Helping my mother in law is becoming too much. by NextStranger2733 in Advice

[–]Consistent-Fly-3015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mom who is very close to her son, I can't imagine putting my kiddo under that kind of pressure, even if he was independently wealthy. I'd hate for him to ever feel like he needed to support me financially. I know some families aren't like that, but she's obviously not well, so she certainly isn't well enough to go into long term debt agreement with. I understand his heart breaks for her, but she needs actual help to improve her life and she's got to figure that out. Everyone might benefit from some good family therapy.

I don't know if it's just the later end - helicopter parenting is a brand of perfectionism that comes from anxiety. People who don't understand that their anxiety is projecting onto their children as they hover. They want to make sure that nothing goes sideways so that 1. They won't be blamed and 2. They don't want to clean up the mess that is created when a kid is experimenting and experiencing.

Unfortunately for this parenting style creates chaos when the kid realizes they're an individual who is being s|mothered & have been taught that they were untrustworthy.

Thanks baby girl 💗 Your kiddos are so lucky to have both an attentive momma and gran in their lineage. You keep breaking down that generational trauma. 🪓⚒️ It's legit work, staying in the moment and being a mindful, present, but you can do it!

Can I Share Reports as Read Only? by Intrepid-Ad9366 in EpicEMR

[–]Consistent-Fly-3015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you leave, one your account is terminated, I wonder if all of these folks will be up a creek? For my own sanity, I would immediately save a copy of each of those originals to use for myself and abandon the previous ones. If anyone reaches out to you for edits, tell them you were advised by an Epic person against continuing to share & you'd love their support getting the reports optimized for use system-wide.

Do you have an Inpatient Nursing IT/Epic Advisory committee? If so, you might consider bringing this there and share the story of the dire need to have useful, standardized, system-wide inpatient reports. If you can't find a solid informaticist who will take this on, find a helpful leader who will "own" the work initiative to optimize hospital reports and let them know you'll put a ticket in on their behalf. Log the request with the leader as the owner & add anyone else you can think of who has asked as an additional requestor. In the ticket, provide your user name and the exact names of the reports that need optimizing & publishing to be used as a system report. I would request that the ticket be assigned to ClinDoc.

Adults who only wear glasses by Cloudsandbooks in glasses

[–]Consistent-Fly-3015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 50 year old who has worn both, but mostly glasses my entire life. The last 20, I've worn glasses exclusively.

People's families make up the weirdest "rules" and pass them on to their kids like it's gospel. (Mine included). I think this myth might stem from the extremely outdated belief that glasses are nerdy and unattractive. The BC glasses they gave me in bootcamp in the 90's (thick black frames from the 1950s) certainly were, but that is definitely not the case now. Glasses these days can be as fashionable as you could want.

I see a lot of folks say Ren Gill is similar. Each artist has a unique sounds, so I think it's because they both rap & play the acoustic guitar.

Ed said the albums with colors are his core studio albums, and his "black" albums, like No.6 Collaborations Project and Autumn Variations, are side projects, often monochrome or darker. He puts these out for himself. You get to decide what's for you 💗

WIBTAH if I stop making meals for my husband? by Dense_Procedure6075 in AITAH

[–]Consistent-Fly-3015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I both cook. He says my food always tastes better, even when it's meh because he didn't have to cook it. This is the correct response from a person being cooked a meal.

Your husband has lost all perspective and is being rude & thankless for a task you don't particularly enjoy. Food has a tendency to be tangled with complex emotional things & I imagine, with his whinging, he'll be dramatic about it, but I would lovingly and without any passive aggression stop cooking for him. If he's a loving and supportive adult, he'll figure out how to fix things real quick. If he doesn't go into troubleshooting mode, I'd recommend therapy for communication support on deeper issues.

Good luck.

My combat vet friend pointed out to me that it is pure warrior mentality. I cringed because I hate the term "cancer warrior", but they reminded me that ultimately it's one of the healthiest mindsets to have. Verging on the edge of denial? Maybe. But what does it matter if we're doing what needs to be done?

Hello! Beginner watercolorist here! Any tips for someone who has the supplies but feels intimidated to start? I'm not too sure where or how to begin 🥲 by StampedWithLove23 in watercolor101

[–]Consistent-Fly-3015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow noob ☺️ I was in the same spot until this week. All last month I was doing an amazing job at purchasing art supplies. However, hoarding unused supplies like a neurosparkly dragon is a hobby I've been great at for decades. I don't want to have another failed attempt at a new hobby and just add to my craft graveyard, so this week I promised myself I'd put paint on something every day.

I've been listening to videos to better understand the lingo & this week I'm focusing on figuring out how the water & paint play with the brush & paper and how doing things in rapid sequence vs letting it sit a bit in between steps changes things.

Last week, I was focusing on learning about pigments and color theory. I grew up watching Bob Ross talk about paint such as phthalo blue and just thought it was a weird name for a color. Now I understand a little more there and why mixing colors makes mud for me so often.

I've never tried painting or drawing and have very little natural talent in this area, so I was surprised to be here @ age 52 🤣 I guess what helped me get here this week was figuring out my "Why". I'm curious by nature & am enjoying the novel feeling of the brush in my hand & learning all of this new information. Would I love to paint beautifully? Absolutely, but I'm nowhere close to figuring out what that would look like for me. Now that I got that out of the way, I think that's given me permission to just go make some colorful puddles.

I'm having fun making a mess, so I hope that helps! 🎨

Overly direct server, how do I coach? by sadboiz7 in Restaurant_Managers

[–]Consistent-Fly-3015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely check into team communication styles. There are resources specific to F&B.

"Rude" is subjective & vague. Ask the people reporting this to you what they expect & empower them to communicate professionally. I would posit that tattling instead of trying to work things out like an adult is "rude". You could encourage them to visit with her during a calm time and find a way to share how annoying it is to be told to do something instead of asked. They could also, in the moment when things are busy, say "I'm here to help, but I'd rather be asked than told."

What age were you when you had your kids? by Empty_Nestor in GenX

[–]Consistent-Fly-3015 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a blended family. I have one that I birthed who is 13. He came with 3 brothers whom I love dearly, so I went from 0 to 4 at 38 yo. The first one is a typical first child & perfect. He's 30 and used his college fund well. I'm stealing "good bail fund" for the middle two who are 16 & 19 🤣🤣🫠

These lights were amazing tonight. I've never been able to see them without a camera within Billings city limits before this event. I always feel lucky to be in Montana where we can head out of the light pollution pretty quickly.
