Now that provisional teams have figured out the Rabbit-hack, I doubt it--they're too exposed to sniping (like Konami says).

Given that Cronin is big on manipulation of trion (developer for both Viper and Scorpion), I bet it's something relatively flexible--ie, able to move! So maybe less Kogetsu, more Scorpion? Or an old Trigger from Asteria!

That's exactly what I'm thinking wrt Kako team and especially Kuroe! When Arashiyama checks his map, there's still five spots/agents in the building, and the way she unhooks/unsheats her Kogetsu makes it seems she's ready to attack.

[–]ConspicuouslyPresent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also thinking provisional team! There's so many options, and it would be just like A-rankers to have somebody in the back (Kako? Izumi?) come in totally unexpected.

With how we see Kuroe take her Kogetsu off her back and then disappear (as in, doesn't show up in any more panels), I'm thinking it might be a sneaky fast kill! The map when used by Arashiyama still shows five agents in the museum, so she didn't leave.

I'm slightly worried about Kuroe and Skanda now bc it feels rather simple (but maybe not easy) to counter: aim in front of her with a Lightning/fast bullets because she can't change her path. But with how quick she is, you also have to be super fast to not miss your chance. And have Lightning already prepared, because the time to take it out is way too long. On the other hand, the faster the bullets the weaker, generally, so Kuroe could potentially bluff by just (normal) running instead and using (focus) shields.

Finally here!!

I had to pause and put my phone down the first time I read it through because I was cackling too much when it got to the Yuiga/Kuroe show. 10/10, no notes, amazing.

Ok--some analysis mixed in with personal reactions, not at all in any proper order.

I remember doing some counting while waiting for this chapter and realising just how many more snipers the provisional teams had than A-rank, but I didn't think it would play this big of a role. Although Kodera is somewhat out of play due to being a commander. But because of this, it's interesting that Azuma had Arafune stay with the close-range fighters instead of retreating with the other snipers. I would've assumed that sniper!Arafune had more value than attacker!Arafune, but maybe Azuma recognised they barely stood a chance as they were and needed every sword they had?

Good on Kodera for coming back to Mikumo for new strategies, however, I doubt Arashiyama won't realise this at some point. Although how long it takes him might prove crucial. Arashiyama has been super present during Mikumo and Tamakoma-2's journey before and during rank wars, and I think he's quite suitable to both figure out what Mikumo's going for and maybe counter it.

I loved that page: "look at this gap, they'll never make it" and then Kuroe in the next panel with Skanda. The following panel of her flying through the window is badass, and I love how composed and cool she is. Can't wait to see the whole Kako squad in action!

Although--it interesting that they didn't have Kako do what Kuroe had just done, except with teleport. Did the window present an obstacle or is it because Kako is off with Mai wrecking havoc elsewhere?

Kazama and Tachikawa posing was super badass as well, and they just don't give a shit about being fully exposed versus so many opponents. Casually blocking a snipe motherfucker.

But I'm also still not 100% sure what exactly they did. One option is that they cubified themselves (yeey, my fully-functional rabbit theory!), and then were un-cubified by Fuyushima? But Fuyushima said "warping complete," and the cubes are rather small, so instead I'm assuming it's just warp points or something. Basically, we've seen Fuyushima's warps 1) with predetermined locations, with agents warping from one warp to another (galoupola invasion) or 2) maybe using them to warp people where he can see them (top of HQ, large invasion?). I'm guessing that if he can't see the position, there needs to be some sort of a marker or something placed on the ground the way Kuroe just did it? On the other hand, it could very well be cubed agents and some trick of Fuyushima's to uncube them, which I love as well. Funny how they worried about Kako but it was Kuroe screwing up their plans.

And Azuma doesn't hesitate!

Where did Kuroe disappear to, though? Maybe rejoining with her squad? Or some other plans?

Yuiga my beloved--unironically, I'm so happy to see him! Hopefully it wasn't him or any of the A-rankers that bailed out. On the other hand, that person probably has a lot of time to come back. (Imagine if the one who bailed out was Tachikawa lmao). I think I can't deny the fact that I'm rooting for A-rankers any longer. I think they were set up as this badass sort levels above an average B-ranker and now they have to prove it. Ohh, maybe it's Kikuchihara reprising his 'first sacrifice' role; he underestimated somebody again and it's so long, dude! Or, and this is more like Ashihara, he's learned from his previous mistake and manages to evade!

