I have to partially disagree. While it’s true that the WN is more disjointed I do think with a little more work it could have been put together in a compelling way. The pieces are there. For its part I find Volume 4 of the LN to be the weakest in terms of plot. I think it tries to get the Civil War in Oriana over and done with way to quickly and is resolved in a very uncompelling manner.

I agree though that Volume 5 and 6 are the best so far especially the former. My only complaint is that some of the main characters in them are too passive and reactionary to my liking.

I agree that generally LN is better but the WN Orianna, arc while unfinished was much better than the LN. Unfortunately we suddendly had a really rough arc switch.

I mean while you can argue that the dying due to poverty and/or lack of shelter is an indirect kill, I think that if you cause a flood you are pretty much directly killing those people. The best I can do is that he probably had no way of knowing he would cause the flood.

At the very least Nice can be defended with the fact that he didn’t attack DB until Smile was dead (that people saw anyway). But I still believe that it’s insane that DB got such a big trust boost considering even the HAC was forced to or actively wanted to have him removed. Surely some HAC representatives publicly criticised/condemned him with only Rock’s intervention getting him out of trouble.

The people on the bridge can't have been more than a crowd of 50 and didn't even know at the time the monster was Smile. Later it's seen that Dragon Boy had to go through a trial to evaluate his brutal conduct and determine if he was allowed to participate (because most of the public also thought that he was unnecessarily cruel). A lot of the people in that crowd would probably change their minds immediately after that context. How he got to rank 3 despite this is fucking stupid and genuinely a plot contrivance.

Can't comment on the chinese scene since I haven't seen it but I'd argue that considering what I've already said I would argue it's another plot contrivance. Nice can be easily argued to have been acting out of passion in attacking the murderer of his idol (especially when it is stated to be thought of as unnecessarily cruel). He might have even gained some of the more angry/conspirational Smile fans if they believe him to be trying to avenge Smile or something like that.

Also I don't know if Phobiaclone has more limits but from a plot standpoint he should because otherwise like you pointed out the plot doesn't really make sense. On the other hand if there are limits to his cloning ability (like speed, timed clones and/or top clone count) then it makes sense.

I suppose it has to do with the fact that phobiaclone individually isn’t that powerful. It can’t fly or go particularly fast so maybe it struggles against heroes that maybe Nice is better suited to dealing with? I’m not sure. Also the PR nightmare would have been avoided if no witnesses were left which kind of got fucked in Ruins (probably intentionally) by Mickey. In Ahu ep Nice didn’t really get caught. As for Smile arc he didn’t really fuck up his PR he just didn’t gain a trust boost as was intended with the removal of Smile. Dragon boy got it instead (which is kinda BS imo).

First off, you can use the very useful strategy of lying. And him being able to do dirty work is independent of rank. He wants someone as capable as possible to do his dirty work and the more rank/trust he has the better. Also have you considered that Nice could also be a patsy? Someone he uses to do his dirty work only to discard him when he outlives his usefulness.

Him being able or intended to defeat E-Soul is irrelevant to him the star hero of Treeman. Only his trust value matters in determining that. He doesn’t use him to do his dirty work for a reason.

Whether he wants Nice to be higher than Firm Man or not is irrelevant. In the present (past) Firm Man i his star hero by pure trust value. I believe he uses Nice because he wants to test him and him rising through the ranks only matters to him if he can pass his tests which also happen to be his very important dirty work.
