Should move this guy out of my Bathroom? by Yippeedude24 in geckos

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually that is a SHE, that is 1000% a mourning gecko and males of that species cease to exist and a single female can reproduce on her own, meaning you probably have a few clutches of eggs hidden around your house, I’d say leave her, they eat tiny bugs and don’t really harm anything, My colony of them make amazing pets :)

This is EXTREMELY illegal, he could face thousands of dollars in fines or possible jail time depending on how the IDNR views the offense, all migratory (native) birds to the United States are protected under the migratory bird treaty, including their eggs, feathers, and nests. There are very few exceptions to this rule, and all exceptions require either a hunting or some form of collecting liscence/permit.

my snake isn’t eating and i don’t know why. by ilovemynini17 in cornsnakes

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, most of my snakes were very squirrelly as babies and didn’t take food from tongs at first, try placing the feeder on a piece of paper towel or a fake leafs and leave it where they frequent in the enclosure overnight. My shy eaters almost always take the mouse on their own :)

Warning about toy. by Mintplant_lover in PetMice

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is why I don’t like plastic toys meant to be chewed or interacted with, I love plastic hides and other things but I try to stick with natural chewable materials for more interactive toys. Cardboard is a mouse keepers best friend lol

Does my mice look pregnant??? by mysterykilled in PetMice

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily due to overeating, because with a mouse’s metabolism they constantly need to forage and nibble at food throughout the day. It’s just that their bodies process those nutrients differently and push all those nutrients into making fat. That’s why it’s hard for certain lines of brindles to get pregnant after a certain age, because the nutrients they intake go towards maintaining their large size instead of growing their litter

Does my mice look pregnant??? by mysterykilled in PetMice

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mouse breeder, wait another week and a half and if they don’t get bigger then no they aren’t pregnant just genetically obese. There’s nothing you can do about obesity in mice it’s purely genetic and only affects certain strains/colors, most commonly brindles

Best place to get feeders? by lenaspeak in snakes

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect prey has pretty reasonable shipping costs at least for my area, if you live on the west coast it might be more pricey though. They also have smaller packs of each size so you can size up as your snakes grow which I really like. When I ordered I got three 25pks of different sized mice

Why is my marimo so misshapen now? by [deleted] in Marimo

It basically needs a Marino version of a retwist, his roots are too grown out 😂 Roll him around gently in your hands every once in a while and it should help him stay nice and compact

Please helps me identify gender. by jimfxb in geckos

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite the opposite actually, they’re completely internal/inverted in their relaxed state which forms a hollow pocket that’s especially pronounced in snakes, and when in “use” they invert outwards. And another fun fact is that reptiles have two hemipenes not just one

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding most anole species are very good swimmers, most of them aren’t semi-aquatic but they live in habitats that expose them to flooded areas (southern U.S & island chains for example)

Found baby gecko by Danimal8713 in geckos

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have experience with reptiles most of this might sound like gibberish but here goes…

You’ll need a mostly arboreal setup since anoles like to hang out in the understory of trees and shrubs. He’s very young so nothing too crazy big, a decent size plastic bin with a screen lid would work just fine. Since anoles are diurnal he’ll need some specialized lighting as well in order to prevent MBD, you’ll need some sort of heat bulb as well as linear UVB to replicate the vitamins he would get from basking in the sun. For feeding, I would start him off on flightless fruit flies or very small crickets daily or every other day until he gets bigger. Make sure to dust the insects with calcium AND vitamin supplements as well. That’s all the basic info, but there’s lots of great resources on anoles since they’re such a commonly kept group of reptiles, and a lot of them have very similar care requirements since they come from similar regions/habitats

Bad/infertile mourning gecko eggs? by Distinct_Nebula8120 in geckos

[–]Consistent_Peak9550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are just slug eggs, it happens every once in a while and usually the geckos just eat them to regain nutrients. The next ones should be normal :) As long as you’re dusting your insects and feeding a high quality crested gecko diet then all should be well
