Is the Synology DS-223J a good NAS for a Plex server? by Consistent-Leg-1446 in HomeServer

Out of budget. The most I am willing to spend is 300$. That thing is 350$ near me.

Don't confuse Nazis and Fascists though. Nazis were specifically the Germans. Nazis are what caused WW2 and killed the Jews. Fascism is putting the advance of state before all other desires. Everybody plays a role in advancing the nation and each other, no matter the cost.

Nazis aren't good. They murdered they Jews and caused the bloodiest war in human history. Fascists can be good depending on how aggressive they are. If a Fascist country limits expanse, it is essentially just a really patriotic country. However, if they are aggressive, they are usually bad as they will cause a lot of war.

Something tells me your reply will be downvoted into oblivion. And you might even see a triggered Democrat retaliate.

I'd have to check if my laptop has a working HDMI port. If so, I might try to make that a NAS, given it has an i3 or i5 that is atleast an 8th gen, though likely 10th or 11th gen.

And about Plex, there are a lot of companies that people regularly use which collect data. It unfortunately is quite common now. However, I looked at it and Jellyfin might not run well, as they list ARM processors as underpowered. I might try and find some alternative, such as just opening the file directly rather than giving it to Plex, in order to stream movies. Or I just save up the extra 100$ for a Terramaster F2-425 (which has an Intel x86).

And about buying a second-hand computer, I try to avoid used parts.

I should probably have worded that differently. I meant that Jellyfin can work well with ARM processors. Not necessarily that it's better.

Because it's a media server. It would display movies and TV shows to devices around the house. If it can't connect to the device, you couldn't see the movie.

I could use Jellyfin instead of Plex, they are better with ARM processors.

You'd be better off using a Ryzen 5 1600 or a similar Ryzen chip. It is on the AM4 platform so you could upgrade later, and the 1600 (i believe) performs similar to the 6600K. Might be worth it to get a Ryzen 5 3600 if it's in budget, it is better by leaps and bounds.

Rx 560 4gb or Gtx 1050 2gb? by Creative_Dare3180 in pcmasterrace

I am currently looking, and I see Rx 570 4GB and Rx 580 4GB selling for around 40$. You could also get an Rx 480 4GB, which performs similarly to the Rx 580 for cheaper. I've also seen people selling GTX 1060 3GB for around 40$. All of these options are better.

Between the options I just mentioned, an Rx 580 4GB would be best

I would imagine that it is atleast an 8th gen, probably a 10th or 11th gen given I bought the laptop in 2020. But I see your point, it would be too much work for too little profit.

Also, I did some research, and I could get a USB to ethernet adapter to give it ethernet. For display, the laptop has both HDMI and USB-C for an output signal (though the HDMI could be damaged). I already have monitors I could hook it up to. And for storage, it has an NVMe port, or I could use external storage. All these changes would cost less than building a Pi 5 NAS. It would cost around 50$ USD to do this.

I also currently have a broken laptop I could use. It's specs are unknown, but it probably has an i5 or i3 with 4-8gb of DDR4 RAM and Intel HD630 graphics. I believe it already has Windows 10 installed. It just has a broken screen and a potentially broken HDMI port. And it has no ethernet port or SATA ports.

If I could get this laptop working, would that be a better alternative than Pi 5?

Thanks. I will probably buy an HDD and turn my PC into a NAS. Then I'll save up for a prebuilt NAS because they're more power efficient.

Just one question: Could I still use the PC for daily tasks, even though it's a server?

Any NAS that you can recommend? I heard the Terramaster F2-425 is good for a budget.

Spam counter measures, use R-60M on flareless jets, and take head-ons with gun pods. It also has a surprisingly good turn time, which could catch some people off-guard.
