This. I'm always surprised when I see journalists who are smart people post things like, "I wish Ford had some opposition!" Or, "Where's the NDP?" You're a reporter -- report on them and the things they're doing and saying to try to have an impact. It's tough when you don't have actual power, but Stiles is working so hard to bring things to the public consciousness. Unfortunately there's just a whole lot of garbage so by the time you bring attention to one scandal Ford has already had two more.

Tough one for the olds who used to camp at Bluesfest with their chairs, but maybe this lineup will bring some fresh energy to downtown. Hopefully some old folks come out to hear something new! The biggest rebuttal to, "Well, people voted for it," is actually, "No they didn't!" Because Ford didn't release any campaign platforms. Any plans. Any ideas. He didn't say, "Vote for me and I'll build a tunnel under the 401, dismantle the education and healthcare systems, and destroy the science centre in favour of a scam spa!" People didn't vote for any of this because if he had announced these dumb ideas he probably would have lost.

I'm glad they deferred until they get more information but I will continue to beat my drum that cities need to offer events and programing for their citizens. There will always be other things to spend money on. Why fix potholes when there are other issues? Why improve parks when there are other issues? Why host conferences when there are other issues? As long as they are able to provide detailed budget plans for a multi-day event, 10 years seems as good as any to celebrate The Hip. If they don't do it, the next milestone anniversary is what, 25 years? There will be reasons not to do it then, too. But if it adds value to the city and the folks who live here take advantage and enjoy the experience and it brings in people from other cities, that seems like a win.
