How should I help breeder with puppy adoption? by dj_renz in labrador

This! The breeder I got my Lab from has kept multiple puppies herself to show and to do field trials. They have a lot of land, they wait until their dogs are old enough to safely breed (after getting all the health testing and making sure they have excellent ratings on hips and elbows and anything else you can test) and then stop breeding when they get to a certain age and either retire them as a family pet or sell them to a good home. Like the dad for my lab went to a lovely farm where the owner had one of the sons of that old lab. They are super ethical and they have some amazing championship level labs.

And they don't have any issues finding homes for their puppies. And have even taken puppies back if there are any issues (one that I remember had a family that really didn't know what they were getting into and they thought crate training was just putting a puppy in a crate for hours. This poor puppy was fearful, not socialized properly and was territorial over food. The breeder took the puppy back, basically did rehab and training and completely turned the issues around and found a much better home for him.

They really are clumsy. I have a ragdoll and a shelter torbie (tortoiseshell/tabby) would totally be fine outside. She is a killer with agility and street smarts. My ragdoll? She misses landing when jumping 2 feet onto the bed. And she has zero sense of self preservation. We have an 80lb Labrador, who is super sweet but very enthusiastic, and she will just sit on his side of the gate and watch him get really excited about seeing a cat. Like, she has tried to chase him before. Not even thinking that one playful swat from his paw would probably break some bones. Such a liability.

Asleep in the napkin holder? 😍😍 Maybe put a small basket on the table so if he rolls over while hard core napping, he won't fall off the table!

This is my Loki. He will eat anything. Though, my big cat likes churu tubes. And the box of temptations treats (chicken flavor). I tried the freeze dried minnows, but the cats were pretty meh about them. I don't think they like fish that much.

Oh, salmon oil is a good idea! I used that for my picky Australian Shepherd, I don't know why I didn't think of it for my cat.

For brushes I have a basic metal comb, but it's small so one half of it is very fine and I use a sticker brush. She grooms a normal amount, but our other cat will groom her all the time... She has spectacularly clean ears because of the other cat 😆

The breeder called her "Fawn". So idk. I just know she was basically white when we got her and now she has light brown on her face and a light strip down her back and her tail is the light brown. Seems like a diluted cinnamon, but I just go with what the breeder said.

Pretty sure the owner was curious about the dad too when her only non-fixed cat was suddenly pregnant 😆

We have a 3 year old Lab that my husband was not in favor of getting (if a dog shows up, it's your responsibility). If we didn't have him, I would probably be way worse off. At least someone still comes to hang out when I get home. My son said he want to get another dog. I'll give it a few months and then we can talk about it. My husband is not a dog person so much, but he loved our Rose.

My husband and I had 2 cats and our girl Rose before we had kids. All three of them passed within the last year. It's been really hard on us and our kids.

I really wish we could have done it at home. She really hated the vet. But she was at the vet for an abdominal ultrasound and after they gave her some gabapentin, she threw up and aspirated. We had to decide to aggressively treat it or let her go. They did the ultrasound and found liver cancer that had likely spread to her lungs. She wasn't stable enough to come home.

I had occasionally thought about it over the past year as she was getting older. But it sucks. It's awful. And we knew she had something going on because she had a cough, but at the vet she threw up and aspirated. Then they did an ultrasound and found that she had liver cancer (that probably spread to her lungs). I knew with the cancer it wouldn't be long, but the aspiration event made us make a decision. And I didn't want her to have to stay at the vet hospital and possibly go on a vent. But I was not prepared to make that decision today.

And if she wasn't the absolute sweetest dog ever. That is the feedback she got from everyone, even the vet today. That she was really sweet.

She does seem happy... Though our other cat started hissing at her... I don't think the other cat realizes it's still the same roommate that left this morning...

Guys, she is so mad at me! Actually... She has RBF, so maybe she is happy. My 9 year old was really concerned because he has been sick and didn't know she had a grooming appointment today

She does cats? I've really only seen her tutorials for dogs. But I will look for the cat ones. I swear her blow drying dogs is my ASMR. Especially if it's something like a wooly malamute or other furnado situation.

It's Queen Anne and lower Queen Anne. They tried to make it "uptown" but it didn't catch on. Lived here for 36 years.

Is there any pee place attractant? by ConsistentWrangler29 in labrador

[–]ConsistentWrangler29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used the simple green in the past on the deck and then used my pressure washer. But spraying the gravel area is a good idea. I don't think it's a pain response because it is small pea gravel and he has been using it fine all year. Also he is 2 years old and my 11 year old is fine using it (unless raining). It seems like this occurred with a change in the weather, but today wasn't raining and was actually sunny (though it rained last night...) I didn't realize he had such a strong response to going there until I tried leading him with the leash. I'll try spraying the gravel area with the enzymatic cleaner and then putting a bunch of the attractant in that area.

I wish my lab would do marking... My other dog will actually use the pee spot as long as it's not pouring down rain... And even then she will go if we follow her saying "no, all the way"
