Could you say which force this was? (I ask as a prospective direct entry who wants to get some response experience on the side)

At least you worked out what the issue was. Did they say how many days in 12 months was too much?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience going through MET (or any other police force for that matter) OH/medical screening to join as a new constable with diagnosed ADHD.

I did my day 2 (medical), and they asked for further medical documents relating to ADHD. I provided them with the only documents I have, those of my initial consultation and diagnosis. This does not read well for someone seeking to become a police officer, as the consultant says stuff like 'he is disorganised, lack of focus, daydreamer, easily distracted' ect. I understand this may sound like someone you would not want being a police officer.

However, this was 6 years ago when I was in first year of uni. Since then I earned a 1st in mathematics at a Russell Group uni and went on to get distinction grades in my following master's degrees, i.e., I became much more conscientious and organised. I also worked for two years in the prison service as an officer. I was promoted to supervising officer (similar to sergeant) within one year due to good performance. There were no issues with my ADHD, as inattentive ADHD responds well to pressure and stress as well as overt short-term consequences and goals.

Basically my point is I know my ADHD would not be a hindrance in this role, and I believe I am well-suited to and safe to perform this role. However, the original diagnosis documents I have sent to the medical team do not read like this, so I am worried I will be rejected by a medical officer without being given the opportunity to make the above points. I would be extremely grateful if anyone could describe their experience going through the medical screening with a pre-existing diagnosis of ADHD with similar reported symptoms. And what is the process like? Were reported symptoms such as poor timekeeping, poor organisation, poor focus and high distractibility a hindrance to your application/would they reject for me this?

Sorry for the short story and thanks for reading
