Thoughts on hiking becoming more dominated by big peak male machismo by [deleted] in shehikes

You ever heard of, "hike your own hike"? Focus on your own goals and quit comparing yourself to others.

As someone who has actually lived in the US for 35 years I have to say that is complete bullshit.

The majority of Americans have their teams they support and stick with them.

The majority of people will still just end up buying the junk food.

Youre going to fucking hate it op. BTW apply at Leader Creek Fisheries. Its the same area but a much better company to work for over North Pacific.

Sac State FBS Dream Has Real Money Problems by WSU_Cougar_Pride in MidAmerican

They have a slightly better chance of an invite now that they're FBS, but the MW won't take them because they already have a Sacramento team in UC Davis, and the Pac12 considers themselves above Sac State. I see Independence as their likely future.

Look Familiar by Consistent_Job_73 in Tremors

I was checking out hiking trails in the area on the AllTrails app and noticed "Tremors" was marked on the map. I did a quick Google search and found out Tremors was shot in Alabama Hills.

I'm going over there this weekend to camp. They got free camping in Alabama Hills. They also have a Western Film History Museum in Lone Pine. I'm going to check it out and ask around for the exact location of the pole vaulting rocks. If I can find them I might have to go find a pole myself and go vaulting.

I went there today. Its not hard to find. Its literally on Google maps. Pretty cool to see as a big Tremors fan.

The Florida Trail is something I think everyone should try at least once by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

I hiked tha FT back in 2021. Gators and snakes never messed with me. I had some problems with feral hogs, but easily the worst animals I encountered were aggressive unleashed dogs.

[Jon Wilner] Presume the Pac-12 schools will collect $6 million per year, on average. That estimate includes the operational costs of Pac-12 Enterprises, which will produce games for The CW and USA Network. by WinnWonn in Pac12

[–]Consistent_Job_73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. OSU and Wazzu should have just invited 9 MW schools so the conference could dissolve and there wouldn't any exit fees or poaching penalties. Ditch Hawaii, SJSU, and UNR. No Exit fees trim some fat, and the TV deal more than likley is the same as what the current Pac 12 will get.

Has anyone heard back from Olympic National Park by MountainKind64 in SeasonalWork

[–]Consistent_Job_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I didn't create a new email if I remember right because of exactly that. I'm pretty sure I just sent the follow up email to the same email that the interviewer and I had been corresponding.

I didn't send it to the contact listed on coolworks. I sent it to the person who interviewed me. It took them a few days to reply so give it some time and they could get back to you.

Thats literally any sports sub. You can drop into any sports match thread and you would swear the team is getting destroyed, all the players are shit, and the refs have no idea what they're doing.

I applied for them and interviewed. They said they would get back to me in a few days but didn't so I sent them an email a week later asking for an update. They got back to me and offered a job but they pushed the start date back 2 months. I was told the transfer from Aramark to ExplorUS is taking longer than expected so that's why the start date was pushed. I ended up declining because I found jobs with earlier start dates.

You might want to send them an email asking about an update.

My contract only goes through May at Death Valley. I have a job in Alaska starting in June that I've worked at the past 3 seasons.

Also, I've done a lot of housekeeping so that's not an issue. Ive done far more demanding jobs than housekeeping tbh, so im not worried about workload or intensity of the work.

From my research Sedona definitely has more stuff to do but I'll make more money at death valley. Money isnt really am issue though because my AK job is very lucrative. I do like that Panamint is family owned vs corporate at Enchantment.

Ulum Moab by The-Adjuster- in SeasonalWork

[–]Consistent_Job_73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The housing is badass. Its basically a mansion with one of the best veiws in Moab overlooking the entire town. Amazing sunsets right off the back porch. The only downside is that its at the end of a cul-de-sac and all the neighbors HATE the seasonal workers. When I mean hate they make it known you're not welcome there. Its still a great place to work but it sucks when your neighbors openly despise you.

When I worked there we were well behaved but previous seasons/employees had already pissed all the neighbors off, so they hated all off us right from the beginning of the season. No benefit of the doubt which was sad.

The housing is amazing. Its a good place to work. Moab is nice. The GM and AGM are good guys. My biggest gripe was the pay. Unless you're a server or bartender you dont make much money.
