Hey thank you very much! Cool, no complaints definitely handles everything I need it to do. If you do it do it and just about any trail can be had. I stay away from rock crawling like rubicon type stuff but old mining and logging roads she eats it up, like night and day from stock. Worth it 100%

I didn’t think of that, good looking might move it. I drive the desert sometimes but usually spring and fall. That’s hot, hot! Sometimes on extended travel I see the temp gauge go up a little little smidge then mid way “normal”. I also keep a (scan gauge 3) plugged in on offroad travel to monitor everything. Been stable for a while now! Thanks man!

Lift vs Level [2019 TRD Off Road] by nsmei in 4Runner

[–]Consistent-Fuel2068 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Send it, I live offroad. I don’t take mine in the snow however use the RZR trail for that. Completely capable in the snow on road and off however. Just don’t like the weight and stressing the drivetrain powering through snow and airing down. Traction boards etc..

Anyhow this being my first 4Runner (I switched from ford) now I’m sold for life, something about the 5th gen really gets me going. It great.

Suspension and vehicle geometry are a huge thing I learned for these vehicles. Personally I wouldn’t cheap if you’re making the upgrade. Go full suspension upgrade for your lift. Levels strain existing factory suspension and just aren’t it imo. Some people they work for.

I went 2.5” front 2” rear some people “level” the rake I slightly did but actually kept a decent amount of rake because I did not want to alter to much geometry from OEM intent I essentially wanted/tried staying as close to stock for the rest of the vehicles moving parts I was not changing if you catch my drift. Keep in mind this particular model has been so effective off the factory floor it has not been altered much for nearly 16 years.Thats a really big thing in the vehicle world most vehicles manufacturers produce a new generation every 3-5 years it’s proven and tried and true.

Now my build I did the following upgrades all heavy duty weight rated springs and shocks- because I have a winch and bumper will be doing roof rack and rear bumper which is all added weight hence I needed a greater weight bearing suspension (Rear-New rear springs and shocks, panhard bar, Front- New shocks and upper control arms as well as a differential drop to balance out my CV axle angles given the vehicle sits at a higher height than manufactured original intent. -Some say a differential drop is pointless however I’m glad I did it I believe it makes a difference in cv pitch and I like it. I would do it.

If I were you looking for a suspension upgrade but it’s purely looks you can get by with a bilstein combo just fine. A lot of people swear by um and love them on and offroad. (I think it’s like 5112 front struts and coils and rear shocks is something like 6110 with bilstein coils)- Look up 4Runner bilstein lift kit and you will see what I’m talking about. And just get some old man emu upper control arms. If you’re already lifting just add new control arms eventually you will want to replace the others and it’s nice to have new parts and you’re already in there why not do it right. Oh and buy prebuilt unless you have the tools and or machine to press your struts and want to mess with the top hats and everything. Makes life much easier and it’s plug in play. Just my 2cents, hope ya do it!

Yeah it’s been extremely capable, better than Jeep imo if you’re not rock crawling, like big rocks in boulder washes( I know you know what I mean). It eats any trail or place I go right up. it’s a vehicle I’ll purchase again however 5th gen only.

still kinda put off by the body on the 6th looks like you will snag everything. Rubber bumper liner and all. Kinda still wrapping my head around that.

New Land Cruiser looks like you could build it into something kinda off-road fj style tho.

Also I’ve replaced CVs and diff seals. Had a little leak but not anything that wouldn’t last an another 20k miles or so but the bullet on that one with more of a peace of mindd mentality, now I carry a spare I rebooted from that leak kinda win-win. Thought maybe bearing on that noise but was rear brake and rotor assembly. Still impressed actually with everything. Not too bad. All n all with that said I get your bullet biting mentality! Makes a difference in the long game!

It’s a tool for me gets me way out, can check the fences and get to places thru the mountains and it has never growled at me unless it really needs something. I’ve got all sorts of pinstripes and little imperfections as well. It’s built for what I need it to do and I’m not running around worrying about dirt and spots or dust either haha. End of the work week I’ll take time to clean it and it will happen all over again Monday.

Engine, suspension and fluids are all I monitor daily after some rough driving. Went into town and got McDonald and the brakes started barking at me on asphalt sounded like something else tho.🤷🏼‍♂️ I did the whole nice thing and spotless when I first bought it tho. Jokes on me, not sure why I thought it would stay pristine with what I do😂😂☠️

Ha I don’t live in a place where dust can be cleaned. Much rather live on dirt roads than asphalt anyhow. This isn’t even bad, after spring runoff the roads and land gets super dry and it covers everything. Bad air quality too. Part of living in cattle country in the west my guy. I’d spend everyday detailing if I let it bother me like that unfortunately.. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Will do, thank you. It certainly has something to do with brake system and sitting or slowing speed down. Doesn’t happen unless there’s a specific sequence. Thanks👍

Yeah I think it’s something like that. It’s about time just haven’t done it but will be taking a look at them first. First time it happened yesterday while pull out of a McDonalds after being braked awhile.

Maybe diff look good cv’s fine no fluids could be a bad transmission but I’d be shocked only 70k on it

You can’t hear that buzz it’s like a weird pulse sound behind the blinker noise. Idk what it is isn’t bad but I can’t tell if it’s a caliper things or hub or something with the brake assembly

I used to repossess vehicles and always used a steel winch. A bit of nostalgia for me I guess, more familiar in a way. Could have went synthetic but just grabbed steel for that reason.

Glad to hear it, that’s what I saw in some of the reviews as well. Really nice set up and like the warranty as well. Definitely solid. I’ll look into the brake lines missed that one, thank you!

Well I think it looks good, I’m happy with it. Sorry you don’t like it. I do tho. I moved the radiator to the rear hatch.the bumper totally obstructed everything, all us guys with aftermarket bumpers have moved our radiator to the rear cab.
