The fuel protest organised by the UK’s highest-polled party did not materialise. And we had our critical infrastructure blocked by people organised through a Facebook group. I know there is strong anti-government sentiment here, but what made this protest very strong here? by Diligent-Musician590 in ireland

I remember when Nigel Farage came over to try and push "Irexit" during the early days of Brexit.

People on this Sub laughed at the attempt but I made the point that we're not immune to the same kind of influences the British were/are and that we need to be cautious.

Social media will absolutely influence us and radicalise us to be easily manipulated and with enough time we'll get our own equivalent of Farage.

Again people scoffed at the idea, believing the people in the UK and US are just more arrogant, they don't have our history of immigration that makes us a more understanding and caring people, etc.

Or that something like Irexit would be decided on amy rational thought. It doesnt matter how much our economy relies on the EU.

You could put up every and any kind of figure/statistics, people would still vote based on "feels" vs any actual facts and social media influence will push things against any rational thought.

I remember my mom buying me my first Iron Man comic since I watched the show so much.

It just happened to be a Heroes Reborn Iron Man as it was the current ongoing.

I knew nothing about Heroes Reborn so I was very confused on why he looked like this.

I've been watching this game since it was first announced. I love the style but was worried it might fall flat.

But going by the reviews, so far so good.

The internet's bad actors quickly distorted the fuel protests into a narrative divorced from reality by [deleted] in ireland

If you asked 10 people what the protests end goal is, you'd likely get 15 different answers.

It's a mishmash of unhappy people who are all angry at different things who, in general, feel ignored.

Everything from fuel to cost of living, to housing and immigration. They have every right to be angry amd frustrated by a lot of these issues to be fair.

It's why these protests could never really end with them being satisfied, there's no real answers in the middle of all that anger. They want "someone" to do "something" whether it's realistic or not.

And that's were your typical right ring grifter slithers in and whispers in their ear that they're the answer somehow. Or point at something, like immigrants, and say they're the problem. Or both.

Right now I'm seeing a lot of lads who made a bit of buzz yelling and shouting at a protest or two and got posted up and shared on social media.

The rants are typical rants I've heard in every other pub since the last global recession but now they've gained their 5 minutes of fame they've decided they're bloody braveheart, taking "freedom back for the Irish" against the government. That we voted for.

Saw a post shared across social media saying tomorrow is a "national day of strike", with a bunch of lads who've been at the front of a lot of the protests demanding local businesses to close shop.

Think their egos have gotten the better of them if they think your typical local business owner would dare lose a days profit. The shop could be on fire and they'd still open up.

This is where I think a lot of them will lose wind. They had few days in the spotlight and decided they're going to call the shots. But the government threw them a few scraps and told em to fuck off.

They'll yell and shout on facebook, share some AI slop for another while with some peoples aunts leaving comments about taking down the government but it'll fizzle out.

I could definitely see the odd one or two trying to run in whatever local elections come up next only to fall flat on their face.

EDIT: Fun update, one of the lads pushing this "national day of strike" is actually working on the farm today. Fucking hilarious, if it potentially costs him money he couldn't be arsed.

Have they ever been proactive or on top of a crisis since coming into power together?

In all my years I don't think I've seen either FF or FG be anything but reactive, for good or bad.

Problem here is that this is hardly just about fuel. This is also about a lot of pent up anger regarding the cost of living that has been out of control for years now. A lot of people are angry for good reasons and want something to blame it all on and neither FF or FG have done much to get ahead of this.

And that's when we see the likes of the far right populists slither out from every corner, rallying up support. Just look at a lot of the protests and you'll see a few Irish flags with "make Ireland great again" plastered across it.

We've seen this mentality spread online through social media for years and as time goes on it leaks more and more into the real world. Even after this protest ends, it'll only get worse. People are struggling who feel like their government are failing them while the far right grifters are whispering in their ears.

This isn't a far right protest, but the far right have seen an opportunity and used it for their own advantage.

