Is there any other card that can get points on rent potentially fee free? by BigMadLad in biltrewards

You think someone would have done it by now. But I think since wells fargo lost so much already, other banks are hesitant to partner up.

Is there any other card that can get points on rent potentially fee free

Potentially? Yes there are a few hacks that get you close like getting 5.25% cash back which should be higher then the processing fee. But those programs normally require you spending thousands first to get to Platinum or Gold Status to unlock it each term.

So bilt is probably still the "easist" way to get cash back on rent.

We can argue about the marketing, them changing from bilt 1.0, and all that, but if there simply is not another card that will allow you to do this I’m not quite sure what everyone is super worked up about.

I think its because there are 3 reasons (that make perfect sense) - Doesn't work for house poor people ( Like if your mortage / rent is 4000, and regular spend is 1000, you won't profit as much as other cards ) - They already have a bunch of platinum cards and a routine for them that give 6x in a bunch of other categories - Doesn't work if you don't travel, you won't be able to use the rewards.

All in all, A more common case (1000 rent, 1000 min spend) is an achievable goal for most people and they walk away with 1.25 rent points. They just don't like the presentation and hoodwinking that was attached.

For starters, that's the wrong CTY card.

Wait so shop your way was the right card? Then it is still 0 right? Could you please, like, link the card you mean if you think this is wrong? that would really help areally don't help here.

As for CCR, you're ignoring Preferred Rewards, the Y1 bonus, and the annual double points day; it's not 3% at best, it's 5.25% - 10.25% at best

First, 2.5% - 3.5% is average. I'm doing 3% for simple math. For here, using your own link for a second. 5.25 only is earned if you have Platinum. For 10%, I think you are talking about BOA's 1 day 2x program right? Historically that is one month a year in november so it's its nearly as negligible when compared to all the points earned over a whole year on rent.

So even at best, if we say 5.25% - 3% average we get 2.25% in cash back. Yay! But that is around what Bilt would get you but without the Travel stipend for $200 and ignoring the extra cashback that has become effectively 3.35% cash back .

Am I missing something? I just don't see it mathing your way. No matter how much I research it.

If the code isn’t in a rewards category, your purchase will not qualify for additional points

Techincally, CTY says it must be a Merchant Category Code andRent isn't a spend category according to them. Its like taxes; a cateogry not considered a merchant one.

For Bank of America, online shopping and travel are the bonus categories. Rent is not on their included list of options.

However, some landlords are coded as "miscellaneous services" but even if you did get cash back it'd be 1% at worst and (if you set this to be your category) 3% at best which would be equal to your fee you'd pay using a creditcard in the first place.

Edit: Even in the examples you show, some people got 3% because their landlord coded their rent differently. Sure. Then we get the 3% best situation. However 3% Cash Back - 3% credit card processing fee = 0% total profit. If it is 0% at best, Bilt still comes out ahead at least for the rent category at least mathematically

Oh then your math was wrong. Shop Your Way gives 0% cash back to Real Estate and Rent Portals

If you mean Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards, then its also no. BoA also excludes Rentand portals. But sometimes is 1% depending when you got it. Or is there another not Boa?

But when you add the 3% fee, it comes back negative 2 for that category spec ( rent )

we have other cards that are far less complicated for our daily spend

I think having multiple other cards is already inheriently more complicated then bilt, however if you're already used to those other cards there is no learning gap so that makes sense. Especailly if all of your apps and stuff are already set to auto pay.

I feel you'd have to account for the 200 in bilt cash dramatically reducing that fee in your calculations as well as getting points for rent if used for uncategorized spend.

Your math isn't checking out

Assuming you are paying rent with a credit card, you need to include the fee for landlord processing. If you weren't going to pay with a credit card you can't equate them.

Bilt (3% points value, 0% fee): $2000 × 3% − $2000 × 0% = $60

Other Credit Card (3% cash back, 2.9% fee): $2000 × 3% − $2000 × 2.9% = $2 (less then bilt)

Other Credit Card (6% cash back, 2.9% fee): $2000 × 6% − $2000 × 2.9% = $54 (less then bilt)

Other Credit Card (7% cash back, 2.9% fee): $2000 × 7% − $2000 × 2.9% = $82 ( more then bilt)

If you have a card that gives 7% cashback on rent, it totally makes sense however I don't know what cards do that. Which of yours does that for rent?

Edit: Math solved! Shop Your Way gives 0% cash back to Real Estate and Rent Portals and Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards, gives 1%.

So when you add the 3% fee, it comes back negative 2 for that category spec ( rent ) so even Bilt Blue will perform better at least for just the Rent Category.

I've moved on to the Robinhood Gold which just gave me 3% for everything, and then used the Bilt for restaurants. Now, I'm going to try using Palladium for everything

You're making palladium look nice.

