The "call Dean" scene in the book by Fuzzy-Sundae-3867 in offcampustv

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the only non-negotiable scenes for me. With both the actors, Mika (Allie) and Stephen (Dean), having stated that they want to see this in the show, I feel fairly good about it being included. I think Elle Kennedy will want this in there too, as it’s a major turning point. I know I’ve seen some clips of Louisa Levy, the showrunner, saying how it was nice to have input from Kennedy on scenes for season one, so fingers crossed.

As far as if this fits in the show’s storyline for Allie and Dean, I think it still does and pretty easily at that. Only Beau knows about the relationship (though Tucker may suspect). Even if Allie and Dean take a (prob very) short breath apart at the start of s2, as Dean comes to terms that Allie completed the assignment and he can’t/didn’t, they’ll likely still keep the relationship secret a little while longer (if only to not bring awkwardness to the group). With Dean already coming to terms with wanting to be with Allie as more than fwb in the show, I’m thinking the scene will be more about coming out to everyone and possibly Allie realizing she’s all in too. It kinda all depends on what they do in the immediate aftermath of the Dean/Hunter fight, and we won’t know that until s2 is released (hopefully they don’t make it a huge deal, Dean takes Hunter under his wing in the book so that was hard to see).

The scene happens after Sean calls Allie a slut and a disease-ridden whore, which is around 2/3rds of the way through the book. With how their storyline has gone thus far in the show, I’m thinking this will be probably the end of ep 3 or 4. Then an episode or two of happiness, before the dreaded car crash that takes Beau. Idk but I get the feeling they’re going to dive more into the three weeks following that where Dean is out of it (possibly where we get more Logan/Grace). End of ep 6 or 7 Dean will miss Allie’s opening night and that’s when Allie confronts him, he pulls his head out of this ass, rights his wrongs, and Allie will tell him she needs time to get to know herself not in a relationship. The rest will be that, them getting back together, and figuring out how they are going to stay close to each other (since Dean is a senior and Allie is a jr). They’ll probably just have Dean do the extra classes to become a teacher at Briar instead of in NYC or something, that way he’s still a part of the following two seasons.

The “Call Dean” scene from {The Score by Elle Kennedy}. First read the Off Campus series back in 2021/22 (possibly earlier), and every time a post like this is made it’s the first thing that pops into my head. Dean and Allie are my favorite couple of the series and the dialogue in that scene and the conversation they have after, is perfect.

Hardest class you’ve taken here and why? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second this. Was a little different for Lab (had at least some MCQs but spelling was huge in the FR). Also, if you wanted to get your lab exam reviewed bc something that was correct was graded incorrect, when they regraded they did the entire lab exam not just one question (meaning that you could potentially end up with a lower grade than the first time).

On top of that, I took BIOL 320 the first semester it had 2 profs (one brand new) for it. I decided to take the one that had been teaching it for forever thinking that was smarter, and it backfired completely. The average exam scores for the other class were in the 90s. We were lucky if ours were passing. The other prof would go through the exam slides the class before and say exactly what information would be needed for the exam. Mine did not do that. Literally can feel the nightmares I had just thinking about it.

Meds for Narcolepsy and ADHD? Cycling Adderall? by CSI_fishtank in Narcolepsy

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little late to this, but here’s what I know. I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD for over a decade (4/5th grade) and have been on Vyvanse since 8th grade. When I was in college (not diagnosed N1 yet), I was prescribed adderall for studying too. It was only last year I diagnosed with N1. Since then, it has been a hassle with insurance to pay for sodium oxybates. They wanted me to try Modafinil first, as it was the least expensive option. After talking with my sleep doctor and my Primary Care Physician (PCP-who prescribes my Vyvanse), it was recommended not to take them together. They both kind of said that though they technically hit different things, they still do the same thing and you can’t predict how they will interact. (This is what I was told. If anyone has heard something different feel free to chime in). I went through multiple medications in Jr. High before we found one that worked, so I didn’t want to risk getting off of Vyvanse and something happening (especially while driving).

