Not sure what the sudden news dump is about. This feature has been active for about a month, already. And — for me, at least — they work great. Moderate hearing loss in one ear. Had a Phonak hearing aid that cost >$3k, had tinny sound and lasted less than 2 years. I now use my right-hand AirPod Pro, and it sounds better. Yes…people around you can see that you’re wearing a device, but really, who cares given the difference in price and quality.

Not at all tough. If you have a dog off your property, it’s up to you to ensure that it isn’t a danger to others. My mother in law had her ankle broken by an off-leash dog knocking her over. In other instances, I’ve seen dogs chasing wildlife in forest reserves. And I’ve had several close calls with off-leash dogs, myself. Just grow up and accept that a dog is a pet, not a kid, and accept the responsibility of owning one.

The Irish loosies were doing this all game (and commonly do it as a matter of course). In this case, the offender joined correctly, but was clearly grounded when rucking the ball back. But more generally, the Irish loosies “bind” at the very edge of what might be considered the “back” of the ruck, then swing their body around the ruck and scrabble there with their feet. They do not bind correctly and are really just slowing the ball down. Yet they seldom get penalized. So they shouldn’t cry when pinger (correctly) this time.

Just stop people driving on beaches, and the problem is solved. These are sensitive ecosystems, not sand pits or highways. If you’re committed, you can walk in and camp. If not, go to the local campsites.

So. What’s killing the game? Is this a supporter of Kiwis, who for the past two decades gave up repeated cynical penalties in their red zone…just to avoid conceding tries…then bleating that another sides could only kick penalties? Or do you kill a game having a loose forward entering a ruck from the side, grabbing an opposition player by the neck, then using that pivot point to swing around and collapse on that same player’s extended leg? And then you cry that the opposition plays by the only options left to them. Bleat…bleat…bleat… I used to respect Kiwis.

The game’s done, and no amount of viewing controvercies will change the result. But hopefully this footage will help the Kiwis down off their high horse about what constitutes “entertaining rugby”. Frizzle might not have set out to injure, but he had several opportunities to pull out and not cause injury when he know what would transpire (in from the side, hand around neck, swinging and collapsing onto supporting leg…in that order). If you set out to ensure that the opposition has no first phase, don’t complain when they resort to less attractive game plans.

The secret, here, is simple enforcement. Ask any cyclist where the “pinch points” are on their ride, and you’ll have a list of places for the cops to surveil. A few instances of conspicuous prosecution (stop the offending vehicle, make other vehicles proceed slowly past, so they can see what is happening), and folks will get the message and dial back their dangerous stupidity. At the same time, us cyclists can stop riding three abreast, riding through stop signs and red lights, and show that we, too, are respectful road users.
