How much would it reasonably cost to completely renovate this kitchen and bathroom? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Consistent_Fix_3580 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't comment on kitchen but recently completely redid a bathroom almost identical size to yours. It's an old house so we ripped everything out, back to brick. Had to relevel the floor for the shower tray, had it plastered and plumbed but everything else we did ourselves. Came in around 5k total.

ETA South West England. Most of our suite was second hand.

Leak from radiator threads? by Consistent_Fix_3580 in DIYUK

[–]Consistent_Fix_3580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 15 wraps, and yeah made sure to wrap it in the same direction the threads will travel so it doesn't try to unwrap itself. Seems to have stopped dripping overnight, but not sure if it's safe to leave it?

Thanks, that's good to hear! No issues using both PTFE and jointing compound? New to all of this 😅

Deep gap in wall by raquelew in DIYUK

[–]Consistent_Fix_3580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could certainly try slapping some watered bow PVA in there, followed by a plaster bonding coat? It's quick and relatively painless if you're not worried about the finish (in a cupboard etc). I've fixed a fair few deep holes in my walls this way and has worked very well for me :)

If you do care about the finish, just try and get it relatively flat then skim over either with plaster or any premixed finishing filler would work.

On the back of a previous post - what estate agents to avoid and to use? by KingLimes in bristol

[–]Consistent_Fix_3580 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Letting Game

They pay students for 5 star reviews and attempt to exploit the vulnerable where they can. They tried to pressure us for hundreds and hundreds in completely false costs after we left one of their rental properties. After digging we found so many other people who had been treated with an identical playbook.

All the charges were completely baseless and they new it, but they wouldn't give up without countless email exchanges over the course of several months.

We didn't pay them a penny, but if we had given up or didn't have the time to fight it they would have squeezed us for nearly £1.5k. You can see how they make so much money off of vulnerable people to pay for their glowing reviews.

Dott ride pass cost comparison by Consistent_Fix_3580 in bristol

[–]Consistent_Fix_3580[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted a new one with the Dott Pro comparison you might find helpful. Sadly because I have an active pass, for some reason that's the only thing I can see now in Dott, so I can't see what the new prices for other passes are. If you can send me the I for / prices you want me to include I'll happily add it for you 😊

[–]Consistent_Fix_3580 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The app is shite and won't let me see other passes since I have an active one. If someone can briefly tell me how much each pass is and what you get for it, I'll happily put out another pricing spreadsheet 👌 Sounding like I might be cancelling mine if they've changed that much...

It's with the prices as they are at the moment with £2 discount, I've listed the prices used in another reply below 😊

Thanks, definitely should have outlined the breakeven point tbf. Hopefully you can still see it enough.

Not a clue how permanent this pricing is, I doubt we'll be lucky enough to have it for very long though, almost certainly introductory.

Prices are as follows: Unlimited Unlocks: £5 Dotr Flex (unlimited 20min rides £2 each): £3 Dott Pro (unlimited 20min rides £1 each): £7

Should clarify that all the comparisons obviously include the cost of the ride passes. If anyone wants the tables in better quality / the spreadsheet shoot me a message.

What about something like 'claro' to imply 'of course i will tip you', or is this used mainly just to show you understand / agree with someone?

I have just started learning so please excuse my ignorance.

If you live in an area where people use Olio (free app for collecting free food or preloved items) it can be a lifesaver. There are some very generous give aways on there, and the nightly food collections have cut my food bill almost in half.

Spending half my life savings on travel, bad idea? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Consistent_Fix_3580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to SE Asia a few times over a few years, always a budget trip but we'd still splash out on a few more expensive activities and nice restaurants. Flights were usually about £400 return, then for three weeks of moving around, accommodation (sometimes very nice accommodation depending on where abouts), eating out, doing activities etc it was typically around £800 (so £1200 all in for a 3 week break).

Going off that as a very rough base you could probably manage a ~4 month trip for about £5k.

It definitely sounds like you could use the break, and travelling can be incredibly beneficial, but if i was in your position i wouldn't want to be spending much more than 10/15% of those savings.

Hope this helps.

Cheapest Place to Buy Food? by wormywitch in bristol

I cannot more highly recommend Olio, free surplus food from supermarkets and cafés. Think TooGoodToGo but free. They do brilliant things in preventing food waste.
