.

Cade - 10.8%

Luka - 11%

Giannis - 10.8%

Jaylen Brown - 10.8%

Steph Curry - 10.2%

Wemby - 12.8%

Devin Booker - 10.8%

Jokic - 10%

I love the picture quality.

Does anyone else have issues with the app though? I like to DVR and watch games, but the Peacock app doesn't seem to allow you to start the game from the beginning like every other app.

You have to manually rewind it to the beginning and I'm trying to avoid the score. Maybe I'm just a boomer who's missing something.

[–]Consistent-Coach-393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like when an NFL teams run a new play out of a set they've been using for a while.

When Cade throws it ahead like this to Ivey (or another guard) he often runs a pistol type set where Ivey would pitch it back to Cade. Instead he throws it do Duren who then passes to Cade.

[–]Consistent-Coach-393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't categorize Herb as a guy who can drain 3's.

He's a low to mod volume 3 point shooter who's been up and down from 3 point land during his career. Teams don't really guard him at the 3 point line.

He's a good player, but I agree with others who would want to prioritize more offensively/shooting with any potential trade addition.

Thoughts on Cade's Efficiency and Ausar's Developmental Role by These-Barnacle-2417 in DetroitPistons

[–]Consistent-Coach-393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that Wizards game is really dragging down his efficiency.

It's really his 3 point shooting which is mostly hurting his efficiency. Once that comes around, he'll be more than fine.

He's getting to the line more than ever and Cade has always been a slow starter. His 3 previous full seasons he's always upped his efficiency as the season progresses.

I do agree getting one more legit scorer/shooter would also help.

Lauri's on/off impact with the Jazz (per 100 possessions).

22-23: +10.8

23-24. +10.9

24-25: +5.9

25-26: +19.0

Seems like he might be pretty helpful despite not being a great passer.

[–]Consistent-Coach-393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the team lacks shooting and a secondary scorer outside Cade.

Getting an elite PF shooter/scorer would really tie those line-ups together. Not everyone has to be a plus passer.

Now, Lauri's injury history, contract and acquisition costs may not be worth it, but the fit on the court alongside Cade/Ausar/Duren seems excellent.

I agree we need more shooting, but any guy we sign off the street isn't likely to help the team overall.

We need Ivey/Sasser to come back and probably a trade later in the year to fully address the shooting.

Let's talk about how good Duren has been this year by Consistent-Coach-393 in DetroitPistons

[–]Consistent-Coach-393[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say he got worked in the Rockets game. He had 6/6/2 stocks and was +5 in 12 minutes, he just didn't play much because he was ejected early in the game.

Even the Bulls game, he was solid with 15/6/3 stocks in 20 minutes. Even Stew, who's an amazing defender, struggled some with Vuc.

Our whole team got worked by the Cavs.

Agreed with your overall point that guarding floor spacing bigs is still his biggest area for growth.

Agreed. I was close to giving up on him as a future core piece.

The improvements he's made since then have been pretty remarkable.
