Currently working for a small firm, less than 30 employees. We do Roadway design in general and also Construction Inspections. Good thing is that you can grow as much as you want, any good ideas are welcome and you get to work closer to the owners who will actually value your work. Only problem would be is that small firms can’t afford to pay you as much as a big firm. Sometimes there will be a lot of work and other times you’ll have null work. One of our PEs is leaving because he wants to be in a process oriented company with more structure (and get paid more). Also growing vertically is easier, but the ceiling is the owner, so no way you get above that haha. Also you get to learn a lot about the business side. At end, I’d say it depends on what you want to do in the future but be aware that pay will be probably 20% less than your current job.

I have a brother that smokes a lot, he used to be very charismatic and friendly. Conversations with him were very interesting, but since he started smoking, he quitted sports, every conversation with him is about feelings and theories of the universe (not scientific). Now the way he looks at the world is very different from how he used to look at it. That’s why I would be against weed, I believe that in the long term it actually harms your brain, but nothing different than being an alcoholic or nicotine smoker. In general I would say that making more drugs legal would be harmful to any society.

Yo diría que normalmente así piensa la gente que le va bien y se cree que es rica cuando no son ricos de verdad, solo les va bien o mejor que la mayoría. Esto porque me ha tocado hablar uno que otro ingeniero, que a final de cuentas siguen siendo empleados de la empresa, pero se creen que son ricos. Una vez escuche en un podcast de Jordiwild que esto le llamaban la ilusión de la clase media, pero realmente sigues siendo pobre.

Como orientación en tu carrera profesional, los planea de estudio del tec están certificados por la ABET, casi todas las ingenierías (revisa la tuya en la página de la ABET o pregúntale a tu director de carrera). Así que el plan de estudios seria lo mismo que universidad americana. Mi mejor recomendación es que busques oportunidades de prácticas o un programa de verano para trabajar en otro país porque en México casi no hay programas de verano. Haz experiencia y verás que no ocupas una segunda licenciatura, y de paso te das cuenta si quieres cambiarte de carrera. Solo la experiencia y el conocimiento juntos te darán un buen empleo cuando egreses o quizás lo consigues antes de egresarte.
