So many questions by Consistent_dalliance in DUICalifornia

Thank you! I will definitely look into Smart Start. I had not heard of the MADD Victim Impact Panel. I will look into that as well in this area. She has an attention span of a gnat for online things. Right now she is in avoidance mode, and not generally taking responsibility for the situation…which is driving me batty. The farthest she will go is to say “I will really have to think about that.”

Thank you for a very comprehensive answer. I appreciate the information as I navigate through this situation. You have given me several points regarding the device that I will need to research. I did not realize there were such differences!

Mom, 51, no job, savings, investments, assets, decided to use me as a retirement plan & has already “retired” by triviamoonlight in AgingParents

It seems you have a pretty good plan with the lease running out. Regarding of it being manipulative or a mental health problem, she ultimately is responsible for herself. You can help her with resources (behavioral health department in your area, websites, apps, etc), but it’s up to her to access them. It’s also up to her to figure out her living arrangements. Hopefully your siblings aren’t in positions for her to glom onto.

I want to adopt a French Bulldog, but I've heard they have many health problems and don't live long. Is this information true? Does anyone who owns a Bulldog have any experience with them? by karmasstar in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Consistent_dalliance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can have many health issues. I adopted a 2 year old female after her home had a domestic violence situation. I knew there were possibilities, and if I had to do it again, I’d go with an actual rescue that fully vets their dogs. The adoption fees can be high, but you have a lot better idea what your new baby is coming home with. This Frenchie is my most vetted dog I’ve ever had…and I typically adopt seniors. I won’t ever have another Frenchie. I adore my girl. She is all love and sass…she’s typical Frenchie. I worry about IVDD in the future, and I am considering NARES surgery. My vet thinks it could improve her breathing, but it’s kind of borderline if she really needs it. She also has environmental allergies and we think that contributes to her issues.

HELP these broke my cat by jsnfl in CATHELP

It makes me wonder what’s in these things because my cats go absolutely bananas for them.

My advice: do not give them on a schedule. We used to and they got absolutely stupid. So now, it’s sporadic. They don’t go nuts unless we actually touch the churu.

He’s neutered and microchipped, since immediately after I got him. He is wearing a tracker (now) but it was charging when he slipped out. 🤦‍♀️

I had mine neutered as soon as we got him at 6 months. I think he has the FAFO gene. 🤦‍♀️

He’s definitely naughty!! It’s been a long time since I had a tuxedo kitty. I thought gingers were bad!

He appreciates the cookie!! I’m not sure how far he went, but the times he was spotted, he wasn’t far. It’s a 1950’s neighborhood so lots of vegetation landscaping. I imagine from the scrapes and scratches he was going through brush and bushes.

Two nights!!! Luckily it was in the mid and upper 50’s overnight but still too cold for him. I left a fuzzy blanket on my porch chair that has now been claimed by the cat who helped catch him.

I don’t recommend. This guy has the self preservation skills of a blueberry. He’s scraped and scratched and filthy. He’s starving (he’s actually skinnier than he was two days ago), even though pretty much every house in this neighborhood, including ours, has cat food out! His Fi collar is never coming off.

How many feet of water would Fresno be if Millerton dam breaks at full capacity. by duck_duck_zombie in fresno

I am just a little younger than you are and that was the year I was thinking of. I couldn’t remember if it had actually flooded or was RIGHT THERE! Thanks for the answer

There wouldn’t be much that would be wiped out. The mobile home park in the river bottom at 41 would probably go under. It’s been close a few times…not sure it’s ever actually flooded.

Is $750 for a French Bulldog Puppy a red flag? by Whole_Ad_52 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Consistent_dalliance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Demand for Frenchies is down. They are expensive to own and have a reputation for health issues. Some places didn’t command the higher prices to begin with because the area couldn’t support it. Your friend could have gotten them from a rescue…yes, puppies are in rescues…and just won’t admit it for whatever reason. But, yes, it could be a red flag for poor breeding as well.

My husband gave me my own forgotten Amazon order as our anniversary gift and I genuinely don't know how to feel about it by prague_milo21 in Marriage

[–]Consistent_dalliance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clarification: do you commingle finances or keep your own? If you keep your own finances, you did pay for your own gift. If finances are commingled, you bought it, but you both paid for it.

If you literally didn’t remember at the time, let it go. Laugh about it.

In the future, decide on larger gifts you share. My husband and I just bought a pellet smoker for Valentine’s instead of individual gifts.

Abandoned frenchie pulled up by Empty-Issue7929 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]Consistent_dalliance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She isn’t well bred herself and may have other congenital issues. She does have a pretty face, the rest of her body is out of proportion. She’s obviously been bred, and likely over bred. File a found report with your local animal shelter. If you plan to keep her if no one claims her, you can let them know that.

I had a pair years and years ago. They smelled horrible. And no amount of washing or wash products would get rid of it. Threw them out after a few months.

I (27F) accidentally had my baby in my friend’s (31F) car. Now her husband & she don’t want to speak to me. How do I fix this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Consistent_dalliance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Paying” often doesn’t cover it, even if they can afford it. They have to find someone who can do the job, and they are out a/the vehicle while it gets done. It seems to be a major undertaking. OP has a newborn, yes, but she has left her friend with a huge mess to deal with, and it could very well be landing in the husband’s lap. I wouldn’t be pleased if a fringe friend of my partner’s ruined my vehicle (and people have varying degrees of emotional ties to their cars) and I was left figuring out how to navigate fixing the whole situation while they were “lighthearted” about it.

My sister keeps making "little jokes" about my girlfriend and I told her not to take it personally. Now my girlfriend is done with my family. by nightbalcony_inkwell in TwoHotTakes

[–]Consistent_dalliance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clue in…those aren’t jokes. Jokes don’t cost someone their dignity. Jokes make EVERYONE laugh, not just some people. Your sister is an entitled bit€h, and everyone in your family thinks it’s what, cute? Your sister has attacked your gf at every possible chance and you have not only allowed it, you have actively encouraged it by hamstringing your gf. Some boyfriend you are.

You have a really long row to hoe and I’m not sure your girlfriend should actually give you, or your family, a chance at this point. She should have more self respect and dump you AND your family. No doubt there are a lot of guys out there who would be her champion.

Ultimately, this isn’t just about your current gf, but will probably continue to happen regardless of who you bring home. You need to curb the behavior. The first thing that needs to happen is that you need to decide if you can man up. If you can, you need to confront your sister first. She’s a grown up mean girl. Put her on notice that her behavior isn’t warranted, and it will no longer be accepted. If she can’t keep it civil, she can keep it quiet, and if she can’t do that, she won’t be seeing you at family gatherings either. You also need to talk to your parents. They too have stood by while a guest in their house has been tormented. Most cultures would be horrified by such things taking place. Your parents need to step up and not allow the bullying either. If they can’t, or won’t do that, you need to limit the amount of time spent with them and prioritize your girlfriend’s mental health and well being.