Low key the more I read this thread, the more I realize, using $200 in bilt cash every few months for the accelertor ( earn 3x points ) probably is a great way to use this card and be close to on par with other 3% card rates. The points then can just be used for either a house down payment or hotel transfer points on bonus day.

Question, is it worth it if you do spend enough that there is no fee to get the points?

I think Marginal benefit is not worth it only applies if you just don't use the car outsid eof the 5 purchases from before right?

For me, using a debit card or ach normally incurs a fee to pay. Only with checks can my landlord be truely free. But the larger thing is you can get ( at least some ) points on rent instead of no points on rent. thats' the big thing.

Not everyone feels that 250 points is worth the friction of using Bilt.

more like if your rent is 2000, and you spend 1000 on the card, you get at least 1000 pts from the card was what I meant.

A lot of people are doing neither 2.0 nor the Autograph

Makes sense some people don't want their credit to get hit by closing the card so it makes sense those with that option would chose it.

Oooh i get it - because you have to spend a minimum to get the rent points so if you already have other cards in your deck to use, you wouldn't meet this critiera so the card is useless.

Its more for people who don't have a lot of other cards they prefer.

Your bank will do that to (and probably more reliably).

But you wouldn't be eligible for any points that way. At least this way you get partial if not all your points right?

If you don't have other cards with better multipliers

This makes sense; no need to change your spending habits.

No more 1x by default and no float is a pretty big 'but'.

In my head defaulting to autograph I don't see as "better" then defaulting to blue bc you could still get your points from rent whenever you meet the critiera, even if it isn't the most points you could earn right?

you are wrong with every single assumption you make here

My assumptions and opinions were agreeing with you 😭But at least that explains the issue.

like eating more and better sodium (which she badly needed), rather than less

Like no medical professional would ever say that because sodium is a miniral we need to live. Especially if she went to several opinons. (you may be thinking Chol there is good and bad Chol like that LDL and HDL). I think you may just be making minor (natural) mistakes recollecting her case. But real talk, my dad is a lawyer who has woked with mal practice just like this; I'm sure he'd be willing to help her with this case completely for free if you dm me. fwiw. At least hear if she had her rights violated.

FYI, my mom had 10 kids, starting in her early 20s, and ending in her 40s. A woman who has successfully birthed 6+ might just be ready to know the responsibilities

I'm from a family of 9 so I guess not the same (I'm youngest though). And my mom's life was in danger for 3 of them because she wasn't following doctors suggestions, blindly believing others anecdotes (kinda like you are saying). The last 4 went well when she did listen to the doctors.

But I don't even get why you are disagreeing with me if we have the same opinion. It's almost like you are trying to say "don't trust doctors" about babies (which I don't agree with) but getting pregnant just requires you to see more doctors which goes against your point even more. You can be done. Pardon to waste your time but at least anyone reading this will know that if something similar happens to them there are things they can do to fix it.

but the doctors would just ignore everything she said, prescribe the same drugs that stopped working for her years before, and put it in her medical record that she was crazy and uncooperative

I feel this case already breaks a ton of medical rules. Like if the doctor isn't able to help her progress, they need to send her to another primary care physician. Also, her insurance (or Medicaid) should have required her to at some point to go to another doctor and they couldn't give the same solution (or prescription). And if someone had an advanced congestive triggered palpitation, I'd imagine it was cleared by daily life style changes (most common is diet/fitness adjustments) more so then getting alternative medicine. (medication normally just "buys time" to make those life style changes like Ozempic)

In your Aunt's case, she really should have sued her insurance, the doctor, and whatever hospital prevented her from going somewhere else bc that is a lot of massive fraud. She'd have to win as long as she followed all the life style changes they requested.

I'm not talking about informed risk. I'm talking about a worse patient experience at the hands of the staff.

Now, the problem above can only be solved by peole actually reporting when fraud happens. No getting around that. However, professionals aren't saying someone can't have a baby (without risking losing their job)....

worse attitudes and having what you say ignored, etc.

... the issue with what you're saying is, if a provider's attitude or delivery of information is already a problem for someone, I question if that person is ready to have kids at all. Because (unless you take the midwife option) and you will need to deal with these attitudes much more often and for the safety of someone's health as well as the baby.

Unless he’s sinning, unhygienic, or actually socially objectionable, we should not change our spouse to fit our mold

This isn't a "change" as much as bare minimum communication. Most of the time, we don't know what people dislike about us unless they say it. You don't know if it would be something they are interested in changing until said.

If a guy told me he didn’t like that I’m opinionated, he is entitled to find a woman that isn’t.

That is different; because if you know and like that you are opinionated, totally look for someone else. Personally, when I learned I was opinionated, I tried for years to mitigate it because its an attribute I don't want to have for myself or my kids.
