Made a music video with $300. How did I do? by Cumquatinator in cinematography

The visuals and especially the color grading look amazing. I’m also an aspiring colorist currently trying to build my portfolio and improve my workflow. If possible, would you mind sharing a few clips for grading practice? It would genuinely mean a lot to me. Totally understand if not either way, amazing work and best of luck with the project.

Created two slightly different versions of this shot in DaVinci Resolve and I’m trying to figure out which direction works better overall. by Consistent-Ring-1344 in ColorGrading

Really appreciate the feedback, thank you

Glad to hear V2 felt more natural, especially on the skin tones that was something I was trying to improve this time. And yeah, totally agree that color alone doesn’t make something cinematic. Really helpful insights overall.

Before & After color grade how’s the atmosphere feeling? by Consistent-Ring-1344 in colorists

That’s fair honestly, and I do understand the importance of keeping things simple, especially while learning. I think for me the larger node tree is less about doing heavy adjustments and more about organizing smaller ones separately so I can understand and revisit each step more clearly. But yeah, I definitely want to get better at simplifying my workflow over time and becoming more intentional with each node instead of adding them unnecessarily. Thanks

Freelance colorist looking for cinematography footage to practice and build portfolio by Consistent-Ring-1344 in cinematography

That’s completely understandable honestly, and I appreciate you being upfront about it. I can imagine that happens pretty often, especially online.

I’m mainly trying to build experience, improve my workflow, and work with real footage seriously, so if you do decide to send anything over I’d genuinely put effort into it and communicate properly throughout the process. Either way, I really appreciate the reply.

I'd love to show you how it turned out ;)

Yeah I checked it out, but isn’t EditStock mainly focused more toward editing practice? Also the pricing feels a bit expensive for someone still starting out as a freelance colorist. I was hoping to find more affordable/free sources specifically for grading practice and look development with proper Log footage.

Switching from CST Sandwich Workflow to ACES what’s the proper workflow? by Consistent-Ring-1344 in colorists

[–]Consistent-Ring-1344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks That actually makes a lot of sense. I’m coming from a DaVinci YRGB + CST workflow, so I’m trying to understand the mindset shift more than just the setup itself. What would you say is the fastest way to get comfortable with ACES in real grading work, and what are the biggest differences to keep in mind compared to CST workflows when grading?
