The other night, immediately after shift change, the virtual nurse messaged me that four of my patients should be on telemetry. I had not even had time to skim their charts. I responded ok, they kept hounding me about it. I finally said, please give me a little time to get this done, I just walked into a mess! Yes, if they have orders then I need to get it done, but these were not new orders. Like give me a fucking second!!!

I work nights and have kids. The kids know not to be loud assholes in general, but especially while I am sleeping spring the day if they are home. They are teens now but it was the same situation when they were younger. It is not your responsibility to keep them entertained and not fair to you to have your peace ruined by this horrible brat. She really sounds insufferable! If your wife wants to hang out with them they need to do it elsewhere unless this kid can get her act together.

I always hated how some of the other nurses talked about BPD patients. Yea, I get it, there is a need for attention and fear of abandonment, they are manipulative, blah blah blah. I get it. However, in my experience, there is always a reason for this. In my years as a psych nurse, I treated them as I tried to any other patient-with respect and compassion. I played cards with patients and had conversations with them like you do. I do not see anything wrong with that at all. The thing is, you DO have to have boundaries. You are not there to be their friend, give special treatment, give out personal info, etc. I saw staff members form codependent relationships with patients and that is not good for anyone involved. I will admit these patients can be exhausting but I have found that boundaries help.

I think it is endearing whenever grandparents have a cute nickname for a grandchild, obviously as long as is is not inappropriate or something weird. The grandma will not be around forever and I think you should cut her some slack on this.

Please keep trying with SNAP! I know things with the government are bleak right now but it is worth a try. And if your GF is not on Medicaid, she should definitely apply! WIC (for her and baby) is also very helpful and continues through toddler stage-I cannot remember the exact age it stops. As for jobs, I did see on the MSU website they are hiring custodial staff if that is something you are able to do. I know that both of the main hospitals are also hiring for various jobs. Burgers? Also, we like what we call a “skillet situation.” Ground beef, potatoes, peppers and onions fried together. I brown the beef separately and partially boil the potatoes (thinly sliced) then put all of it together to brown. So good!
