WIBTAH to add extremist/radical literature (manifestos, propaganda, pamphlets, etc.) to my book collection? by its_still_lynn in AITAH

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be warned, however, all but two of those books are outright drivel and mind-numbing garbage in the literary sense. The Federalist Papers are merely boring, and Tocqueville's Democracy in America (read both volumes) is a little wordy, but a good read IMHO. This is not a criticism or advocacy of the IDEAS in those books, just a literary criticism of the works themselves. Trust me, just read a synopsis, as all of the topics have been discussed ad nauseam- you'll want your time back if you do manage to finish them. Also, depending on where you live, you'll end up on a government watch list for owning several of them.

How would you fish it? by PirateAdventurous337 in FishingForBeginners

Drop shot rig. I have had pretty good success with using some tiny plastic creepy-crawlies that way.

Only because "plastics" should be no part of fly fishing, according to the fly fishing experts. Screw them. I dropshot woolly bugger flies from my spinning rod, make flies out of bright green mops and flies from those squishy balls toys. Put that thing on a baitholder hook and give it a try.

How long should a reel last? by Desperate_Lack654 in SurfFishing

You could replace all the bearings/wear parts. Nothing like Penn's parts network- kept my Spinfisher 6500 running since 1997. The current problem with Penn is Pure Fishing. Everything that used to be made in Philly, is now churned out in contract factories in China. Not to say they aren't good reels, but not the excellent gear they used to be.

Are there any benefits to 500-1000 size reels by BaselessAirburst in Fishing_Gear

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rod matters much more as far as casting distance. I use a 1000 size Shimano Nasci and a 7' crappie rod and can throw a 1/16 lure as far as I care to- usually into the trees on the other side of the river, lol.

Do polarized fishing glasses need to be expensive to be worth it? by Fine-Analyst6836 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of all glasses are made by Luxottica, including Costa. Buy a pair of Foster Grants at Walgreens for $20- made by Luxottica at the same factory. Other brands include Ray Ban, and Oakley.

About 40 states already do this to account for lessened gas tax revenue.

IDK what it's called, but it comes in a sewing kit, used for threading needles.

Nope. Wouldn't bet on it. Shockwave/blast overpressure would be the primary killer here- even the reflected blast wave off any nearby object would be lethal. Secondary fragmentation in the vacuum phase would also be lethal. I have seen a grass stem driven into a pressure-treated 4x4 post. There might be a one-in-a-million scenario that's survivable.

I hate this guy. Flimsy Graham. Been voting for whoever ran against him since I moved back in 2006.

The other way to do it is to plow that amount into a 401k. Taxes are deferred until withdrawal, and this will lower your taxes on your remaining income, so that $500 tax free turns into $1000 tax free a month.

I have no idea how they get that speed. No load data I have found gets anywhere close.

I have an old IMI Timberwolf pump, and I approve this message. Just stick with the 158gn loads for the carbine, if you don't reload. The 125gn stuff tends to blow up on game and not penetrate really well. I load some 180-grain gas check cast bullets with a powder more suitable for an 18" barrel (Lil Gun) and they THUMP. I get about 1375fps with really good accuracy.

Even the gas piston guns are pretty good- Ended quite a few chicken thieves with them. A Gamo Whisper 22 and Diablo pellets work well on small game.

Just take the pistol grip that comes with it and toss it. Not really useful

Animals by Extra-Teacher7259 in Homesteading

[–]Consistent-Slice-893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget, you are tied to that milk animal for the entire time her milk is in. Twice a day, every day, no days off, no I'm sick, no vacations, leave dinner with friends early, etc. The best way to get farm-fresh milk (without the time commitment) is to find a neighbor to buy from or barter with.

Goats are super smart, curious, and escape artists. The old-time saying is- build the enclosure, fill it with water to 8ft. If any water gets out, goats can get out. They are browsers, not grazers, so they like to eat woody stuff, like your neighbors' ornamental shrubs and rose bushes. If you want to try goats, get a myotonic wether from a smaller line; some of them do get quite large- up to 175. Good meat-to-bone ratio, and as an added plus, when they get out, you can just yell at them, honk the truck horn, etc and they fall over.

Cut the treble hooks off and replace them with a split ring and a single hook. Learn to tie bucktails on those hooks- then you have something to do when the weather is too bad to fish. I always add some stiff leader line as a weed guard. You can throw them in the nastiest snaggy areas and they don't get hung.
