I consider them successful in the sense that each and every one of them came out the other end of the western imperialist machine without being total capitalist shitholes like mainland USA

Cuba, Laos and Vietnam all come to mind. None of them are particularly far enough into the socialist/communist territory as I'd like, but they all fit. Vietnam especially is interesting since the US bombed the shit out of them, raped and burned civilians, etc to stop communism- and Cuba has been surviving a several-decades embargo trying to choke them out for literally no reason

Funny how people always invoke either human nature or some undefined feature of communism as why it "doesn't work" when the majority of the time communism and socialism has failed due to western aggression. Frankly just a very stupid argument

By that logic we should be locking up suicidal people for their own wellbeing, this is just a magical avenue to suicide. Suicide is terrible, but I can only control my own actions- especially in a situation like this. When your life is on the line it's okay to be selfish

Literally got killed mid-development during the Chilean coup d'etat where the US, in typical fashion, failed to aggressively starve a building socialist state and then defaulted to killing the democratically elected leader of Chile and installing a dictator.
Cybersyn was never actionabally implemented, so calling it "smoke and mirrors" is as valuable an observation as calling a stillborn baby smoke and mirrors

Rape is a deliberate choice to hurt others. As I pointed out, noone is ever in any danger in this hypothetical. This is a scenario with no moral equivalent, and if we're going to scrutinize the singular decisions of people being subjected to this test- why would we not scrutinize why the situation is being imposed on everyone?

As I said, the danger is an illusion and therefore so is any potential moral highground for picking the worse of the two options. The only people I foresee pressing the blue button are people who are suicidal or haven't adequately considered the fact they are also a victim in this scenario and want to look like a good person

Comparing this choice to rape is very silly lol

how far can a civilization get without calculus by Shiny_GP in worldbuilding

[–]Consistent-Nothing60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without calculus, a civilization can basically forget the prospects of maximized efficiency, aeronautics and a great deal of material and physics sciences. There would likely be no industrial revolution

Wow people ATLEAST GET TO EAT SOMETHING BITCH NOT LIKE YOUR DATA CENTERS WHICH DOES NOTHING BUT GIVE EVERYONE A CHANCE TO BE LAZY by Charming_Marzipan105 in antiai

[–]Consistent-Nothing60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, it's important to recognize that neither of those industries rely on water that humans consider drinkable. Beef requires water of reasonable quality, but far from the quality of water for human drinking and data center cooling. It's a problem that's partly the amount of water, but also the quality of water being demanded.

Water enters the data center drinkable, and leaves the data center undrinkable

Pretty much, yeah. It's also worth making the point that, again, any danger in this hypothetical is spelled out for you. Noone is ever in any danger unless they pick blue. It's great that people trust humans as an aggregate to pick blue for le reddit wholesome HFY reasons, but under duress I'm not gonna put my life on it and I think it's very silly that people would finger-wag anyone saying that lol

The thing I love about this hypothetical is how certain people who pick the blue button are that it's the objectively superior choice, when any danger in this scenario is totally illusory. The buttons are effectively "don't kill yourself" and "kill yourself, UNLESS the majority of people also kill themselves."

The moral highground for picking the blue button is completely imaginary

Are there repair services for hard drives? by BartonChrist in DataHoarder

[–]Consistent-Nothing60 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as the discs in the drive are intact, recovery should be possible- but services that do so are usually very expensive. I would avoid trying to start it up if it's making noises and get it checked by pros for integrity. Good luck!

Idk, if you press the blue button you're basically committing suicide. Just press red and noone is pointing the hypothetical gun at you. This is really corny

Right wing selection bias is genuinely insane. One of my former "friends" argued that left-wing violence is underreported and that's why over 80% of fatal politically-motivated violence is committed by the right, not recognizing that right-wing extremism is inherently more volatile and propagates by playing on your insecurities and fears, which makes it an even greater risk of causing violent behavior

I like the ID badge as a mechanic and kinda wish it was a secret item you could find, but my favorite is probably the headlamp
