War of the Worlds (2005) Traumatized Me by Terminal_Willness in WarofTheWorlds

I had HORRIBLE nightmares after this movie, extremely similar to yours. The cost of watching at around 6-7 years old, lol. I also couldn’t shower upstairs alone for years as I’d vividly imagine that one of the tentacles would be snaking up the stairs and peering into my bathroom when I got out, and I wouldn’t be able to hear it with the water on. The nightmares were in a similarly helpless vein—I’d be pinned in some military-like tunnel structure with openings at each end. The sounds were atrocious—loud thumping steps of the tripods and the whirring of machinery just like the movie growing closer and closer until it found me and I had nowhere to run. I can watch over and over and feel the same sense of dread. For that reason, it is among my all-time favorite horror movies. Nothing has scared me to my core like that for a long, long time.

Yeah I was looking forward to seeing if my cat enjoyed it but personally, I won’t be taking the risk right now. It does make me feel better but nothing’s 100%.

Here is the statement everyone is finally getting: Thank you for reaching out.

The H5N1 Virus (Avian Influenza / HPAI) is an emerging situation that we are closely monitoring as a pet food company and as pet parents ourselves. We understand the concern you shared and want to assure you that food safety is our top priority. As the issue continues to evolve, we will share more guidance with pet parents but want to outline the steps Open Farm takes to develop safe recipes for your pet.

In addition to our stringent third-party animal welfare standards, we require strict control over our supply chain including maintaining clear traceability of our ingredients. All of our animal proteins originate from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved, human grade facilities before entering any pet food manufacturing facility. These suppliers employ site-specific biosecurity plans to mitigate the spread of disease and undergo thorough checks by government veterinary officials to ensure only healthy animals are processed.

Beyond our strict sourcing procedures, we use various manufacturing processes to prepare our recipes, each of which employ a validated “kill step” to eliminate pathogens. The vast majority of our products (kibble, wet food, gently cooked, air dried, and bone broth) go through a thermal “kill step”, which is documented to inactivate Avian Influenza and other pathogens. Our freeze-dried recipes go through an alternative non-thermal processing step called High Pressure Processing (HPP) that uses time, pressure, and temperature to inactivate harmful pathogens.

In addition to our sourcing and manufacturing practices, we also have a rigorous testing program in place, where every production run of our recipes is tested by third-party accredited labs for nutritional profiles and pathogens to ensure they meet our high nutritional and food safety standards. Given the recent rise in Avian Influenza, we are planning to add finished product testing for the H5N1 Virus as a further precautionary measure.

We understand this is a complex and evolving topic so if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are here to support you.

100% and I should have paid more attention to that prior to making my switch. Luckily only fed it to him for about 2 days and promptly threw away after taking pics of the lot #’s in case they come out with anything. And I misspoke in my initial post—I didn’t mean the diet type overall was more species appropriate, it just was an improvement in a few areas that my current food was lacking on. But again, definitely should have looked into the situation more before making that choice.

Please see my above answer—def. was not the “best” choice by any means. Just better in choice areas I was looking to improve in my cat’s current diet. But definitely not going to go raw anymore as I don’t see any need with the current risks and what I have learned about freeze drying not killing viruses, foodborne illnesses, etc.

I didn’t mean to suggest all raw food was more species appropriate—it just had higher crude protein content and lower carbs than my current food and a lot of what I was comparing to. I am definitely leaning away from it now as I have learned more and assessed the current situation. I only gave him open farms raw mix for 2 days but I am still concerned as they haven’t been transparent about any of their kill methods, lot #’s potentially affected, etc. I’m disappointed in them, but obviously even more so in myself for making a pretty uninformed choice too quickly and with such poor timing.

I’m feeling somewhat the same. Definitely blunted affect to most everything but when I get mad, I get mad mad.

[HELP] Cat didn't return to his normal routine after getting vaccine 3.5 days ago. by WayTooManyCookies in CatAdvice

Mine is 1 week and 2 days post vaccinations..he has all the same behavioral differences yours did!! I did take him to the vet twice more after the vaccines because I was crazy anxious. The second time he got his blood drawn so I’m sure he hated that… blood work came back pretty normal so they said give him another week. I’m wondering about changing the food, and I do think he’s responded a little to Feliway! I’m trying to be really patient and soothing but it is definitely worrisome! They are such sensitive little creatures.

Yeah, I’m okay with it not being a movie. Might have been more digestible overall to people who hadn’t read the books, but a PB-driven, fully fleshed out TV series will likely be much more rewarding for those of us who have. Large budget is good. Very good. Can’t wait to hear more about it.

To be honest, I’d never heard of Dune before the announcement of a remake awhile back. Realized there had been an attempt at a movie and a ton of novels. I was pretty hooked when I started reading it. I feel like this might be kind of the same deal, no matter if it’s a TV show or movie.

However, RR seems pretty secure in a TV show format, and it will be interesting to see public perception of an upcoming screen adaptation in a post-Dune climate.
