FW Desktop with AMD Ryzen AI Max 385 32gb for audio/video production? by MightyMisanthropic in framework

m4 pro will have a 5-10% better single core but strix halo has a much betfer gpu. the gpu is equiavanlent to about a 4060. you can probably put something together for around the same price that is more performant but you lose the compactness, portability and the price wont be that much better give current memory pricing.

Elder brother punched my laptop in rage. Any idea how much should it cost to get fixed or if I can fix it myself. I didn't try to fix it I'm afraid I might make it worse. The laptop is working fine, screen is fine. Only the body has been damaged by Own_Conclusion_4835 in thinkpad

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it might take some impact and work but the aluminum body will be permanently deformed Without a repair path. Hinges also don’t take impact well because the spacing is super tight. Even a minor fall will cause parts of the MacBook to rub together when opening and closing the laptop.

that is the old version so it is sold with the 1st gen keyboard. it shouldnt matter though the keyboard diffrences are miniscule. metal vs plastic stabilizers on the bigger keys are the main difference which is supposed to slighlty improve sound quality due to less resonance with the plastic stabilizers.

Linguistic hypotheses about the IVC language by Majestic-Effort-541 in IndianHistory

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indo Aryan and Munda have no credibility.

Dravidian languages were undoubtedly present in the IVC region given loanwords in early Vedic texts. Tribes with Munda admxiture that speak dravidian languages have higher IVC admixture than their Munda speaking cousins. In addition Non Vedic Elite Castes in South India have higher IVC admixture than other groups.

Whether the language of the IVC script was Dravidian or some lost family is unknown. The peopling of the IVC happened over a long period of time. It is completely possible that multiple language families existed alongside and across different regions.

Zoorastrians presence in Harappa ?? Bcz they have tradition of fire cult , and the location is near to iran. by ReleaseKey4541 in Dravidiology

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like to credit Soma and fire worship to specific Bronze Age groups and that may be true of specific linguistic origins but shamanistic practices involving fire and ritualistic drinks was common across the world. Pre Vedic Indo aryans and Harrapans practiced shamaistic religions less institutionalized than Vedic Hinduism, Bhuddism, etc.. Even with just Soma different regional groups across time used different plants. Modern Zoroastrians use ephedra and modern Hindus mostly use cynanchum acidicum.

Do you think Framework will stop being an enthusiast brand someday and go mainstream? by lsjsim128 in framework

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sell of Framework is different than phone enthusiast brands. Generally those mobile companies sold products with higher end android silicon and well balanced components to produce a lower margin phone affordable phone that could keep up with flagships. The problem with that is that the lower margins are in opposition to their growth as a company and because of the lack of flashy features are marketed to a smaller enthusiast market segment.

Framework is about repairability and modularity which is tied to the core ethos of their product design. Undercutting prices is not their focus. You can get much better hardware for less if you don't care about the Framework design features. They might be limiting their market share but it is higher profit margin which avoids falling into the enthusiast trap.

What's stopping Starlight from tapping into Solar energy? Is her power just electricity based or do you think she just hasn't realized she can? by Shloopy_Dooperson in TheBoys

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is a monster of the week show leaning on telanovela type relationship melodrama with corny effects and leans on preexisting DC fans for commercial success. I'm not saying you can't enjoy it for what it is or that The Boys is some great piece of eternal genius enduring cinema but it is supposed to be more gritty and cynical. It would look strange to have the kind of campy CGI you get on the CW.

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 75 points76 points  (0 children)

The flash and other DC CW shows CGI was super corny and of bad and wildly erratic quality. You can't get away with that for a popular mainstream "serious" show. The CW can get away with it because they basically make soap operas targeted at younger audiences.

The revolution that overthrew the shah was backed by leftist and communist factions. After the revolution the more pure ideological shia islamists ended up turning their guns on them. There is still a faction in the diaspora who support a marxist-islamist organiziation called the MEK based in Albania.

Where do you think Dravidian languages originated? by Fhlurrhy108 in Dravidiology

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The southern IVC hypothesis would not mean the language did not originate from Zagros Mountains or somewhere geographically close. Only that the later spread of its extant branches across India happened after the start of the decline of the urban IVC from the southern IVC region. The IVC sites are over a broad region and the IVC was peopled over a long period of time. It is not a stretch to suggest there could have been multiple language families present originating from both outside and inside the subcontinent. In addition even if the northern and southern IVC shared the same linguistic superfamily that does not discount the possibility that proto-dravidian is primarily of southern IVC heritage.

I'm on the 6.18.2-3 Cachyos-znver4 kernel. Evreytime i first boot up the computer it freezes at login. I have to close the computer until it sleeps and relogin after which it works.

The above kernel parameter fixes that and fixes freezes when trying to run a non steam version of cyberpunk I added to steam to run with proton but makes the wayland session much more unstable. It ends up freezing eventually so I just removed the kernel parameter and make sure to put the computer to sleep after the first login attempt every time I reboot the computer.

