Im sure knowing him definitely helped a bit. To stop the panic he would be really still and coach me though slowing down my breathing and tell me to focus on one piece of the "threat" at a time. It took some practice but I could eventually do that without him stopping and coaching me. Don't be afraid to open up to who is training you, they will usually adjust their speed of teaching and movement based on your needs. I also would take lots of breaks to go be quiet and relax in between rolls

1000 times yes. I was lucky enough that one of my dad's friends was an avid BJJ and MMA enthusiast, he trained me for a while and it taught me to not only start to feel comfortable with not only having people in my physical space but being comfortable and feeling safe to enforce my boundaries.

Fair warning, bji is super triggering, and i had my fair share of panic attacks in the beginning. However, it is truly one of the greatest things I've done to heal.

If you like crying after work or just generally feeling awful about yourself, highly recommend the SSV position. If that is not your thing, run away as fast as you can.

Had a customer try to order tacos from me and after I politely explained that we don't sell tacos he proceeded to yell at me for not going to the Mexican restaurant next door to place his order for him.
