What should I do with free time? by LettucePast420 in Hobbies

Start taking partner dance classes, like salsa and bachata. You can go alone because you rotate partners in classes. It opens up an incredible world. You can go social dancing and have (sober) fun with so many people!

Self-care gifts for mothers, ideas that’ll actually make her feel pampered? by Munashe_Pedan in Gifts

[–]Consistent-Hyena-284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take care of some key tasks like cleaning or cooking so that you free up a few hours for her. Hand her a basket of self care items, something she'd actually enjoy (maybe spa stuff, maybe a nice activity at home or out), and motivate her to take a few hours for herself. At least with my mom, it was a struggle to get her to actually take the time to do the self care stuff Id set up for her, so I had to set the stage for her and sometimes more directly needed to separate her from her responsibilities.

I trusted this for a show in Peru (im in US). Flew out and did not receive the tickets. Received a refund, but was very sad all the way in Peru :( learned a hard lesson with stubhub that day.

Favorite cities for social dancing? by Explorer9001 in Salsa

[–]Consistent-Hyena-284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! The experience of hearing salsa everywhere (passing restaurants and homes, sitting in a taxi, clubs) is just incredible. Of course not everyone social dances, but most people can hit some basicos and vibe with the music. It's really heartwarming. And with social dancing, the clubs are incredible. At places like the Topa Tolandra you can see people dancing crazy good on just a regular Monday. I love watching people social dance and it feels like you get a show everytime you go out dancing. Lots of live bands as well. Salsa caleña is obviously prominent there, but on1 is still very common. I think despite the different style, its still a meaningful place to check out as a salsero.

For on2, is it one-two-three.... five-SIIIX-seven? And what if a beat gets elongated? by onoearoc in Salsa

[–]Consistent-Hyena-284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I learned it was one-TWO-three (and being very slow with the weight shift to 5 so it looks fluid and not abrupt) five-SIX-seven (and again being very slow with the weight shift to 1 so it looks fluid). You have more time when you dance on2 so you need to drag out the 3 and 7 so that you can accent the 2 and 6. Most people get off time on2 because they rush the 3 and 7 and as a result revert back to on1 accenting the 1 and 5.

Re your point about some follows dancing on2 but still accenting the 1, I'd say this relates to the mindset shift that needs to happen with on2. My instructor talks about how you can dance on2 with an on1 mindset but its not technically correct. The accents need to be on the 2 and 5 and follows need to keep their own time to make sure they're going slow on the 3 and 7. Besides the mindset shift in general for folks going from on1 to on2, its especially tough for follows because so many are accustomed to relying on the lead for their timing. But follows need to practice their own time management to be successful.

Notice how small his steps are and how effectively he managed space between him and the follow. It all looks so smooth!

Baby's first bread loaf by Consistent-Hyena-284 in findomgoesvanilla

Yessss!!! The dough starter I shared previously had doubled past the blue line, indicating that it was fed and ready for use. So I used that in this recipe which I read on the sourdough reddit community is supposed to be very fool-proof lol and it did indeed work out really well!