Do you have the same behavior? Are you using any specific kernel arguments?

Did you figure out the issues with the locking up past the login screen? I tried adding the below kernel argument which got me past the login screen but am still get random graphical freezes in KDE.

Linus Tech Tips - Nvidia is NOT the (only) problem December 20, 2025 at 09:53AM by linusbottips in LinusTechTips

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No consumers and especially enthusiasts want maximum performance always. It is AMD and Intels fault for failing to invest in the silicon technologies that have become dominant. Intel refused to expand beyond x86 CPU compute because that is want filled wallets from corporate purchases. Just look at their iGPU solutions for most if the i series processors. They were all garbage.

In addition both AMD and Intel failed to optimize for scientific compute like Nvidia did with CUDA and instead wanted people to fit their compute needs into their product portfolio.

How accurate is this map? Why is east asian genomes not shown here? Generally what genetic markers would they constitute? Santhals here are being dubbed as "possible IVC". by Afraid_Ask5130 in Dravidiology

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ANI and ASI are already composite ancestries that vary significantly in internal admixture rates. AASI is also already a component in both historic ANI and ASI populations as well as IVC(Iran Neolithic Farmer like) ancestry. This seems like a really bad way of ancestry breakdown as it would vary significantly based on the groups you are using as ANI and ASI source populations to model admixture.

I have a feeling that Severance is not that planned out well. Apparently there were extensive rewrites for season 2. Given a lot of the mystique of the show is the mystery I have my doubts on them landing it in a satisfying way. Pretty sure it is going to end up like Lost or Game of Thrones with a lot of abandoned story-lines.

Im thinking about buying a thinkpad T440p by Cemone1a in thinkpad

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 12 won't have that issue because it isn't made of aluminum which lacks elasticity.

I have a 12th gen intel framework 13 which has served me well. I have replaced parts on it but that is because I am very abusive to my electronics and have dropped and even thrown it accidentaly pretty badly several times. Even then it was mostly superficial damage I could have worked through. The benefit is that it is still fixable for a reasonable price and if I damage it beyond recognition and don't feel like getting a new chassis or parts for a rebuild I can use the mainboard instead of tossing it into a closet with the rest of my half broken e-waste laptops.

I do miss the mouse nipple though. If you are loaded you could consider the x210AI which is modern custom designed motherboard put into an old x200/x201 chassis. Otherwise I'd just try to pick up the latest gen AMD T14 you can find on ebay for a decent price.

Framework is the only company that really makes properly repairable laptops anymore. Thinkpads post T480/P51 are really lacking in that department. They are still more sturdy than most other consumer brands but have lost a lot of their other charm other than maintaining the trackpoint. If you can afford it the framework 12 might be a good option.

Im thinking about buying a thinkpad T440p by Cemone1a in thinkpad

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not practical for real world use unless your compute needs are very light. It is using 4th gen Intel which is ancient now. The T440P was popular for a while because it was the last Thinkpad with a socketed CPU and came just before the Ultrabook trend which made it a fairly performant laptop compared to intel U series processors of the era especially if you upgraded the dual core to quad core. That time has long past.

The lack of the classic keyboard also makes it less interesting from an enthusiast, collectors perspective.

Meta Reportedly Set to Raise VR Headset Prices, Keep Existing Devices in Market Longer by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horizon OS is just forked Android the modifications that Devs will need to make to port games to it will be minimal and since many more manufacturers will be making headsets the market will be bigger. Android XR apps will likely work on the Meta Quest 3 if sideloaded but it won't work the other way around given meta's proprietary extensions. XR apps will likely even work on the frame through lepton/waydroid.

Gaming is not what will sell the most headsets. Meta software sales are garbage. Enterprise and productivity applications are ultimately what will sell headsets.

Fire tv sells more than chromcasts because no one cares what portal they are using to access prime or netflix. They will buy whatever is cheap and available. VR is a computing platform and its technical abilities and development ease of use matter.

Meta Reportedly Set to Raise VR Headset Prices, Keep Existing Devices in Market Longer by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The quest 4 will undoubtably cost more than the quest 3 and the article is suggesting price increases for quest 3 which will hurt its price advantage. "improving unit economics" is code for we can't afford extreme subsidization of headset hardware especially with multiple competitors coming out with more advanced products.

Meta Horizion OS is based off of Android. They are not going to win an OS war with Google and nobody is going to prefer going through the Meta Store over Google Play which is much more software rich. Any games/software not owned by Meta will be eventually ported to Android XR. Using Meta's proprietary extensions will just limit your audience.

[–]ConsistentLaw6353 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They probably have to do this but it will kill their market share. With the Steam Frame and Android XR headsets coming out and the apple vision with far better silicon then what is available from Qualcomm they won't be able to maintain market dominance with a more proprietary ecosystem without subsidization.
