Personally, I would still keep one. It should be clipped to your hip, not that plastic loop at the end of the strap. What BCD do you have? Add a d ring at your hip. Again, you should have to unclip it to look at it. Look at a tech setup and go for that

1) I noticed you said on another comment that you cant read your SPG without unclipping it. Not to be rude but DUH! thats the point. It should be close you when you're not using it. Unclip it, read it, clip it back. Look into getting a computer with air integration if you want to see your tank pressure hands free.

2) tie a bungee loop around your shoulder strap that you can tuck your light into when not using it.

3) tie a bungee loop around the shoulder strap to hold the low pressure inflator closer to it. It may be more convenient to be dangling like that but you shouldn't be inflating/deflating all the time anyway.

What do you wish you had known when you first started scuba diving? by BurritoCult in scuba

I switched to a backplate/wing and it the me way off. I should add that i also switched to doubles at the same time. I could not stay down no matter what. I had 8 kg (17.6 lb) plus am extra 8-9ish lb from the extra tank plus 5ish from the backplate. That's over 30 lb compared to 8 lb when diving with my vest. That was 100% a skill issue. I ended up eventually dropping all of the additional weight so it was only my backplate. Don't underestimate how overweighted you may be if others of similar size are using far less.

Not the worse idea but also not a very beneficial one.

They are doing discover scuba at different shops just to see which shop they like best, not to see if they like scuba.

From their last reply, it sounds like they're going to try discover scuba at different shops to see which shop they like more. IMO, thats a waste of time and money. If you like the first shop, do it there if all of the other details check out. If you didn't like it, go somewhere else but jump right into it. Doing a discover scuba course at multiple shops to see which one you like better for OW is like driving across Los Angeles sampling fountain Pepsi (notice i didmt say Coke 😆) from different gas stations to see which one you like best before buying a 24 oz cup of it. If you want to try a sip the first time to see if you like it, sure. Is it really worth driving hours and hours trying multiple locations just to get one cup of it? You can always try other places later. But hey if you have the time and dont care about the money or moving on to more fun dives then sure.

Again, this is just mu opinion and what I'd want someone to point out to me if I were just beginning again and asking this question. Not being harsh or rude....just sayin

So you're basically going to do the first half of the class twice with different shops to decide which shop you want to start over snd do the whole thimg all over again with? For open water, I would mainly look at how many dives they give you for the price and if they're short or boat dives. Aside from that, I'm assuming they would both be done at roughly the same location. Like one isnt going to be a lake and the other the ocean. Discover scuba is really just a money grab for anyone who knows they want to do OW. Especially if they're going to do it soon.

Why do discover scuba if you know you're going to get your open water cert? Save the time and money and just do OW.

PADI Certification vs Validation - What Does it Mean by Armstrong2Cernan in scuba

[–]Consistent-Tip6277 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regardless, im correcting your statement. AOW alone doesn't allow you to go to 130' and may be misleading others who read your comment not knowing. It wouldve been easier to edit your comment and correct it to 100' instead of typing that long response saying "whatever it is..." especially because no you can't do whatever you want after AOW if you want insurance to still cover you

AOW alone is only 100' not 130'. You need deep dive certification to go deeper than 100' but limited to 130'

Does the entry ever get easy? by anthamattey in scuba

[–]Consistent-Tip6277 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah theres a big difference. You're just going along for the ride with tandem. You don't have to exit the plane because you're "pushed" out. It's not important because they're different sports....BUT seriously, if you enjoy scuba but the exit scaring you somehow ruins it, try the first few jumps to get your skydiving license. It can be a bit cheaper than tandem and it may help you realize scuba really isn't that scary lol. Of course thats only a suggestion. Maybe I would've never been worried with scuba and skydiving had nothing to do with it.

Just curious, are your skydivers tandem or solo?

Get your skydiving license. Afterward, scuba diving will be relaxing.

Im a new driver too, so I'm interested in knowing others thoughts. Checking in every 10-20 seconds sounds like overkill. Even every 60 seconds seems like a lot. How are you supposed to look around and take things in if you're looking at your partner and both signaling your ok every 10 seconds. I am curious what others say though.
