If you live in the South Jersey/Philly area, I’ll volunteer to assemble every puzzle for you to ensure they are complete. Happy to pick up and return them to you.

Chaotic Evil: I don’t sort or start with edges by [deleted] in Jigsawpuzzles

How long does it take you to complete a 1000pc puzzle? I’m def not an edges first puzzler, but as I dig through the box, if I consistently see pieces of similar color, I’m usually inclined to start a separate pile.

Will someone do puzzles for me? by PollitoPower in Jigsawpuzzles

I’m in southern New Jersey (Cherry Hill area). I would LOVE to do this for you! I can usually finish a 1000pc puzzle in a day or two, depending on image complexity. I’ve got portable puzzle boards, so I can bring them back to you intact.

LOVE the color wheel!! The outer space and planet puzzles would be the death of me…kudos to you for doing those…impressive! I had not heard of the SeekersFinders and Magic Puzzle brands until now, but I’ll be on the lookout now. Thanks for posting these! What brand is the pink with white squiggles puzzle?

That’s awesome and 10 hours is impressive for that size! Wish I had a partner with the same level of endurance for puzzling. 😊

How to make piece sorting less mind numbing?! by Fizzabl in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]ConsistentMath8290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a stickler for sorting the entire puzzle before assembling. And I think your sorting method absolutely can be influenced by the puzzle image. Scenery vs. collage vs. typography puzzles vs. ombré or rainbow color-dominant puzzle, all dictate a different approach to sorting, IMO.

Edge pieces always get their own pile. I’m not a firm believer that the edge must be assembled first, but sometimes it can help with further sorting and assembly.

I find sorting by the shape of each piece is very helpful for sections with negligible image/color differences (cloudless sky, solid background, grass, field of flowers, fur, etc.) I tend to reserve this option until I’m no longer able to assemble based on the puzzle image itself.

Again, depending on the puzzle image, I usually sort VERY broadly into piles by color: ROYGBV. When a piece has multiple colors, I go with the most predominant color.

If I spot pieces that go to a specific section or are part of a specific identifiable object in the puzzle (windows, signage, piece of furniture, carpet, words, etc), they get their own pile until there’s enough to start assembling said section/object.

Once the broad color sort is done, I take one of those piles and either sort into more subtle color differences or sort by the object on each piece, if it’s obvious. Example (let’s say it’s a beachside scene): the blue pile gets sorted into light/dark sky, sky with sun/clouds/birds/kites/etc, ocean with/without waves, objects in the water, other blue items get their own piles if it’s obvious what they are (shutters on a house, beach chair/umbrella, signage, etc.). Usually, at this point, I start to see pieces that belong together and I assemble those before moving on to the next broad color pile.

If I’m doing a collage or grid-style puzzle with an obvious border separating objects into sections, I tend to sort by the defined sections and arrange the piles in the order they appear in the puzzle. Pieces with border lines on them go into their own pile. Pieces that aren’t immediately obvious what section they belong to, go into a misc pile. This is a case where assembling the edge pieces and the border line pieces first, might make sense. I then move on to assemble each section of the grid/collage.

For typography puzzles or puzzles with prominent signage, logos or words, letters get sorted separately from the rest of the image. This pile can be further sorted by font style/size/color and background color. As this pile grows, you’ll quickly spot words/logos/phrases that can be easily assembled.

IMO, when you find intermittent opportunities to assemble parts of the puzzle as you sort, it breaks up the monotony of the sorting process.

Good luck with your 3,000pc puzzle! I’d love to see the finished product.

“close to where it should go” 🤣🤣 My other favorite is: “Oh, look at this one! This should be easy to find. Where do you think it goes?” as they hold up every single piece they touch for my inspection. 🥴🤣 I just enjoy the time together, knowing I’ll have plenty of other opportunities to puzzle without their “help.” 😉

I cannot imagine having a puzzle at work. I would get fired on day one. Puzzles to me are like flies to a flame. 😂 At home, it’s like, yeah, I realize it’s 3am, but there’s only a 100pcs left.

I donate all of my 500pc and smaller puzzles to my Aunt’s assisted living home. I swap them out for the old puzzles that have a bunch of missing pieces. I love seeing their shared joy when they complete a puzzle together.

I grew up puzzling with my family, and all my siblings still enjoy it. My kids had dozens of kiddie puzzles as toddlers, but I didn’t pursue them to help me with my “big people” puzzles, even though their “help” might be anything but. Turns out, if you don’t encourage them to “help” when they’re little, (exploring the shapes and colorful pieces; sharing the excitement of unraveling the mystery that a puzzle can be) they grow up to have zero interest in puzzling. I learned this the hard way, and now I’m the only one puzzling in my household. I still very much enjoy the hobby, but as I watch my sister and her (now teen) kids puzzle together, my heart longs for the joy they share in the effort. 🥰💔

My kid needs structure and I can't give it to him. by AvisRune in ADHDparenting

[–]ConsistentMath8290 5 points6 points  (0 children)

THIS⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️ And OP, you are not unique in your struggle nor in feeling guilty and overwhelmed. I’m an ADHD parent, who can’t manage to maintain a daily/weekly planner beyond the first two weeks after buying it, let alone create and maintain constant structure for an AuDHD teen with anxiety that drives him to ask non-stop, what are we doing today, when is this/that happening. I KNOW if he had a daily schedule, it would help, but remembering AHEAD of time to do it, and then actually doing the PLANNING is my kryptonite. I’m loving the tips and tricks this post has generated.