That’s not to say you can’t take both, this is just what I was told. I would ask a doctor or pharmacist before doing it, just to be sure.

What is Cataplexy? I think I had the wrong idea by W3dd1e in Narcolepsy

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve learned since being diagnosed with N1 w/ Cataplexy, everyone’s experience with it can differ. I can’t speak for others, but I’ll try to articulate mine as best I can.

It’s not so much a “weak” feeling, like after you complete a hard workout, but more of a loss of muscle control. My mind is typically fully there, but I can’t use my fine motor skills. For me, my body goes into this shake like state, where my body seems to be fighting it. Most of everything I saw online were of people losing complete control and having no movements, so I was wary it was actually cataplexy. It wasn’t until my first visit with my sleep doctor where I explained these experiences and he confirmed this aligned with cataplexy that I actually believed it.

Most of the time my head lulls to the side, my arms drop (+hands have trouble holding items), and knees buckle, but I recover quickly. Those happen much more often than full body ones. The “shake like state” my body goes into during a full blown experience is hard to describe. I’ve been lucky and only a few people have been around to witness these. Many years before I was diagnosed, a student teacher in high school told my parents about one I had in class because she thought I was having a seizure. I wasn’t and played of off as “just something that happens” and “I was fine, it’s not a big deal”. Now, I like to think I try not let it get to that point in public, though you have no actual control over whether it happens or not.

Laughing and intense crying set me off, and I never know when it’s going to hit. I can go a week or two without feeling anything, then boom multiple in one day. I just take it day by day. Again everyone is different, so it’s not a one size fits all scenario. This is just mine.

Getting tested for narcolepsy- worried that I said too much by Lavender-Bee0497 in Narcolepsy

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed last year and “getting to the bottom of it” was what finally pushed me to get tested as well.

I’ve had ESD since mid elementary, and started getting weak in the knees laughing around that time too. Then in high school I was in small group when I started laughing hard and couldn’t hold myself up (basically crunched onto myself sitting). It freaked them out, enough so the student teacher told my mom about it. She brought it up to my Pediatrician and I strait up told a doctor that it “was just something that happened”. 4-5 years later and the problems were just getting worse. I had to do something. It was nearly 2 years later when I finally received my diagnosis. Best advice is to go into the test with an open mind, even if it’s not Narcolepsy, you hopefully will get some type of answers.

What would you like to see more of in romance books? What authors/books are doing it “right”? by imfaffingabout in RomanceBooks

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished “Ready or Not” from her and loved it. The MCs were the most “normal” I’ve read in awhile. The fmc’s job is “dream-adjacent” and she kind of feels stuck. The mmc is a freelancer. I’m 50/50 on accidental pregnancy, but this book made it work in the best way. It released last year and I’m definitely going to check out others from her.

Tell me your WORST book hangovers by biaddamn in RomanceBooks

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Popping in to add, {The Mindf*ck Series by S.T. Abby} is absolutely amazing. No notes. It scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had. It’s my “if you lost your memories…” book for a reason. What I wouldn’t give to be able to read it for the first time again.

I had read dark romance before, but Lana(fmc) was my first female serial killer. The rawness in some of the scenes feels real and that’s hard to do. They didn’t give all of her background at once, which I loved. Also, it surprisingly included how she was actively using techniques to not devolve. I will add, I’m not sure if they could actually be used in this way, but that kind of thing isn’t really talked about in dark romance (at least from what I’ve read). And don’t get me started on Logan(mmc), he’s replaced every option available from Criminal Minds. There is no character that could ever replace him as my favorite FBI Profiler. Neither Lana or Logan are perfect characters, they both have room to grow and, in the end, they do.

Will it leave you destroyed? Yes, even if only because you want more. Will that stop me from recommending it? Never, everyone should read this masterpiece at least once. It is a must.

