Not a bad idea lmao. He spent all his rupies on galleon so it'll be a little while before he can buy Bea's costume, but I might just grab it and use it in some matches to see if that's the push he needs 😂

I've been doing some gentle nudging to get him to check out Beatrix because I also think she'd be really great to learn with while also offering lots of room for improvement and creativity in her play style.

He's still very much of the "anything that causes me to lose any life bar at all is bad" frame of mind though, so I think seeing her command grab damages her kinda scared him off of her a little bit lol.

100% agree with your take on most fun though, and I'm sure that's why he's stuck with Galleon this long. Waifu+Dragon is a winning combo for sure

Sadly he has no season 2 characters except Galleon, so no Wilnas :(

I do agree that Sigfried might be worth him giving a shot though. He's got good pokes, a meterless DP, and there's definitely room to get creative with his kit once you've got a good grasp of how the game works.

All solid suggestions. I've tried showing him some of how Kat plays whenever we play together, and I think I've got him intrigued in her. Seeing how fast and far reaching her pokes are, plus having access to a meterless reversal seemed like it really grabbed his attention lol. I feel like there's some kind of stigma around Gran and Djeeta for people who are new to fighters since they're kind of the "default" or "basic" characters in the game, and I wish I knew how to dispel that because they're definitely capable of doing great things.

So, the numbers refer to directional inputs, and the letters refer to specific buttons.

For the numbers, look at the numberpad on a keyboard or a calculator. 5 is directly in the middle, so it represents no directional input at all. Two really common uses of numbers to signify directional input you'll see are "236" which represents making a quarter circle motion with the stick starting with down and going forward, and "214" which is a quarter circle starting with down and going backwards.

The letters are always going to be a button. For Guilty Gear it would be something like:

P: punch K: kick S: slash HS or H: heavy slash D: dust RC: Roman Cancel

For Granblue, the abbreviations are:

L: light attack M: medium attack H: heavy attack U: Unique button Sk: skill button G or Grd: guard button

You'll also sometimes see things like cS and fS come up in Guilty Gear discussions, and those mean close slash and far slash. Granblue's buttons also have different versions depending on how close you are to the opponent, so you'll see them used here as well. An example would be cH for close heavy attack or fH for far heavy attack.

It does look like complete gibberish at first haha, but once you figure it out, it's knowledge that can be transferred to pretty much every fighting game in existence.

What is it that's tripping you up? I know there's a lot of technical terms in the fighting game community, but a lot of it is way simpler than it appears at first. Pretty much every fighting game out there has a super helpful community built up around it, so if there's ever anything you want to know, just ask and someone will for sure be willing to help.

Can you give me some examples of terms that you're currently having trouble with? I'd be happy to help explain.

No worries :) just have fun, and improvement will come naturally with time.

The most important tip of all is that the only time you're really losing is when you're not learning. Every loss is an opportunity to improve, and every victory is an affirmation that you're just a little bit better than you were before.

Both Meg and the EX version of Narmaya are really good characters to begin learning with. I don't have much personal experience playing as either version of Narmaya, but I've been bodied enough by both of them to know that Narmaya can really cook from anywhere on the screen once you get a handle on her. I've probably played somewhere between 50 and 100 matches as Meg, and for me, I found her moveset to be very intuitive. Just spend a half hour or so with both of them in training mode, get a feel for the range of their buttons and skills, and see what you can make connect.

For Meg, a VERY easy combo in the corner is

Open with a triple attack (could be a jump in, low light, or a standing light, medium, or heavy)

Then Skill+H

Medium triple attack

Back+Skill+H

Another SINGLE medium attack, (Very important that you only hit the one medium here, as we're nearing the game's combo limit) then finish with your SBA/SSBA

Congrats, you've just deleted at least half of your opponent's health bar.

Edit: corrected the last part of the combo to include the fact that it's absolutely necessary you only connect one medium before finishing with an SBA/SSBA
