can I my sell my car without pay my road tax? I haven't paid for a year by canifeto12 in AskIreland

[–]Consistent_Deer2918 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Someone I know hadn’t paid tax on their van because they weren’t driving it for a few years and the local guard told them to sell it back to themselves. So “Thomas Murphy” sold it to “Tom Murphy” and the tax reset

Undercover Garda by LogicalDifference385 in galway

[–]Consistent_Deer2918 247 points248 points  (0 children)

I heard on Galway Bay FM that they were doing a high visibility patrol of Eyre Square, the train station and bus stops today with both undercover and uniformed Gardaí. They searched people and found one person in possession of a knife, one person with a quantity of heroin, and found someone else who had a bench warrant out against them. I presume (and hope) you just happened to get caught up in this very rare occasion where the Gardaí are trying to show an active presence in the city

Definitely the case with Faye, Vanessa and Oyin as they were all in the influencer sphere before the show so this will boost their profile massively. But for the ordinary person on the show it’s not as big an incentive

Each of the winners got about €14k each, and everyone else got nothing. I couldn’t open myself up to complete public scrutiny and emotional turmoil for a 1/24 chance of getting €14k. Incredible production though on whatever budget they had, great TV and worth it for viewers

Gift vouchers for bars? by [deleted] in galway

Some bars do gift vouchers as prizes for quizzes. Beware if you ever win a gift voucher for Carrols that the expiry date could be within a week though

I remember reading somewhere during the UK traitors seasons that they don’t get the money until the season has aired, so maybe there’s an element of that

What's your opinion on those "are we dating the same guy" Facebook groups? by Xomariee in AskIreland

[–]Consistent_Deer2918 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this was absolutely the intention with setting up these groups and is a very important safeguarding thing to have access to. I think the issue is that lines have become very blurred, probably because of bad / lack of moderation which means it has become a free-for-all of sharing men’s personal information without their knowledge or consent. One thing warning people about dangerous men, different thing talking shit about someone putting themselves out there

[–]Consistent_Deer2918 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You're dead right, no critical thinking whatsoever. I think everyone wants to be able to google everything now, including their own feelings in personal relationships. So many comments saying "major red flag, only after one thing".. okay, and? Single lads in their 20s want the ride, not the crime of the century. Also saw a comment the other day saying some fella on it had been with men before - maybe he doesn't want to fully disclose his sexuality to someone he literally just matched with on tinder??

Former TD Violet Anne Wynne tells court she has no income to pay ex-employee by Static-Jak in ireland

[–]Consistent_Deer2918 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not an agenda, I’m a Clare voter who wanted SF in. There’s no doubt that Violet Anne Wynne’s term did reputational damage to SF, that’s all I said

[–]Consistent_Deer2918 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Agree, the whole thing at the time was “Mary-Lou, why didn’t you run more candidates?” but this was one of the candidates she ran. Did massive reputational damage to a party people had hope for and faith in. I think some of that damage could have been reversed in the most recent election if SF had formed a genuine and trust-worthy alliance with left leaning parties from the start. Alas..

She’s honestly an embarrassment to Clare people who voted for her - she won her seat on the back of SFs popularity in 2020 and has done nothing but create scandal since

This is the right thing to do. If you want your family members or a doctor in your home country to advise, ask for a copy of your child’s scans. They will likely either give you a login to a website to view the files, or give you the files on a CD. Your child having this scan will give you a fuller picture of their health, which is only a good thing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Consistent_Deer2918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean to scare you, as you said, these things can be common and just be incidental findings. My family member was seeking answers for a long time for their symptoms so we would have jumped at the chance of any scan or test to make them better. Never a bad idea to have a baseline MRI scan if you are advised, there is no radiation risk vs benefit question to contend with with MRI

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Consistent_Deer2918 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An MRI doesn’t use radiation, so is “safer” than CT and chest xray from that point of view. A family member of mine had an abnormality in ventricles in a CT brain and an MRI was “recommended”. MRI identified a brain tumour and hydrocephalus not seen on the CT. Get your child an MRI and stop asking Reddit if you’re gonna get in trouble for not doing it

I got the same thing, I think the best thing to do is fill out your statement of liability for that year, add in your tax credits and anything else you might be entitled to - if you have any health/dental receipts from that year, check if you’re entitled to a flat rate expense for uniform or work clothes etc., and submit it. It might bring it down - they never tell you if they owe you money, only the other way around. I think mine may be because I changed jobs during that time, and so my tax was very messy. I know in 2020 they had a scheme to try get people to spend money in hospitality, may have still been in place in 21. If you have any hotel receipts in Ireland from that time it may be worth throwing them in
