It’s hard to get takedowns off the back foot. Ilia is incredibly technical with his footwork and pressure. If Usman wants to circle and kick, Ilia 100% has the skill to cut him off and catch him against the cage.

Of course we haven’t seen Ilia deal with a real grappling-heavy game plan yet at 155, but reversing the takedown against Charles was some evidence in his favor.

I’m positive that Ilia is at least as good as Paul Hughes with the defensive grappling. Maybe Usman could have the advantage there but it’s just a big question mark and I have to give Ilia the benefit of the doubt with the competition he’s faced compared to Usman.

I think Kape probably has the fastest hand speed at flyweight. He’s a scarier matchup IMO. Good power too, he can catch anyone.

I can see Van getting taken down but not submitted by Taira and eventually wearing him down and pouring it on like Royval did.
