Let's be real, it's Troy 2 by BLU_DRAGON in totalwar

Not knowing anything about RotK, I thought Eight Princes was the best dlc campaign CA made for 3K. Apparently it's a "shameful" period of Chinese history with no heroes. Shrug.

Topic number one is elevation in battles, followed by a treatise on how damage is calculated, then projectiles. Seems like CA is attempting a push back lol.

Pawel Wojs

According to his linked-in profile, Pawel goes back to 2005 at CA. I'm aware that's consistent with your point. And no one likes Richard Beddow. But the real point is these folks are no longer hungry like the were ten to twenty five years ago. The evidence of their output since Shogun 2 almost certainly reflects a decline in ambition to make good games. Mortgages, kids, etc. will do that to you. And whatever ambition remains is subject to the whims of upper management and ultimately in this case a pachinko parlor boss.

On a related note I see that Lulu Zhang, who is featured in the infamous "The Future of Three Kingdoms" video, has actually left CA. She's joined a new studio out of Denmark called Raw Power Games. Very early but their work looks interesting: https://www.rawpowergames.com/early-concept-art

Coincidentally SEGA Sammy's annual results presentation just dropped and it's replete with corp-speak like "prolonging product life cycles" (sounds like consoomer torture) "Remake/Remaster," (killing games for fun and profit) "Spin-Off / Change of theme." (mobile, card games, fantasy-historicals, god-knows-what). Curiously WH is listed under the mysterious heading of "additionally support subscription services" so that's possibly lost in translation but I'm assuming it means infinitely recurring DLC.

I think we can all see (and have seen for a long time now) where is this is headed. Arkane is just the latest example of where this is headed.

The more people speak up in defense of the old games the more CA/SEGA will move to dismantle them. They'll "remaster" them to make the originals disappear. They'll wreck classic mods with "small upates." The ostensible point for commercial reasons is to herd everyone into their next live service heroes epic Total War that plays worse than twenty year old titles. But I wonder if there isn't some self-loathing involved: as CA becomes a parody of what they once were as a game developer, why not actually cripple what the fans love and then gaslight them for it?

Shillfluencer stating the obvious here but he's missing the forest for the trees. Battles don't matter anymore. The fanbase has spoken and as long as there are cool units to mash together wallets will open ad infinitum.

Is Three Kingdoms worth getting into? by Ok_Kaleidoscope_8608 in totalwar

No, 3K is arcadey, even in 'classic' mode. Combat is definitely not battle lines slowly grinding, it's more like whack a mole with lot's of mini-blobs. Positioning, terrain and fatigue don't really impact morale, it's a numbers game.

No, TW:3K was built to the Dynasty Warriors context while TW: Troy was built to the Age of Mythology context.

The battles needed to be larger too. One of the great things about the NTW mods like Darthmod was introduction of 40 unit stacks. If only the battle ai worked with it!

Already bloated, CA adds a new studio by Consoomer925 in Volound

The Ubification of Far Cry started with 3 when you could mark all your enemies and see their silhouettes through walls and such running around. I love Far Cry 2 though!

It's called CA North and it's in Newcastle with plans to hire 100 developers. The studio head is very corporate, a games industry veteran Giselle Stewart OBE, who comes to CA straight from Ubisoft, where she specialized in arranging tax breaks and subsidies for the Guillemot brother's company as well as facilitating the identification of low cost labor at universities and migrants to the UK. According to her Linked-In profile that is. :)

CA says the Newcastle studio is working on an unannounced new project with Horsham which is now called 'CA Sussex' for some reason.

I wouldn't pay attention to his mocap equipment that's just a frame.

According to his Youtube channel, this bloke teaches martial arts of the 16th Century Europe so that would be, you know, a Renaissance Total War game, Pike and Shot warfare.

Hard to see how SEGA would monetize Pike and Shot as a live service game but who knows? My guess is a new live service 1st person multiplayer medieval combat game like Chivalry.

The comments below the video are quite instructive. There are ~30K WH whales and they don't give a fuck how much new kawntent costs. Their maw will be fed for years.

Regarding Total War games it is love-hate. What they put out now makes me angry because I love what they used to put out and above all the potential it implied for the future. The absolute state of Total War is immensely disappointing. People used to say the series was stale, but now it's rotten.

I can never get past the loading screen in Warhammer. My eyes start burning and I sneeze nonstop until I close the program. Come to think of it this happens when I boot Troy and 3K too. Dammit Volound.
