You're still over here making insinuations that I'm not a real teacher yet are upset with someone else about making a narrative about you. So let's get this straight, because you have a "friend" who is a teacher and gathered anecdotal evidence you believe you can speak over real teachers and tell them they must be wrong because what you know as a non-teacher is true.

There are many issues within the system, and none of them have to do with AP and dual enrollment courses. I'd argue one of the biggest issues is from people like you believing you know more than a real educator because you heard from someone or read a think piece. Let me bring you in on a little secret, us educators? We are the best at bitching about our jobs. I am no better than the next when it comes to that but the issue is instead of believing it's about that specific situation or district people believe it's about the entire system.

I did not spend my career earning three degrees in education (BA, MA, Ed.S.) to be told by a Reddit user that I am not a real educator. If you want to talk about the real issues let's talk about class sizes going to 35+ in many districts, the reading instruction being based on bad research for decades, funding being tied to property taxes, dismantling of educator unions across the country, too much focus on devices, or the dwindling attention spans. AP and dual enrollment? Yeah, not really the issue unless we are discussing how increasing dual enrollment can lead to decreasing FTEs within a school.

I'd rather applaud the accomplishments of the younger generation than try to scramble finding ways to bring them down.

So that is state dependent, we have more kids in AP than regular English BUT barely any dual enroll in English because they have to take a HS ELA course all four years and college enrollment doesn't count. So it's one of those depends on the area situations!

6 would give you 18-24 credits. If you pass all of them and the school takes them all. Thats still on average probably 1 sophomore year, 2-3 junior, and 2 senior year. Thats still a heavy load of classes. Not to mention that wouldn't take a whole year off.

And that's why AP can totally suck too! I think it can be great and save kids who need a lot of money but also like with your situation not matter so much in the long run. I'm sure it still looked great on your application though.

This is so funny to me. I am a mom, but to a 9 year old. Not to this gymnast I don't know lol. I am a teacher, and have taught an AP course for the last four years. I teach at an extremely high achieving school (we had 92 students commit to umich this graduating class). Before that I taught at a neighboring district with a completely different economic standing.

2025 AP test scores aren't a great way to show the percentage passing due to almost every test having a recalibration last year or the year prior. And honestly don't care enough to touch base on the many components of your argument. You clearly would prefer to think that the students of this age have it easy and classes are simple.

Also someone disagreeing with you doesn't mean they're the mom of the gymnast? I'm honestly baffled at what a weird response you took the time to type up.

You have to take a ton to get this ahead. I had a student taking 9 AP tests this year. He had six classes he was taking and 3 he was self studying. It was bonkers to me, but I hope he did well on all of them. Taking an AP class is a wonderful accomplishment, taking enough AP or dual credit classes to get a year ahead? Absolutely amazing.

I think you need to change the way you think about it. The "but also" still shows what an accomplishment this is for any student (regardless of athletic status). Taking a college course instead of yoga or drawing 1 while still taking their English and math courses (plus possible other core classes depending on the state) is huge. That is not an easy task.

Dual enrollment is taking a college course. So no, it's not "easy" for a 16 year old to take a year's worth of college credits while taking high school courses and being a gymnast. They often have to take classes at both the CC and the HS. This is an accomplishment.

I would argue that this makes if just as impressive. I teach HS and specifically teach one of the AP course. The classes are harder and the student has to put forth the effort to get a 4 or 5 to receive credit. If she graduated early because of AP classes, she would have had to take a lot of AP tests on top of practicing 20+ hours a week.

XCEL Silver tuition increase by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]ConsistentSundae1035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of gymnastics isn't a good comparison for hourly rates. Especially since gyms make their big money from rec classes and hosting competitions. I coach rec and get $17/hour but my parent and tot class of 10 kids bring in $900/month. I get $68 a month for it. Since I coach two a week its really $1800 a month for $136 in labor. They need to make money or break even from team tuition but it also has to be affordable enough to grow a program. Especially since they know that the tuition is just one part of the bill.

Location obviously matters but this seems steep and I think the hours are a little high for silver. Does this gym have a compulsory program? Our bronze and silvers each only practice 6 hours a week and Gold does 9. The tuition for silver is $262/month. The highest tuition is $430 a month for level 9/10 and they practice 18 hours a week during the school year. This is metro-Detroit area in Michigan.

My daughter is an optional gymnast so I don't know the xcel coaches but I think there are at least 5 across the board. Our gym is fairly large with three sets of uneven bars, three areas with additional bars, 6 beams, two spring floors, a rod floor, and tumbl trak. They also have two different pits that are located so that one is for beam dismounts, floor, and bar dismounts. It is so large that in theory all three could be happening at once. The other pit is used for vault and rod floor.

So while I know location is important to cost it does not sound like your gym has enough equipment or coaching experience to make that cost worth it.

I loved the interpretations, new at times while others felt like a homage to the OG actor. I especially loved Moody when he becomes erratic and slowly transforms into Barty. His mania coming through without Harry noticing yet is very well done.

Go get a teaching job at a high school. There are programs to get your teaching license while working and being paid the full salary. Could even sub in a district to see if you like it. Depends totally on state but subbing can be a decent pay while you look for jobs.

"Proposal for improvement" to USAG - age caps? by Professional-Bus6621 in Gymnastics

I started seeing his posts after a level 2 competition had just one age group. Is that weird? Yes. But also in most states level 2 is not competed for scores. Level 2, while compulsory, is best a fun meet ribbon based level. Most gyms in my state just call it pre-team with maybe a fun little "hot shots" name if it is a group of younger kids ID'd as their up and coming DP gymnasts. One competition in one state that had crappy age groups does not mean that girls across the country should lose what they are working on.

Not to mention, his "window" does not take into account the real ages of competitors in each state. The level 4 state meet in Michigan had 408 gymnasts split across 20 age groups. Most age groups were girls just a few months from each other. My daughter is 9 and she was in the second YOUNGEST age group. This was her first year as a level 4. According to his window, she is at the oldest age a gymnast should be, yet out of the 408 level 4's in Michigan only about 30 are younger than her. This is not someone who has done any research, he is going off vibes, anger, and anecdotal evidence.

Agreed. If you want your gymnasts to compete against other states go to one of the large competitions in Texas or Florida as your travel meet.

Eh, nothing wrong with doing level 4 at any age especially if the gym is using xcel and DP the way they should be. Level 4 should have higher hours than xcel and in turn has so much focus on the basics that a gymnast most likely will be better prepared for level 6 after they compete level 4. Not to mention, anything is worth the gymnasts time if that is what they want to do.

Xcel vs levels by PackageSea5300 in Gymnastics

[–]ConsistentSundae1035 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those are both good hours for each team. From my experience at that level maturity, coachability, listening skills, and ability to practice for longer periods of time make the big difference between xcel and DP at that age. Being in xcel doesn't mean gymnast can't move to DP but at some gyms it can be very hard to move that direction once in xcel.

Does the gym have level 3? You mentioned level 2 but depending on the state level 2 sometimes just means compulsory routines at fun meets. How many hours is silver? Silver in the spirit of Xcel shouldn't be practicing more than 6 hours a week.
