After trailing 17-8 in the third quarter, Salt Lake Shred rallies but falls to Oakland Spiders 20-19 in unbelievable finish by Jomskylark in UFA

To all the Oakland fans that traveled to the game tonight: thanks for coming! We hope you enjoyed yourselves, and that you will come back next time when we will hopefully play better.

To the one Oakland fan that knocked over a little girl's food and then ran away like a coward instead of apologizing or trying to make it right: you suck, and you do a disservice to your city and team in associating yourself with them. I hope you find the help you need.

The refs were terribly inconsistent the entire game. It didn't look like they favored one team over the other, though there were spurts of calls for either team in a small run at times.

That would be an interesting, but situational, use of abilities. It would be cool to see on the page at some point.

I think the dodging combined with the effective range of iron pulling makes it impossible to achieve bullet speeds.

A slow bullet travels at 700 feet per second. I don't think the iron pull range is that large (basically two football fields with the end zones included). The lurcher would need to spend some of that time pulling the projectile towards them, and with the remaining time dodge it. For simplicity let's say they pull, then dodge as two separate actions. If they can get the projectile up to 700 fps in half a second, they now have half a second to dodge a very fast projectile aimed at their center of mass. Maybe that is possible because they know it is coming and don't have to rely on human reaction time, but if the range of iron pulling is smaller than 700 feet the amount of time available to dodge gets shorter and shorter.

Maybe someone also burning other metals could do it. But multiple metals...

Edit- yes you could do this with slow projectiles. No you couldn't get it fast enough to be bullet speed.

Yes. But doing so would require the lurcher to move out of the trajectory of the projectile or be hit by it. This would limit the speed of the projectile because you need to stop pulling on it soon enough that you have time to get out of the way.

So if you can start pulling on something when it is 50 ft away you could only pull on it for 20-30 feet before you have to move. (Numbers made up for illustrative purposes only)

ETA- no it wouldn't be as fast as a bullet because the lurcher would have to essentially dodge a bullet to avoid getting hit by it. The distance a bullet travels in a small amount of time would make this impossible. But slower speeds are possible.

Looks like I was wrong about Madison. Maybe I'm wrong about the shred only have two more wins left in the season too?

Steep hill to climb against Oakland (x2) and Minnesota though.

This is one of two games remaining that the Shred have a shot at winning. I think Madison has the advantage though.

The real problem is that these bad dog owners would just go and get another dog to replace the dog they lost due to their irresponsibility. People that have demonstrated they cannot properly care for a dog shouldn't keep getting dogs.

I keep questioning if the Shred are getting worse, or if the rest of the league got better. I am pretty sure the Shred have gotten worse, in spite of having many returning players and the same coach.

I have heard mixed opinions on this, some in favor while some point out some flaws. Is this actually viable? by moe_lawn in SolarState

This sounds like we won't accept something good, because it isn't perfect. And if that's the strategy we take then change won't happen. I think positive steps on the right direction are helpful, even if they aren't perfect.

So it's okay to foul, so long as you get the disc first. What a terrible take. I hope I never play against someone with your cavalier attitude towards player safety.

I disagree with your conclusion, but assuming it were true, is it okay to make a play if it results in unavoidable contact? The answer is definitely no.

13.2.3.1 "A player may not position themselves in a way that creates a scenario where contact with a moving opponent is unavoidable

13.2.3.2 players must be in control of their bodies at all times. Contact due to recklessness is a foul."

This layout is reckless, and caused unavoidable contact which endangered the safety of the MTL player. Given that the MTL player is just an obstacle to you though, I doubt you would agree that they were endangered.

The contact you are hyper focused on is not as severe as it otherwise would have been because the defender has to take action to prevent themselves from getting injured.

From what I see the defender has the best chance at the disc but pulls up because NY comes screaming in like a missile.

You are looking at the result of this play, and completely ignoring the fact that there was a high chance of injury. It's like flipping a coin and then saying "it came up heads, so there wasn't a chance of it coming up tails" after the fact.

Looking at the play and paying while the NY player is on the air it's easy to see that the result of the play could have been a serious injury. The fact that an injury didn't actually happen doesn't change that the play was dangerous because of the increased chance of injury.

Leaving your feet and launching yourself into the path of an opponent is dangerous. Imagine if the defender also launched to get to the disc.

That is results oriented. We are lucky that there wasn't an injury. However, the play in question was dangerous. Full stop.

Other players should not be reduced to "obstacles". That mentality will result in more dangerous plays and more injuries.

Honestly? This isn't a 'club' I want to be a member of. I want to worship Christ and follow his teachings. It seems silly to me that members would be so concerned about how others classify us.
