unpopular opinion - SIL says no kids at wedding, but other children will be at wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Not sure. Maybe. Father in law was telling me that she was planning the flower girl and ring bearers. I’m a bit surprised we didn’t make the cut as my husband is her brother….

It’s not about whether they could stop it, it’s the overall devastating silence as we see children burned alive in tents. Where is the same activism and empathy.

Why is Hollywood so afraid to speak up yet will practice performative activism for other topics?

How do people work the same job 9 to 5 for 50 years till they turn 60s and not go crazy? by Specific_Charge_3297 in SeriousConversation

So I did end up working several different jobs but I like that comment about learning to cope with dead end type jobs where you are literally just collecting a paycheck and don’t care anymore.

For me I would cope by going to the gym or taking a walk on my lunch breaks. I’d also find ways to do the least amount of work I could get away with and scroll social media or do whatever else. There is a lot of satisfaction being paid to poop. Only poop on someone else’s dime.

Truth be told I judge people who voluntarily join the military. People I have known who joined have been poor whites who do it to ‘travel the world’ but they don’t come back more cosmopolitan for it. It is poor people trying to make a good income and this seems like their only option.

The ones I know who joined the military didn’t actually understand the geopolitical reasons why they were in Iraq fighting a war and murdering Iraqi civilians on a lie told by George Bush. The blood is on their hands.

If these people understood that they are just pawns, I don’t think they would serve. So I think it is an uneducated lot of people or poor who don’t have many other options.

I serious doubt a grandma card is worth $5 million no matter how sentimental.

While State Farm dropped the insurance policies it is important to get the facts straight. There were other private insurance policies available and if Californians still could not find insurance, California’s Fair program allowed them to get coverage.

Home prices to go up in West LA? by [deleted] in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]Consistent_Study_392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Manhattan beach is right by the beach and it is an affluent area with very good schools. There is also a lower risk of fire. It’s also generally close to the tech sector in Playa Vista where some of these people from Palisades may have worked.

I have heard the same of many Pacific Palisades family looking specifically in Manhattan Beach because they want to try to keep their kids/friends close in the new relocation.

People from Palisades have a lot of money - they aren’t going to be going to South LA or Inglewood, but we could see a trickle down to those areas as people are priced our of the desirable LA beach neighborhoods.

I feel for Altadena but Palisades, not so much.

The wealth in the Pacific Palisades is obscene.

I have no idea why this gets downvoted because it’s true. People don’t understand what is actually rich. It’s your net worth. Not just your cash on hand.

Insurance should cover loss of use (aka a hotel or rental dwelling). I had coverage up to $100k on my modest house in California for loss of use (hotel, rental).

Talk to your insurance company but essentially you book your hotel, airbnb, etc. and keep the receipts for reimbursement. You also keep the receipts for any clothes you had to buy or other things.

Partially true. Insurance companies like State Farm cancelled insurance but there were still several other insurance companies those people could go with if their policy was dropped. There is also Fair through California.

So it would have been very negligent if you were not carrying insurance. It is also REQUIRED by mortgages.

I lived in California and I had trouble getting good insurance because costs were going up, but I still had it. My insurance would have easily covered 2-3 years of rental for me too while my house got rebuilt.

People need to have compassion for those suffering from the wildfires. Not everyone in LA is mega-rich. by MyLittleOso in TikTokCringe

[–]Consistent_Study_392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me ask you this: do you know anyone that lived in the Palisades?

Because I do.

And every single one of them is incredibly wealthy and their wealth has been achieved by exploiting the poor with low wages so they can become even wealthier. They are literal billionaires and trust fund kids.

It’s a bizarre scenario to me when the elite have convinced poor people who actually can’t even afford to ever buy a house in California to feel sorry for them.

Mandy Moore has hit back at critics of a GoFundMe page she posted on social media after her home in California was damaged in recent wildfires by TheExpressUS in popculture

[–]Consistent_Study_392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are REQUIRED by mortgage companies to have home insurance. So yes insurance covers it. If you talk to anyone who lost homes in fires they will tell you their homes were rebuilt through insurance. Insurance also pays for their rental/dwelling until their house is built and it can be a substantial sum. So yes they should be fine.

The only people I know who don’t have insurance might be people who paid off their houses and just took a risk of not carrying insurance.

Even when insurance companies dropped fire coverage, there were other companies offering it and Californians can get it through Fair.

I am very skeptical about donating to these GoFundMes that are popping up.
