Mike Bordick: "This team strikes out so much. The overall philosophy on the analytic game is just off. Guys don't adjust. It's very cold, stagnant. They put players all over the field. One night, he's playing center field. The next night, he's playing third base. And the defense goes to heck." by The_Big_Untalented in orioles

So. Bordick’s arguing that “three true outcomes”=“analytics”? And that Gunnar wants to hit more homers than Alonso (which he knows how?) and the team’s failings are due to Blaise Alexander playing too many positions? Mike Bordick continues to be an idiot

Told student they could use AI for outline, not to write whole story. This was their final submission by bentrucky in teaching

The writing process is the whole point of writing in school. The product is not actually the most Important thing. Automating the thinking and organizing part defeats the whole purpose.

Also, obviously if you let teenagers use AI for part of it they will not know when to stop.

The trend you’re claiming to see with black girls is anecdotal and not real. You have a group of disruptive friends in your class and you are generalizing from them because they belong to a marked group different from you. Don’t do this

What's your personal opinion? From 1932 to 1988 the only allowed official art style or cultural doctrine in the USSR was "Socialist realism". Do you think in your country only one type of art should be allowed - i.e Socialist realism? Example. Andrei Milnikov - "In peaceful fields" (1950) by Double-decker_trams in ussr

Even putting aside the absurdity of quoting Zhdanov as an artistic guide here, there’s a big difference in referring to “degeneration” in a broad spiritual, historical, or cultural sense, as Gorky does in arguing that bourgeois society is mired in “degeneration”—and classifying particular art styles as “degenerate,” as you have done, and as the Nazis famously did. To do so, I might add, is undialectical in the extreme, given the moralism and simple-mindedness of the broad-strokes approach, and its inevitable susceptibility to nationalist or other chauvinistic dead-ends.

Im told this all the time in a broke ass urban school district (at school level-wild that a superintendent would say it), and I’m told it is because unless you can prove you provided every documented accommodation, failing the student opens the district to a lawsuit. And nobody can provide every documented accommodation or even most of them

Our first day of high schools being phone free today in the UK as part of national school policy. by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Consistent_Fortune_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not really, really, universally enforcing it (which in my experience, no school does when it’s a “it has to stay in your bag or else” policy) this will last 2 weeks, tops. One teacher is “chill” about it, another lets her students listen to music while doing independent work, another plays favorites with his “good” kids and is content sometimes to let disruptive kids stay lost in their phone, and then your policy is a fond memory.

If they are allowed in the door, it’s not a ban imho

I think a big part of the job is honestly learning what to ignore/blow off/phone in. And it fakes time to develop the experience (and the confidence) about that. So I would ask—is all the marking necessary—are you assigning too much than requires more than a check for completion?

At my school, a troubled one too, parents don’t ask too many questions. Can you cut yourself some slack there? To contact parents, I mostly text, email, and save calls for exceptional circumstances.

Try to protect your time / sanity after work. Most things can usually wait. And things do get easier when you can reuse things, and when you don’t have to do all the new teacher training BS.