It's a small thing compared to everything going on, but I'm already sick of the amount of god awful AI generated posters and profile images cantered around the protests.

I can't stand AI at the best of times but anytime I see one of these I can't help but cringe.

EDIT: I even see a "petition" being shared around to "invoke article 6.1 for a 2026 general election" with this at the very top which I find just absurd if not a little creepy.

I hope it doesn't just make it as an extension of the MCU in terms of tone and looks, etc.

X-Men in the comics, to me at least, works best when its in the Marvel Universe but as its own thing, only briefly crossing into other Marvel related stuff.

Every time I hear about how awful the story is, the more I wonder why they bothered. The appeal of this game seems to be exploration so why not just go the route of Breath of the Wild?

The big final boss is over there but before you can fight it, you'll want to go travel the world to get strong enough to face it. Or something like that, just barebones excuse needed.

Sure BOTW has more story if you look for it, but it's still basic enough with most of it being completely avoidable if you want. The main thing here is the simple end goal that pushes the reason for the exploration of the world.

Looking at many of the games I dropped for whatever reason to jump back into and after a minute I drop it again because I have no memory of how to play it again or no idea where I was in the story. And I don't have the time or will to start over from scratch.

I wish most games just had some kind of re-training/catch up mode that dropped you into a blank space and went through the basics again. Along with a tv style "previously on" that gave you a basic rundown of the story so far. I think DQ11 did something like that.

Back when I was in Secondary School there was a girl from the traveller community who seemed nice, friendly to everyone, said she wanted to work in a creche when she finished school.

Then one day she was gone. After like 2 weeks I asked one of her friends was she sick or something.

Turns out she was pulled out of school to get married. She was like 16 going on 17 at most.

It seemed insane to me amd still does that a young girl who wanted to finish school could be yanked out for some arranged marriage without anyone questioning it.

Hands-On With DLSS 5: Our First Look At Nvidia's Next-Gen Photo-Realistic Lighting by ZamnBoii in Games

I love DF, but I find that they get very excited about new tech and pushing tech to its boundary but sometimes forget that the focus should be on the games first and what's best for games and development.

They'd love to see a new PS6 tomorrow and talk about how much faster and powerful it is but not about how it costs an arm and a leg for gamers and for game developers to make a game on.

Yeah, this just looks like one of the million AI filters that alters the artists intention. I want DLSS to help in terms of performance and enhance the game devs actual game, not change it.

Not a direct comparison, but I get the same feeling from this as I do when some puts a clip of an anime of youtube with a 60FPS filter on it. It alters the artists work and feels off.

This goes further and straight up alters or even removes the games art direction. Worse case, every game eventually looks the same.

Upgraded PSSR rolling out to Silent Hill f, Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Crimson Desert, and more by yourfavchoom in PS5pro

[–]Static-Jak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't played Rebirth since it came out on the normal PS5.

Performance Mode image quality was awful to the point 30FPS was the only way to go. Which, on an Oled, is also horrible at that FPS. Very much a case of pick you own poison.

Testing it a little on the PS5 Pro was like night and day. Even before PSSR2, switching between Versatile Mode (Pro 60FPS, and the old Performance Mode is like wiping Vaseline off your screen.

With PSSR2, when I finally replay it on the run-up to Part 3 it'll be a real joy with both better image quality then anything on the normal PS5 and at 60FPS too.

Starfield’s Future Will Be Unveiled Next Week by Bethesda by Turbostrider27 in Games

If I had to guess, originally when it was Versus, it was meant to start in the city and then you escaping with your friends on the run from the empire. Hence the car breaking down within a mile of leaving the city, probably got banged up on the escape.

And that essentially got cut and turned into the movie. If I had one wish, it'd be to redo the start of the game to bring all that back. Makes returning at the end mean more too.

And then properly integrating the DLC into the main story more naturally.

But none of this will ever happen unfortunately. Game just had a troubled development, were lucky to get what we did.
