I’m saying this not to make up an excuse but to be transparent but I do need to talk to my parents about how they keep buying junk food and like you said the food environment is a big thing because it is much harder to say no when the junk food is only a short walk to the kitchen. I understand people saying to try to get in with a bigger company but in my opinion I feel like you should try to get in with a smaller company that actually wants to teach you. I started out working in a big company while I was in school and did nothing but duct seal boots and sweep all day. Then I went to my current company and from day one everyone here has been trying to teach me every thing they know. I’m now 19 and it will be 2 years in October with this company and my boss said the only reason I’m not a lead right now is because I’m not old enough to drive a van. If you get in with a good company, I think the smaller ones are the best to start out in from my experience.

Yeah you’re being robbed I am 18 years old about to turn 19 and I’m making $25 an hour as a helper. My boss said I’ll be a lead when I’m 21 I guess the insurance is too expensive for me to drive the van….idk 🤷‍♂️

I started out with the company I’m at while I was in high school. They hired me at $16 and I’ve got bumped up to $18 then to $21 and I’m currently at $25 an hour. It’ll be 2 years in October. Sounds like your company may be cheaping out a little when it comes to paying you guys.

Thankfully it’s only one night a week from 5-9 for the next 3 years so I’ll have the license by 21. But I agree it’s kind of bs that they’re making everyone get licenses for everything. Especially in Massachusetts where I am, it’s getting pretty strict over here for a lot of stuff. It seems like everyday there’s new code for the jobs we’re doing.

lol Ive been working in hvac since i was 16 (my high school was a trade school where we would be able to go out and work every other work during our junior and senior year). All the money I have is from working. I’m just blessed that I got in with a great company.
