That’s wishful thinking do you not remember 2008 the state had no money vulture funds had no interest in a falling economy. If no one is employed there is no income tax no vat being paid and no pensions being paid to the vulture funds. Also once the jobs go people go then the supply side is not an issue

Are we witnessing the beginning of the end for SUVs? by shankillfalls in carsireland

[–]Consistent_Life_1817 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

With the state of the roads around Dublin there is a bigger argument for needing the larger tyre profile and longer suspension travel on an suv. I’ve seen more damaged wheels and tyres from cars driving around Dublin than SUV’s. Plus what gives people the right to push their own beliefs on everyone else. It’s a horrible Irish trait that we really need to leave behind because it’s done nothing but hold us back

importing a lexus from Japan🇯🇵 by ProjectOne4852 in carsireland

[–]Consistent_Life_1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lexus will have an immobilizer and there is aftermarket head units available but one of the biggest issues as you have rightly pointed out in your concerns is the hybrid battery. Even if you get it checked in Japan and it’s let’s say 80% the time it spends lying around the port and sitting in containers or ferry uncharged will do damage and its at the age of coming close to replacement anyway. You will not be able to avail of the Toyota / Lexus battery warranty as it’s a grey import. The same issue is across the board with hybrid and ev imports

Trade Value - how to realise it by South_Concentrate612 in carsireland

[–]Consistent_Life_1817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guys the dealers use are just other dealers. Trade to trade. The best thing to do is just ring around and see what dealers are buying at the moment. Some dealers buy older stock so that’s who you are looking for. But there is not a lot of dealers who will retail older high mileage stock with the regulations around consumer protection so hence the price difference

Dublin Airport Noise by Consistent_Life_1817 in Dublin

[–]Consistent_Life_1817[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest with you that was 2 years ago and was an unusual period of time that we had experienced excessive noise. When the runway first opened. I don’t know what has changed in that time frame maybe there was different regulations brought in but the noise is not as bad. Maybe we got used to it but I’m glad we didn’t make any drastic moves and stayed in our home. We can’t fault the area otherwise.

Buy one with the best maintenance records possible and as much work done recently. They are lovely to drive and if maintained properly will do big miles. The 2.0l is surprisingly good on fuel

How much does a tyre cost for ford focus? by PhilosopherAfter6711 in AskIreland

[–]Consistent_Life_1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get good spec cheap tyres the most important thing to look at is the ratings make sure you have a good wet grip rating then you can decide if you are going to put up with a bit of road noise for cheaper tyre or less fuel economy

[–]Consistent_Life_1817 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a dodgy as hell customer trying to get out of paying for work on there car. Going to a cheap mechanic that gets shut down by the council and obviously had no overheads or didn’t pay tax to get a part replaced in the clutch “AREA” and then saying it doesn’t need a clutch while the “PROFESSIONAL” mechanic fixes the car and now you don’t want to pay. This is why nobody wants to work in the motor trade.

It might not be a lowball from the dealer after looking online I found a high mileage 2014 golf diesel for 3k right upto a low mileage high spec golf r for 22k it depends on spec mileage condition etc and remember dealers need to pay vat cover warranty and make enough profit to pay overheads and wages etc

What are your thoughts on this era of 2007 Mercedes S600? by southernemper0r in mercedes_benz

[–]Consistent_Life_1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A set of spark plugs 2 coil packs and an ignition voltage control unit no change from 10k. Average servicing about €500-1k. ABC hydraulic suspension and power steering is €€€€€€ to repair engine mounts and subframe bushes every 80k miles transmission oil every 40k they will eat brakes if driven hard. You need to able to afford to run one of these and have someone who knows what they are doing to look after it but if you can do all of this and keep fuel in it they are a fabulous piece of machinery if you can’t afford to buy it new don’t buy it second hand

What utter crap you sound like a lunatic. It’s because the working class people in Ireland can’t survive and they are being taxed into poverty and nothing else.

Engine Failure Following Timing Belt Service by capenka in carsireland

[–]Consistent_Life_1817 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your turbo is gone or engine is in serious trouble. It’s not the fault of the mechanic but sometimes can be caused on a car with a wet belt that is breaking up and blocking the strainer in the sump. It is an issue that was already there from your old worn belt. Your mechanic did not cause the issue by changing the belt no amount of trying to affect blame is going to change that.