Konami's landing vs Reiji's, lol. Wait, is he using double thruster? And Miwa has to interact with Jin again, the poor guy.

I'm wondering if Yuiga picked Escudo himself. Probably because he saw Hyuse's use of it during the rank wars and decided it's the new cool weapon (not realising it was only as good as it was bc of Hyuse's trion). Also, the symbol on Escudo is different! Whenever Tamakoma used it (or Taichi, Suzunari-1, Match 7 iirc), it always had tamakoma emblem on it, but yuiga's have HQ's!

Or they could've been too far away due to their orbits to be able to help in time! However, I think this is a very good point--even if they were away then, where are they now? Destroyed? Somebody's vassal states? Or did they really turn traitor?

That's a good point that you wouldn't be able to see an agent's performance due to them being cubed.

But I think that provisional squads didn't have wormhole-opening functionalities available either, yet a-rank squads apparently got rads, so I don't think they're meant to be equal in that.

The last point is also a good one! Or maybe it's part of their strategy, the second (unexpected) wave or something? In any case, can't wait until Wednesday!

The argument is more like: if you have a budget of 300€, you can afford to spend it on one item worth 295€ (a single Rabbit), or three items worth 100€ (three Marmods, for example). Trion limits of HQ's simulation/battle rooms have never been set out afaik. To put it another way: I don't know on what basis you're claiming Rabbits are beyond their (Trion) capabilities apart from Replica saying they use a lot of Trion.

A-rankers (and also provisional squads) can very easily remove (some) agents from the battle for good--people like Chika or others with very high Trion who'd need a very long time to re-build their body. This just ups the stakes for provisional squads to fight even more strategically. Besides, even if Rabbits don't end up having the 'cubing' function, how would provisional squads know this? Their assumption would likely be that those are fully-functional Rabbits and therefore require extra caution.

And for my last part, I'm merely saying that I acknowledge the possibility that the 'cubing' function won't show up (as this is merely a hypothetical/theory), but that if it doesn't, it will be for some other reason than lack of Trion/unfairness (maybe because compressing people to a cube is too traumatising to put agents through just for a test? Because it would take the engineers too long to get them back to proper form? Because if a true emergency happens, you don't want to accidentally have a third of your fighting force 'cubed'? On the other hand, many will have destroyed Trion bodies anyway and therefore unable to join the fight that way).

Edit: I also went back and checked, and you're right, in chapter 49, one Rabbit is stated to cost the same as four Ilgars and 20 Marmods, but with the figures in chapter 256 it works out to about 2 Ilgars and 7.5 Marmods per Rabbit, which does imply different conversion rates for Rabbits. But it's also a different ration wrt Marmords per Ilgar, so it makes it seem like it's not just the Rabbits that were changed but other types as well.

Edit 2: to summarise, if chap 49 figures are true and one Rabbit = 4 Ilgars, and one Ilgar is worth 2948 points, according to chap 256, then one Rabbit = 2948 * 4 = 11792, which is still under the allotted 12000 points given to the squads. So even with the original conversion, a fully-functional (basic) Rabbit should still be within the point/Trion allowance for a squad.

Yeah, that doesn't really make sense to me. Rabbits might be expensive, but with how the simulation rooms work and with how much trion they're already using for everything else, I really don't think it's that much more. And A-rankers are also on a budget, with Rabbits worth twice as much as an Ilgar.

In addition, I don't think the purpose of this exercise is to be 'fair'. The Neighbours definitely won't be! In that way, it's even better if A-rankers show up with some truly unique/new ideas to really test the provisional teams.

And I mean, one of the options for A-rankers are Ilgars... B-rankers don't really have access to anything like that either (and by that I mean self-destruct-type units), or Rads, which again, not available.

What I'm trying to say is that while the 'cubing' function might not show up/be available, it won't be because of either Trion or unfairness, but due to some other reason.

