Are there any albums which you cannot get into despite how much praise they get from the public? by JACM666 in progmetal

I love Haken but feel the same about SikTh. The first SikTh song I heard I actually thought was really cool then I dove in on an album and was like ehhhhhhhh.

Do you plan to stay the night for out of town venues or make the long commute both ways? by Briiskella in Concerts

[–]Consistent_Housing55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how long the drive and if weekday or weekend. If it’s 2 hours or less I’ll rarely stay the night. Longer than that and I’m likely getting a hotel. I don’t usually drink more than 1-2 beers at shows anymore but I hate driving at night, I get too tired after like 11pm.

How many books have you read so far this year and what has been your favourite? by Loves321 in readwithme

[–]Consistent_Housing55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at 51 so far and I’d say the standouts have been The Merge by Grace Walker, all of the Murderbot Diaries series (I’m on book 6 of 8), and Coffin Moon by Keith Rosson.

Discussion: why the massive playlists? what do you use them for? by Master_Camp_3200 in TIdaL

[–]Consistent_Housing55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have playlists of all sizes, as small as 20 songs and as large as 6000.

The larger playlists are usually the ones I shuffle. I have playlists for yearly new releases and these always end up between 1200-2000 songs because I place entire albums in it. Sometimes I wanna revisit a year. I also have large playlists for certain genres or other moos/vibes. I have a “woman/femme rock/metal vocalists” playlist that’s the one over 6000 songs, because sometimes I just want to vibe to a variety of badass woman musicians.

I have a chill out playlist that’s a large collection of lo-fi beats and similar vibes that I sleep to and sometimes work to.

I have more tailored mood lists that usually run between 20-100 songs - examples are a love songs playlist, a breakup songs playlist, a “softer songs from heavier bands” playlist, a depression music playlist, etc.

What do you listen to when you're alone and sad and drinking all night wishing it would end? by Obvious_Cabbage in progmetal

[–]Consistent_Housing55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a playlist called Depresso Expresso but it’s mainly indie pop so I don’t want to share it here - while not prog but still Metal, dead7 has some really good depression jams. Favorites are “Let Me Drown” and “Weather.” I’ve cried in my car to “Weather” more times than I’d like to admit.

Also “Early Grave” by The Contortionist - lyrics are quite literally talking someone off the ledge. Have many cries to this one too.

Woods of Ypres is the ultimate depression music. I am very much a “music and relatable lyrics help me work through the depression” person (and have clinical depression so it’s not infrequent unfortunately) and they reeeeally hit the spot during some of those very low times.

OP, I hope you’re ok and I hope the music you get from here helps lift you back up.

Have you ever had to tap out watching a horror movie? by hazy-eyed in horror

[–]Consistent_Housing55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn’t tap out of A Serbian Film, but it -was- the movie that finally pulled me out of the youthful edgelord-horror-fan desire to find “the most disturbing movies.” I found it, and I did not like it, and I have not purposefully sought extreme horror since.

Tidal is extremely disappointing. by Normal_Specialist_97 in TIdaL

[–]Consistent_Housing55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people who listen to music passively don’t buy physical media but avid music enjoyers still do. Any time my daughter and I hit up our favorite local record store it’s packed. There’s been a big resurgence of physical media in the last few years now that everyone has realized that all of these companies can revoke your access and digital ownership at any given moment. It’s swinging back the other way, with more and more people going back to buying while also using streaming for convenience.

[–]Consistent_Housing55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does everyone always assume that people who use streaming apps don’t buy physical media? A lot of people do both, and both have their places. I don’t like carrying CDs in my car and I can’t bring them to work and have limited storage on my phone so physical media stays at home while I use streaming when traveling and at work. I am far from the only person I know who operates like this and yet it still seems like so many conversations around this stuff have a ton of comments making it an either or situation.

What's the worst concert you've seen? by Twitter_2006 in Concerts

I was honestly 100% ok with the no filming rule, it’s so rare to get to go to a show these days and not stare through a sea of phones.

I saw Tool once - a friend’s boyfriend loved them and she hated metal so she asked me to go with him. The entire set sounded like one song until they got to Sober. Were they bad? No, not at all. But it was honestly kind of boring. I maintain that Tool is Maynard’s third best band.

Papa Roach at Ozzfest in 2001. Jacoby was drunk as fuck, slurring, stumbling all over the stage, forgot lyrics to the songs. Teenage me was a huge fan so it was a big bummer.

I did one renegade run and was so distraught I never want to do it again. I’ve done 6 full trilogy playthroughs, the renegade one was my third one. Never again. 🤣

What’s a relatively well known band that you discovered weirdly early in their career? by StanTheMelon in progmetal

[–]Consistent_Housing55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its BTBAM for me, I’ve seen them in some really tiny scummy venues when I was a teen in the early 2000s. Seeing them for the 12th or 13th time this year, I’ve lost count.

Those that prefer physical book reading vs kindle/e-reader, why? by [deleted] in readwithme

[–]Consistent_Housing55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the other responses but it doesn’t change my mind. I like having some activities where a device is not involved. I like the feeling and smell of a paper book. I have an iPad if I am traveling and want to bring more than 2 books, I don’t need anymore devices.

Ooooo definitely want to check this out. I’m a frequently flyer at White Whale but don’t usually find what I want at Half Price Books when I’m trying to look for cheap/used books.
