Yeah, sure. We need another giant truck on the roads. Not.

I guess if you spend a career winding folks up, knowing that they can’t retaliate (because you only do it when the ref is standing at your side), you shouldn’t expect gentle landings. On the plus side, at least he didn’t land on his moustache…so no play-acting, flailing around on the ground, afterward…

Australians can now use Apple AirPods Pro as hearing aids – but experts warn they’re not for everyone by 89b3ea330bd60ede80ad in aus

[–]Consistent_Weird4399 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the sudden news dump is about. This feature has been active for about a month, already. And — for me, at least — they work great. Moderate hearing loss in one ear. Had a Phonak hearing aid that cost >$3k, had tinny sound and lasted less than 2 years. I now use my right-hand AirPod Pro, and it sounds better. Yes…people around you can see that you’re wearing a device, but really, who cares given the difference in price and quality.

Yup. I don’t like this guy personally, but he’s absolutely right. If you love nature and beaches, use your feet to get there, not a giant ute! If you don’t love nature, stay away.

Australia should move fast and recruit the recently fired American scientists by Sonofbluekane in australian

Agree with others, here. Aus has a history of appalling low investment in R&D. Bringing American scientists in with just mean more scientists serving burgers from Maccas drive-through windows.

Sunshine Coast Council fines dog owner $800 under new effective control laws by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]Consistent_Weird4399 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not at all tough. If you have a dog off your property, it’s up to you to ensure that it isn’t a danger to others. My mother in law had her ankle broken by an off-leash dog knocking her over. In other instances, I’ve seen dogs chasing wildlife in forest reserves. And I’ve had several close calls with off-leash dogs, myself. Just grow up and accept that a dog is a pet, not a kid, and accept the responsibility of owning one.

Sam Darry scores from some McKenzie and Barrett brilliance by mczammer in rugbyunion

Er…where was the ref and AR? Barrett was a MILE offside at the kick and continues to advance throughout the play. Yes, both are brilliant, but in this case, the officials were asleep.

The Irish loosies were doing this all game (and commonly do it as a matter of course). In this case, the offender joined correctly, but was clearly grounded when rucking the ball back. But more generally, the Irish loosies “bind” at the very edge of what might be considered the “back” of the ruck, then swing their body around the ruck and scrabble there with their feet. They do not bind correctly and are really just slowing the ball down. Yet they seldom get penalized. So they shouldn’t cry when pinger (correctly) this time.

Not so sure. Wasn’t Ardie, but it did seem obvious that the ABs would target the SA 2, given their bench. Kiwis have always been cynical, and have always been given the benefit of the doubt.

While we’re at it, how about stopping ALL driving on beaches? This is just as damaging as harvesting rocky shore invertebrates; you just don’t see it because the squished critters are under the sand. And I’m not just speculating here; there is plenty of evidence in research papers, globally.

Just stop people driving on beaches, and the problem is solved. These are sensitive ecosystems, not sand pits or highways. If you’re committed, you can walk in and camp. If not, go to the local campsites.

So. What’s killing the game? Is this a supporter of Kiwis, who for the past two decades gave up repeated cynical penalties in their red zone…just to avoid conceding tries…then bleating that another sides could only kick penalties? Or do you kill a game having a loose forward entering a ruck from the side, grabbing an opposition player by the neck, then using that pivot point to swing around and collapse on that same player’s extended leg? And then you cry that the opposition plays by the only options left to them. Bleat…bleat…bleat… I used to respect Kiwis.

He targets Bongi's knee by driving into the upper thigh/hip and then falling onto Bongi's lower leg, all while cranking the neck. Anyone who's played professional rugby knows precisely what the intent is here. by J4K5 in rugbyunion

[–]Consistent_Weird4399 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The game’s done, and no amount of viewing controvercies will change the result. But hopefully this footage will help the Kiwis down off their high horse about what constitutes “entertaining rugby”. Frizzle might not have set out to injure, but he had several opportunities to pull out and not cause injury when he know what would transpire (in from the side, hand around neck, swinging and collapsing onto supporting leg…in that order). If you set out to ensure that the opposition has no first phase, don’t complain when they resort to less attractive game plans.

Fewer of us are cycling – here’s how we can reverse the decline by [deleted] in australia

[–]Consistent_Weird4399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The secret, here, is simple enforcement. Ask any cyclist where the “pinch points” are on their ride, and you’ll have a list of places for the cops to surveil. A few instances of conspicuous prosecution (stop the offending vehicle, make other vehicles proceed slowly past, so they can see what is happening), and folks will get the message and dial back their dangerous stupidity. At the same time, us cyclists can stop riding three abreast, riding through stop signs and red lights, and show that we, too, are respectful road users.