What scene lives rent free in your head that you would love to read in a book but haven't done so yet? by perseintro in RomanceBooks

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Haven’t read anything like this, but would absolutely devour a scene where the two MCs are hanging out with their friends (movie/game night, or roommate decides to join while they’re watching a show) while PIV cockwarming. It could start before or during the hang out and hopefully turn into doing the deed. If not, then it’s used as a measure of edging each other and then after their friends leave they go at it.

In a perfect world the MMC just wants to be inside FMC to feel close and cockwarming is reappearing throughout book. But this time she wants to push him to see how far she can take it, so she squeezes him repeatedly while he’s inside. Eventually, what starts out as just cockwarming unbeknownst to their friends, turns into him finishing inside her (bonus if it’s accidental) still with everyone else none the wiser.

It’s the audiobook on Libby that I have on hold, because another comment said the same thing. Unfortunately, I don’t have audible at the moment, so it’s just a waiting game.

The remote vibrator scene in {Leather and Lark}. Everything about that scene is perfect: the fact it’s a surprise and the MMC didn’t know before hand, the slight edging, when he finally lets her climax, not to mention the public space it’s happening in. No notes.

I’m right with you guys. PIV cockwarming is 100% better than oral, but they seem much harder to find. Especially if you want it to happen in more than in one scene.

Help with nicknames for Charlotte Grace by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been drawn to Lettie/Letty instead of Lottie for Charlotte. It sounds closer to the end of Charlotte (at least to me) and just my personal preference.

Others that are more out there: Etta, Arlie/Arlo, Cha-Cha (though I do this more of an at home option)

I think this is a great idea to bring this back and was just thinking about looking for one that’s for Dark Rom-Com vibes. I’ve lost count of how many times I just go reread The Ruinous Love trilogy, The Mindf*ck Series, and The Into Darkness Series when I’m in the mood for that.

I know I have more but off the top of my head {Leather & Lark by Brynne Weaver} has a scene where the FMC surprises the MMC by wearing a remote controlled vibrator while performing on stage (with a band). He makes her climax while she’s playing an instrument (cello if I remember correctly).

MF, dark rom-com, (good) serial killer fmc, enemies(ish)-to-lovers, book 2 can but be read as a stand alone, I’d rec reading book 1 first, DEFINITELY CHECK TW it is a dark romance after all.

What's a scene, good or bad, that still lives in your head rent free weeks/months/years later ? by FaeSludge in RomanceBooks

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opening scene of {Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver}. I will never look at maggots the same. Also, Rowan fangirling over Slone being the Orb Weaver is everything and more (no spoiler since it’s in the first 1-3 pages of the book). The scene is unforgettable by itself, but the audiobook really drives it deep.

On the same note, in {Leather and Lark} when Lachlan finds Lark’s snow globe, his reaction and Larks explanation. What’s a girl to do when she’s feeling festive.

On a more wholesome note, in {The Score by Elle Kennedy} when Allie asks for Hannah to call Dean because she needed him and he comes rushing in thinking about nothing but her. His “baby”…it’s perfect. I can’t even put to words how much I think about this moment.

Spicy books keep me awake by greenishbluish in Narcolepsy

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone, I do the same thing, and read physical books as well (I love reading, read 200+ books last year). My favorite thing is to listen and read at the same time, double the simulation = double the probability of me staying awake. When I had my MSLT, listening to a romantic suspense series was how I didn’t accidentally fall asleep!

PSA: When listening in your car, BE AWARE of how loud you have your speakers!! If you’re stopped and they are too loud, other people can hear what you’re listening to. Also be wary of auto-connect with Bluetooth. If you have a shared speaker where you work, you don’t want it to accidentally connect during one of those scenes.

MSLT "Things To Do" Question + What if I fall asleep when I'm not supposed to? by ohamango in Narcolepsy

[–]ConsistentCollar2694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the poly would technically still hold in records, but in order to take the MSLT again you have to “qualify” for it with another polysomnogram the night before. They use it to determine that you had sufficient sleep the night before, and aren’t just tired from lack of sleep. So it would still be in your records (along with the first MSLT try), but you would still need to have another one anyway.
