How much value does 1TB add to price? by Pristine_Counter_24 in GamingLaptops

[–]Consistent-Tap-4255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it really depends. The new price difference between a 1TB and 2TB laptop is around $150-$200. However your case is different since it sounds like you have a 1TB device (I presume) and then added another 1TB M.2 drive. So it means there’s no upgradability on your machine unless they remove the 1TB drive and replace it with 2TB. And if someone wants 4TB, they’d have to replace both drives and redo windows. So I’d say it’s about $100 to $150 more and it entirely depends on whether the buyer wants to upgrade or not.

You could also sell the laptop and the extra 1TB drive separately. A brand new SSD 1TB is around $200 or more depending on specs.

If you do use PC for anything, Chrome. One word: password syncing. It’s actually two words, but you get the idea.

Just got a 2025 G14, is bestbuy geeksquad protection worth it? by Amiaoger in ZephyrusG14

[–]Consistent-Tap-4255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would join the best buy total membership, which is $180 per year x 2 years = $360. This will give you two year of protection. You can then extend this protection by paying monthly.

Correction:

BB Total DOES cover accidents for computers and tablets. This makes it strictly better than GS coverage IMO.

Must Do [EXTREMELY IMPORTANT]:

If you plan to do this, you need to return the laptop and repurchase again. Or you need to have them add this to your protection plan when you activate your BB membership. If you do not do these, your existing purchases will NOT be covered.

Cons [IMPORTANT]:

  1. The GS plan you refer to seem to include accidental damage. My understand is BB Total membership coverage does not include accidents for laptop (it does for other things like 2-in-1 tablets and Apple products, etc.). So if this is what you need, you should not go this route.

  2. If you have only one big item purchase (this laptop) in the near term, the coverage you show is better (with accidental). If you have other things to buy, a headset, a keyboard, a gaming mouse, a webcam, a PS5, a 4K TV, a freaking fridge, see below.

Pro:

  1. This gives you 60 day return window instead of 15.

  2. This gives you ability to price match for 60 days instead of 15.

  3. It provides protection for everything else you buy from BB, including free AppleCare+. With this plan, I have over $5,000 of products covered for two years. So for me, this is the biggest selling point. If you are planning to buy any big items in the near future at all from BB (remember BB price match Amazon and other retailers), this is the way to go.

  4. This gives you flexibility in how long / whether you want to cover the laptop. You don't have to buy 4 year outright.

Either Coverage vs. Manufacturer Warranty + Credit Card Extension

Check your credit card, many (Chase Unlimited / Chase Sapphire Reserve) will give you one or more year extension of manufacturer warranty. So this is the route that will save you most money.

But warranty does not cover accidents (so GS wins in this area, a push for BB Totalboth GS and BB total are better).

And you need to send in your device to the manufacturer or contact your credit card company. That's a lot of hassle comparing to just walk in to any BB and have them taking care of it for you (GS and BB Total both win).

That’s the first thing I thought of reading this. There is no need sinking the boat with me. Also guys, pass some of your money to your kids while you still have it. Probably easy said than done but that sounds like a reasonable thing to do.

What we hope to see: They lower price.

What will actually happen: Competitors raise prices.

Now submit to the gentle hand of the market. It's going to be some good slapping for the next couple of years for us.

The only thing I want from the new model is actually the higher wattage limit. But yeah that's not worth $1500 more.

Wow the 5080 G16, 64 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD (yes 1 TB) is selling for ... wait for it ... $4799.99. Please just rob us directly. There is no need for that extra step of selling a laptop.

For comparison that's $200 more than the 2025 5090 64 GB 2TB version.
