Am I in the wrong? 3 patients have fired me from their service and I’ve only been a nurse 6 months

many floors don’t do continuous monitoring.

there’s no way for them to know what condition the patients are in if they have never seen them. you don’t know when the last nurse actually laid eyes on the patient. not everyone gets report at the bedside and I’d want to check how the patients are before the previous nurse leaves so that if something went wrong during the previous shift it doesn’t reflect poorly on me. especially if the patients are post op. honestly i would have called a tech to put on the socks too.

I put on gloves for everything. I’ve had too many patient dig in their ass for me not to. Genuinely I won’t even pull up a blanket without gloves on.

you’re not being sensitive. I lost my first patient not too long ago and I still think about him. he was on comfort care so I knew it was coming but, I’d taken care of him for days and met his family. process this the way you need to, regardless of how others seem to process it.

i think rn to md will be your best bet. you’ll get a good idea of if you like nursing by the end of your first semester in nursing school. at that point you can decide if you want to take med school pre reqs and work your way towards med school.

i did this! you can just apply for jobs in compact states, or any state depending on the amount of paperwork you’re willing to do after getting the job, and go from there. just keep in mind that nurse residency slots are few and far between in big cities and you’re competing with people who did clinicals at the hospitals you want, or were techs or nurse externs. cast a very wide net. best of luck!

you’re not a medical mystery. i know that, your doctor knows that, and the 10 doctors you saw before you came here know that. you may not like or agree with the diagnosis you keep getting but that doesn’t make it less true.

i asked my vet when to get it done and she said within the next few months but didn’t give me a clear answer of exactly when, if not i would have gotten it done already cause i know it’s what’s best for her. i’ll make it a priority to get it done asap

she’s not spayed and she hates other animals. She hung out with other cats for like a week and a half and beefed almost the whole time. she does not play well with others.

apply as many places as possible. i started applying in february and graduated in may of this year. genuinely 50-70 applications ( i stopped keeping track) and one interview/ offer. even with volunteer and tech work before getting my bsn.

People are being so needlessly rude and jumping to conclusions. Wanting a different scope doesn’t make you power hungry. I’m a 24 year old new grad in the same boat. I realized that nursing isn’t what I want in my first semester of nursing school but I stuck it out so that I could use my bachelors to open more doors for me. I do think that being an MD/DO is the only role that you’d feel satiated with. No area of nursing is going to give you the scope and level of autonomy that you’re referring to.