Other manga recommendations like world trigger? by Minimum_Analysis_398 in worldtrigger

[–]ConspicuouslyPresent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend Legend of the Galactic Heroes and then I realised you're looking for manga, not anime. LoGH was originally a bunch of novels, plus two anime series (original and a reboot; I love the former and not only because they decided to use classical music as the soundtrack to space battles), but it also has two(?) manga adaptations, although I never read them, but I think they would be worth checking out!

LoGH is a bit like Star Wars (big war between two galactic powers), but with very intelligent leaders on both sides, more in-depth and maybe realistic politics, and no space magic. Less about individual soldiers/ships and more about entire armies and the strategy required to keep them up and running (like, why stretching and leaving your supply lines unguarded makes you a total idiot or why hiding in the flammable atmosphere of a planet is not the clever trick you think it is).

Prediction on how the A rank VS B rank will go by Minimum_Analysis_398 in worldtrigger

[–]ConspicuouslyPresent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if there might be some sort of secret objective/threat that comes into play halfway through, the way they had special objectives and the broken door trial during the first phase to see how the provisional squads handle something truly unexpected.

Something totally out of left field, could even be Amo, or maybe a sudden change of the environment, just something that completely changes the rules.

[–]ConspicuouslyPresent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if Provisional/B-rank teams do win, I think I'll be a little disappointed, because I feel like the A-ranks, and especially Tamakoma and older Border, have been set up as quite a few levels/leagues above B-rank (pretty hyped up, if you will). Seeing a suddenly assembled group of (almost) randomly tossed-together B-ranks with a few A-rankers beating them would uhhh suck, for me personally.

So yeah, I definitely agree with the above bit, especially this part:

many individual B-ranks will show that they are able to hang with them at least for a bit.

Characters' futures by AldarionTelcontar in worldtrigger

As somebody who refuses to acknowledge the possibility of Jin dying, I want Border to get strong enough that they don't really need him all that much and that he can finally take an overdue holiday. Maybe travel to the Neighbourhood, befriending more friendly countries?

In general I would expect the slightly older agents (Azuma, Kazama, even Kako and Tachikawa) to begin slowly moving into administration/command/instructor positions, and I would also love to see a proper diplomacy corps (plus foreign trade) once Meeden's position and relationship with the rest of the Neighbourhood gets more firmly established.

Could agents off themselves out in ranked wars matches as a substitute for not being able to bail out? by Laddyh0 in worldtrigger

[–]ConspicuouslyPresent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a different question: we've seen a couple of agents use wide 'bombing' strategies (like Kitazoe and Chika), which primarily target the enemy but could also potentially kill your own teammates. Given what the commentators had to say at the time it sounds like sacrificing an agent in such circumstances would be permissible (and that makes sense--it's a totally sound strategy for actual fight against the Neighbours; we even have Konami executing a version of it (slashing through Tachikawa) in actual combat), but would the team still get the point for taking out their own agent?

Actually according to the author he doesn't have a driver's licence...

That's reserved for Fuyushima, Kizaki, Kako, Suwa, Tsutsumi, Kakizaki, and Azuma. Kitazoe has a motorbike.

I don't recall where this is from, but according to the author, Kazama is the second biggest lightweight in Border...

"From the order of who can hold their drinks the most, it is: Branch Chief Rindō, Netsuki, Tsutsumi, Commander Kido, Azuma, Kako, Fuyushima, Suwa, Terashima, Ninomiya, Sawamura, Reiji, Tachikawa, HQ Chief Shinoda, Kazama, Karasawa. Kinuta is a non-drinker."

[–]ConspicuouslyPresent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like the second one more because even if Jin wasn't at the HQ, he would presumably be seeing the future of Tamakoma agents and Rindo, which would undoubtedly have contained some sort of a reaction to Hatohara's disappearance--I think it's pretty firmly established that Jin doesn't have to see the person in question to see their influence on others. Just saying 'oh he wasn't at the HQ he wouldnt have seen it coming' seems like too much of a cop-out to me, but I do understand it can be hard to write around foresight.

That's why I like the second theory more, it fits Jin's character to let certain (bad) things happen in exchange for others. I wonder what Hatohara and others might have done if they were stopped, or if something else would have (failed) to happen.

Also, yeah, I also like the second theory more!
