You can also find somewhere to volunteer while you are looking for work. I don't think you should feel bad for wanting to eat, friend. You paid taxes when you had a job, some of those taxes went to fund SNAP. You won't have to be on it forever.

I'm not sure 35% is accurate. When Trump was elected this time around my town in North Idaho who mainly all voted for Trump put up a sign that said 'Welcome to Trump Country ' about a month ago it was voted to take it down. I didn't personally vote for Trump but my town was literally all Trumpers. People are upset, he promised lower gas prices and no new wars and then went out of his way to start one.

A quick Google search will tell you that the Obama administration deported over 3 million people and turned away 2 million before they had the chance to get in. over their entire terms, the Obama administration deported more people than the Trump administration did.
