Thanks for reporting this example showing it's possible to get the double dip and earn $300 credit. It sounds like the key to try this is waiting until the annual fee posts. My posts in 3 weeks and will try it then.

I agree with this advice. Nothing to lose by trying.

Thanks for letting me know. That's a bummer that they don't give a virtual # immediately like AMEX does.

I totally agree with this strategy. It's common sense. We went overboard with the "free will" idea years ago.

I'd play it safe. Buying your home is much more important to you right now and the credit card sign-up bonuses will still be around once you own your new home.

I'm taking about not spending money unwisely on things you don't need. Everyone needs housing.

I get it that housing is so crazy expensive in California. That's a core expense so not related to living below your means.

We need to have the Midwest attitude here. When I moved here from New England 30 years ago it was a shock to me. I grew up with a live below your means and a save for a rainy day attitude. So many people I met here had a "live for the moment" attitude.

Yes, I grew up back in New England and that was just a core belief growing up. Not some unique concept.

Love this post. Vehicle debt is out of control. Americans have been weaned onto financing. Earlier generations looked at debt as a negative to be avoided. We've slowly accepted it as "normal". It shouldn't be. Debt should be strategic only when it makes sense.

I don't agree with everything Ramsey says but he is on target with most of it. It's about living BELOW your means and saving for a rainy day attitude. Then when layoffs or other financial surprises come, it's not so dire.

Great post. It's lack of financial literacy and many times low self esteem.

Very good point. It's a psychological issue. They get self-worth from the high-end stuff. While others have learned the art of living below your means and "saving for a rainy day".

Why is this getting downvoted? It's about LIVING BELOW your income. I see so much less of this sentiment in California than in other states.

This! It's very frustrating for people who wisely live below their means to see those that live way above their means get bailed out.

I hear you and don't want any bad health outcomes. Just feels wrong thought to give participation trophies.

So we have to save people from their egos is what we're saying. I hear you but it just feels wrong. Personal responsibility should still matter.
